$500 Gift Card for only $395?

Sorry guys...I've been away for awhile so this topic *might* have already been recently beaten to death but...

Does anyone know anything about a giftcard DW is selling that holds $500 on it for the cost of only $395? Can it be purchased by anyone & if so, how? Can it be used for tips in restaurants?

Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks!

It's a PIN code that is being sent by email. When people have a trip coming up soon some are being sent the email offering the merchandise card.

But it's not for food (other than food merchandise at giftshops, it seems) so I doubt it could be used for tips.

Anyone else have any additional info on this? Have YOU received one? How did you get the code...mail, email, etc? What are the conditions on the card or restrictions? Does it really say that it can't be used for restaurants? Just trying to figure out if it's at all worth it.

We bought one. It came in an e-mail from Disney Destinations a week ago for our trip next week-- so it came about two weeks before our scheduled trip. It had a pin code with it. There are a lot of exclusions. We won't actually get to use it until next week (when we are in WDW) so this info is from the CM who I talked to on the phone when purchasing the card. The CM that I talked to said that it had to be a merchandise store, on WDW property, owned by Disney. Some of the stores in the Epcot countries are not owned by Disney and several stores in DTD are not owned by Disney. It can't be used for food or lodging. The only foods you can buy are pre-packaged foods at merchandise stores. I have also read of someone else who has gotten pastries on Main Street--I think.
I asked if it could be used at DL, Disney Stores, or at the outlet stores in Orlando. The answer to all three were no.

Just to add, unless they have changed it from last winter it doesn't expire. We got one for our Dec. trip and used most of it and will use the rest in October. It was sent by email then as well.

This is still true of the one that we purchased. We got the $1000 card for $695. It should last us several trips as it is just my husband and I.
Just to add--The card is not sent in the mail. It will be waiting on us when we get to WL. This is one of the things that I was worried about before buying. I was afraid that they were going to send it in the mail and we are leaving a couple of days before they actually expect us at WL. I was afraid it wouldn't get to us in time--but I didn't need to worry about that.

I am trying to decide if we would actually spend $500 on items not including food and tips - that is a lot of merchandise!!

I do kind of hope we get the PIN, that is kind of neat. I guess if you imagine that you will spend $395 then you just get the remaining $105 for free - so it is worth it, but would I spend $395??

For just DH and I, I can't see us spending $500 in merchandise. It would be an entirely different story if we had kids.

I might think about it differently if it did include tours and/or was good at some of the stores in WS - those stores are my favorite! But I think we spent about $100 at the non-WS stores on our last trip.

We're going in August, but after that I'm not too sure when we're going so I'd also be afraid that we would lose it before our next trip.

Reading the exclusions make it sound like you CAN use it for Photopass purchases. That may make it worth it for us. If you can use it for MNSSHP I would be sold- but I am betting that is excluded as it isn't "merchandise." I hope I get the PIN so I have to decide!

For those that got the PIN, what resort are you staying at? Also, the information posted about the exclusions doesn't list Disneyland. If we got this I doubt we'd spend $500 at Disney World, but if we could also use it when we go to DL in October, it would be worth it.

I got all excited when I saw this thread and was hoping I could possibly get one of these emails. But when I read what was posted from the actual email I'm not so sure since they say it won't be replaced if lost or stolen. I've never lost a card or had one stolen (knock on wood). But I always like to know the protection is there. I didn't post this to scare anyone or dampen the excitement anyone had but to let you know in case anyone else worries like I do about that sort of thing.

But dang, that is one good deal! We have decided to take $1,000 in spending money this year so this would be awesome for us.

Check the link posted from the email to make sure the art store you want is included. When I read it I know at least one art store isn't included and I'm wondering which store that is and if it is the store that has something I wanted.

I really want one of these deals, but I've seen a few things that make me think it might not work for us.
