Thought I'd post this on the forum to see if anyone has some good ideas what to do with 598 DVC points this year. We banked 298 last year and have 300 this year.

Wanted to use them for a cruise, but that window is now closed, as we just got off the Wonder. So, if you had that many points what vacation would you choose?

First, I would contact my good DISboard friend, vicki_c and see if her family wanted to go on a trip! :goodvibes

Well first I would plan a trip to use the 298 points you have if you can. Then I would bank the 300 other ones into next year to give you more time to think about it. Or plan a really nice trip this year for 598 points!

How about Adventures by Disney - those are very points-expensive trips - I would love to have enough points burning a hole in my pocket to do one of those trips.

Adventures by Disney is a great suggestion! We keep going back and forth what are we going to do, let's start planning it. Well, it's been that way for 3 months and it's still in the "holding" stage. LOL

Doubt we will use the 300 pts this year, so most likely will be banked. One thing we did last month was rent a 1 bedroom at AKL-Jambo and I won't rent anything else! LOL Why do I do that to myself? Everytime I say just stay were you are or it'll end up costing you more because you won't want to stay in a "normal" room. Well, low and behold that is sooooo true! Curse me! LMAO. But seriously, how nice are those 1 bedrooms?

If there is more than two people in your group, we love having a two bedroom where we don't have to have anyone sleeping in the living room. No couch to make up, others can come and go as they like to the kitchen, etc.

To me having real beds for everyone, not sofa beds, is the true luxury of DVC.

I was going to suggest a cruise but I see you wanted to go this year.

Adventures by Disney, RCI?

You can always rent them out or invite a family to go with you guys - relative or a good friend.

I usually have no trouble spending that number of points! Actually, since I have almost no points left in my March '11 use year, I could use them to try for two RCI exchanges to Hawaii!:thumbsup2

First of all, I wish I had your problem!! I guess I probably would try my best to get a Beach Cottage at Vero and invite all my family and friends! I would still probably have a hard time coming up with 12 people though. I would guess that whatever decision you make, you will have fun! Enjoy!

I think that I would just use the 298 banked points this year at WDW, HH, and/or Vero. Then bank your 2011 points into 2012. If your heart is set on a cruise, call right away and see what is open for 2012 and book it. If money is not an issue, you might even consider a trip to DL and Hawaii on your 598 points. You could stay at GCV in DL and then fly on to Hawaii to stay at the new resort there. That sounds like a great trip! ABD would be great. But you will probably only be able to afford to pay for one person on points. Then you still have to pay cash for everyone else and also pay for the flights. If you are thinking Europe, that can get pretty expensive. It all depends on how much cash you have for the trip.

I would use 300-350 for a trip, maybe nicer view or bigger room than I normally get or an extra day or two. Then probably bank most of the remaining. I would keep doing that so I could extend my trips for a while.

I would keep this up until I deceided on a bigger trip.

take some friends who couldnt afford to go otherwise. Create a lasting memory for them.

I saw this on the way to work today and had a quick decussion with my partner about using the points for a 2012 cruise! Now, I don't know if DVC is allowing the pts to be converted yet or not, but that would be a great idea!

We live in CA, so going to DLR isn't a big deal as far as vacation goes. Thinking about maybe using RCI and heading somewhere else. Need to look into that some more. Would like to go to Maine.

Used RCI in September to Hawaii for a week, so looking at Aulani in 2012.

LOL...thought about potentially selling some of our pts, but that didn't go over to well. :lmao:

Reason we have so many extra is we've been banking with the intent to use them on a cruise early this year, but then when we decided to go DVC wouldn't convert them to DCL.

:)

You should try out a one, or even two, bedroom at OKW. Talk about awesome (and huge). In fact, you could have quite a long, 2 bedroom OKW stay, with that many points! :upsidedow

You live in CA?

Go book yourself a 1 week Ocean View room at Aulani. 322 points if you go in September (and the 7 month window is open right now for September).

We have 240 banked that came with our contract that we just bought. Our plan and hope is 2 studios at VGC in October. This will likely be the only time we have the points to try to take my BIL and his family :)

If a cruise is off the table because of availability, I should report that we just succesfully booked an Oct trip on the Dream last week on points. They seemed to have plenty of balcony staterooms left. Why not do back to back?

The RCI resort in Maine is in a nice area. We were in the area (although not at that particular resort) last August.

We are going to a wedding this summer. They are both teachers. If I had that many points floating around I would give them a disney honeymoon. Either that or plan your next trip in a grand villa or maybe a 2 bedroom MK view at BLT. Trade into RCI. I would love to stay at The Sagamore on Lake George. Or book a trip to Aulani.

My husband and I have 500 points every year and it's pretty hard to get rid of them.

This year we gave a chunk of last year's banked points to my daughter in law's family for a grand gathering. We have booked a 2 bedroom for ourselves and will take our middle son and his wife/son. We have also booked another studio for youngest son.

I still have 37 points from 2010 left so now I'm going to try to upgrade at my 7 month window to a higher points studio for youngest son.

I will bank the rest and have this same problem next year. :rotfl:
