We are going to WDW in January and I'm trying to finalize our ADRs before tomorrow morning. My kids haven't been to either 50's or SciFi. They are DS12, DD9, DS7, DD3. Which would you pick?? Thanks!!

depends on it they are hearty eaters or not. 50s has a pretty heavy menu, I have to order appetizers there because everything is just too much for me. It's a cute place and if you get the right CM can be fun if you enjoy a lot interaction (we don't). Sci-fi has decent, not great but not bad food. I hear the milkshakes are great but never tried one. I think the cars only sit 2 per seat so you would have to have to be split up unless you can get the 6 top table in the back. The movie clips are fun. Personally, I'd do Sci-fi but just because of how heavy the food is at 50s because I'm not a big fan of comfort food and don't need the interaction.

If you haven't been to either, I would say do Sci-Fi. I love 50's, but the experience is very dependent on the waiter or waitress you get. Sci-Fi is pretty much the same every time (It is a fun, unique experience - I'm just saying if you had been to Sci-Fi before I would recommend 50's).

My children are 10 and 8 and Sci-Fi is the one restaurant at Disney World that they definitely don't want to skip. They love the cars, the movies and the milkshakes so if you were asking them it would be Sci-Fi all the way!

My pick would be for 50's. The dark environment of Sci-fy might scare your littlest one.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond! My littlest doesn't get scared easily so I'm not worried about that. I think I'm going to pick SciFi. I was already leaning that way, and all your responses helped make that decision. Thanks again!!

They are both fun places for kids.
*Sci-Fi - Very unique & fun dining experience. Everyone should eat there at least once. This place is ALL about the atmosphere in my opinion. The food is fine (not great). All in all, it's worth it.
*50's Prime Time Cafe - As far as food goes, this place has the better food (in my opinion). We eat there on every visit. Love the fried chicken dinner (very good).
Sci-Fi has better atmosphere and 50's Prime Time has better food. If you put experience above food, I would choose The Sci-Fi, otherwise I would go to 50's Prime Time.

For atmosphere, Sci-Fi

For food - '50s

Sci-Fi is the worst food I've had at Disney.

I have to sort of agree, I wouldn't say Sci-Fi was the worst, but it definitely wasn't that great. For atmosphere though, it's fun. We liked 50's so much better and we had an excellent server who did a great job as "the mom". We had the sampler which included Fried Chicken, meatloaf and pot roast and enjoyed it. The do give you a lot of food too. Another poster said it was "heavy" and if that meant too much, I would have to agree! It was tasty though!

Sci Fi is a fantastic place to go when you want AC, darkness, and a chance to not engage with your family for a meal (I say that as a positive).

On my upcoming trip we've booked at 50's Prime Time. It has almost become a must do for us, and have enjoyed it every time. I've done Sci-Fi once. It was neat... once. I agree with most of the folk above, that the atmosphere is neat, but the food wasn't that good. We keep going back to 50's Prime Time for the food and the fun.

For us we picked Sci-Fi because of the menu. We just aren't into meatloaf, fried chicken, and other things on the menu. It ends up we had a GREAT steak with one of the best milkshakes. We did have to scarf down our food and take turns with my son outside because he just wanted to climb all over the cars like the one outside the restaurant. The movies add to a unique atmosphere but they do play over and over. The candy bar dessert was really yummy too.
