I'm planning another solo trip for February -- maybe March. Last year I had reservations at 50's Prime Time Cafe which I had to cancel because my son joined me for a few days, and that was the night he was leaving.

The following day I went back to Prime Time Cafe to see if I could eat without a reservation and it was packed. It made me wonder if I would feel self-conscious there, alone, taking up a table designed for 2+, and denying a family a spot. (I would want to have dinner there.)

My husband, kids, and I went there quite a while ago so I don't really remember the layout inside. My question to you soloists is, how solo friendly is it? As I recall (hazily) it was tight quarters inside, so I'm wondering if it's not such a solo friendly place. I've eaten at many, many restaurants at WDW by myself, but I'm wondering about Prime Time.

Thoughts?

I've heard of many solo diners eating at the bar at 50's. Not sure of the interaction with the waiters but the food is to die for! Make sure you get the PB&J shake it so good! If you are on the dining plan you may get it as your drink and get dessert on top of it. They had to roll us out of there my last trip!:goodvibes

I've thought about the bar. Since I'm in my 50's (the prime of my life!) I didn't know if I'd feel more self-conscious sitting at the bar or in the actual restaurant.

The bar staff are great friends. Tonight was David and Alena. Had a great time. Headed to HOB at DTD for some music and drinks. . .Aloha

I have eaten here by myself and it was the most enjoyable experience I had solo dining on that trip. My "cousin" was awesome, even though I couldn't finish my math homework. I also helped people at the tables around me with their homework. I wouldn't worry about taking up a table. I was seated at a table for 2, so I didn't feel like I was taking space away from a family.

My wife and I sat at the bar once it was 45 min. wait or sit at the bar. Service is always great your server is always there in front of you. We chatted up with someone going single but we always felt like we were just a couple having dinner. I've traveled for business on several occasions and I know the feeling eating alone. Good luck

Hooray just the kind of answers I was looking for. It's been so long since I was there that I really wanted to go back, but I was starting to feel guilty taking up a table for lil ole me. You've convinced me that I can do it. Thanks!

I was there solo a few years ago and the server (my Cousin) went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. He introduced me to his other cousins at the tables next to mine and proceeded to pass around his photo album. It was a great time and I never felt out of place sitting at my own table. Go and have a great time!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I don't remember the photo album schtick (sp?). Fun!

It's funny-that's what I used to wonder, but I just ate there solo for the second time on Thursday. My server didn't really do any "antics", but that was just with me-the next table was a family, and he really teased them. However, he just spoke to me as a normal person. Very nice, though, and after my first solo lunch there, I wanted to kick myself for hesitating so long to eat there.

Thanks everyone .... for the sit at the bar tip. Only ate there on the first trip years ago and don't remember or didn't see the bar. Got in trouble because I couldn't finish my awesome meatloaf dinner!!!

I don't need any antics, either. I just want to absorb the atmosphere, eat, people watch, and go to a restaurant I haven't been to recently. People have said the servers are good about "reading" customers and ribbing those who seem to want it and leaving alone those who don't.

Glad you enjoyed your experience.

That's exactly what happened. At the end of the meal, after I said "Tell Grandma [I think that's who it is] that I loved her pot pie", the server was a little more "in character". But he was always friendly.

Okie, dokie. I made ADRs for 50's Prime Time Cafe. You all convinced me that it is a 'can do' restaurant.

My trip's not until February so I won't promise to give a report when I get back, because I hate reading old posts where someone's promised to do that with no followup, but I'll TRY to report back. Of course, by then this thread will be on page 37 and no one will care, but it's the thought that counts. :upsidedow
