We were able to book these rooms for our Feb 06 cruise. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if these rooms have steamer trunks or not. As far as I know these rooms are not connected to other rooms right?

Believe it or not, I am on the phone with DCL asking that very question!!!

I will post once I get a response.

The only SPRs that do not have steamer trunks are 5020 and 5520. The other four SPRs have them.

The only SPRs that do not have internal connecting doors are 5020 and 5520. The other four SPRs have them.

Thanks Horace, and maminnie. What is the reason that there isn't a steamer trunk? I am sure that I will find a way to manage, just curious as to the reasoning.

If you look at the deck plan, you'll see that most staterooms have one wall that jogs in and out to create a niche for the steamer trunk. But there are some staterooms, including 5020 and 5520, that are up against a straight bulkhead wall, so there's no niche for the steamer trunk. If the steamer trunk were placed against the straight wall, there wouldn't be enough room to open the steamer trunk door or to walk by.

The above does not apply to categories 1, 2, 3, and 4.

I booked these same two cabins for 1/28/06. I am so excited to get them!! It looked like these two cabins had the least obstructed view of the six sph's. I didn't know about the steamer trunk, but since it's our first time in a category 10 after once in an 11 and once in a 12, I guess we won't know what we are missing by not having a steamer trunk.

We were in 5020 for the 7/31 Western cruise. What a fantastic room. Very little obstruction. We were in a cat.11 on the first cruise and this cabin seemed so much bigger with the port hole. Plenty of storage for 3 of us with some left over.

Enjoy your cruise.

Also, my understanding is 5020 and 5520 are not just directly across the hall from each other if that is what you were thinking. It is my understanding that across the hall is room steward work rooms. You actually have to go down the hallway around the elevators and back down the other hallway to get to from one of these rooms to the other.

YOu didn't mention how many are in your family. We had 5520 last year with four of us. I really missed having the trunk for clothing storage and had to use some of the drawers in the desk for clothes. If there are only 2 or 3 in your group and you don't pack as much as we did, you'll be fine.

There are four in my cabin, however I now know how much less I need to pack. My parents are in the other room, and we are fine not being directly across from each other.

perdidobay - We are staying in 5020 on our next cruise :cheer2: When staying in that room, did you have any problems with the lights being on outside your porthole? Just wondering if the curtains are heavy enough to block out most of the light.

Thanks for sharing your photos!

perdidobay-

Thanks for sharing the photos. We'll be in 5020 on our first ever cruise.

Hi: Just back from the 9/18 Magic. We were in 5520. Loved the room and location. There are no staterooms across from 5520. It's the third stateroom around the corner from the elevators. The light from outside the porthole was not bothersome to us. It was nice that the room was not pitch dark. I wondered whether we'd have a problem finding storage as there was no steamer trunk. No problem with us though (just DH and I). Efren was our host. Very quiet and efficient.

Hi - first time cruiser here
we have a hold on 5520
there are 4 of us (me-dh-dd(17)ds(13)
from those who have had this room
what are the sleeping arrangements - I couldn't tell by the pics
Thanks!
Lil

Makin' the final decision this weekend and just think my vacation will only be 18 mos away....:cheer2:

Lil - There is a large queen size bed, that can also be split into two twin beds by your stateroom host if desired. There is also a sofa that turns into a bed and a pull-down bunk above the sofa-bed. The sofa is made and bunk pulled down each evening while you are at dinner.

Julie, we had no problems with the lights outside with the curtains closed:D

Lil, you will have 2 single beds that can be put together to make a double bed and a sofa that converts to a bed, and a bed that folds down from the ceiling. I slept on the sofa bed and had no problems sleeping. Hope this info helps.
If you scroll down thru the thread that I posted, there are more photos that show the beds in a later post...

Julie, we must have posted at the same time:D !

Thanks so much for explaining the sleeping logisitics of the room - I had read about the pull downs from the ceiling - but just couldn't picture it!!

Almost ready to book - waiting for dh to come home - I took off today and have been online all morning!!!:p

We just got back from a cruise on the Wonder in 5520 and loved it. We brought a small clip to keep the curtains closed over the porthole and to keep the curtain closed between the queen bed and the space with the sofa and pull-down bed.

There were three of us, and we had plenty of storage room with room to spare. Our closet wasn't even half full, and we never even used the over-the-door shoe holder we brought. This was for a 4-day cruise (which turned into a 3-day due to hurricane!), so you might need a little more space for clothing on a 7-day cruise.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
