50 Shades of Grey

If it were years ago, I would say Richard Geer.

I was totally into all 3 books.

I know people slam the books for the subject matter; but the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a much harder subject for me. At least in this, it wasn't rape.

Richard Gere years ago would have been perfect, not i'm thinking Chris Hemsworth, something about him

I think an unknown to play Ana, it would just fit.

I've only read the first book, am about to buy the next two.

Bad writing? Who cares, if it makes people pick up a book it can't be all bad...

So it's ok for you to read, but not your mother or sister. That doesn't seem very fair.

Not at all, they can read it if they want. But I think we all would have a somewhat creeped out visceral reaction to our mothers reading hardcore BDSM erotica.

I wouldn't read it because I don't think it is up to my literary standards and not my type of book. I mean, it literally was Twilight fanfiction before it was published in it's current form. But that is besides the point.

I am reading my daughters books...she is coming to pick up one and two and I get to read three...so what..I am old..she just turned 40...
Mothers are old ..not OLD OLD...just old..:confused3

LOL, that's because we all have the idea that our parents are some sort of "nonsexual" beings. Although if they were, they wouldn't be parents.

When my widower father was about 75, he went on a cruise to alaska with a lady friend. for some reason when I asked how the vacation was, he felt the need to fill me in on all the romantic "interludes" him and his friend had. Just what I wanted to imagine. 75 year olds hanky pankying on the deck of a cruise ship.

It took loads of alcohol to erase that image from my brain.

I downloaded a sample for my e-reader and gave the first chapter a whirl. It wasn't for me. However, I have been thoroughly enjoying the chapter recaps (with commentary that fans of the book probably wouldn't like) from a blogger I sometimes read.

I deem it "Fifty Shades of Eh?" . I got the books, expecting it to be about kinky sex/relationships. What it is? A romance novel. Bleech and boring!

I just passed the first book on to my 35 year old daughter.

Which 50 shades definitely isn't. Only a teensy bit racier than Harlequin novels I used to sneak of my mom's when I was a kid.

That said, I'd absolutely go to see the movie if the Alexander Skarsgard casting rumors are true.

Yes! If you've ever watched True Blood, Eric behaves exactly like I imagine Grey to. That is who I am picturing. Emmy Rossum would be a great Ana.

Started the book yesterday and am half way through. Had to see what the hype was about. I'm finding it hard to stop reading.

All three done after my mother couldn't stop talking about it. OK, so it was for me, read it for a plot, read it to get more of the 'story'. Although I was intrigued it wasn't the sex that did that, that got monotonous. I was hungry for more story.

What to read next? What did you read that captivated you more? :)

The first person that came to mind when Christian Grey was described in the book was Ryan Serhant from Million Dollar Listing NY. He's in his 20's and has grey hair. Now I can't stop picturing him as Mr. Grey..

I can't decide if I want to read this. I read the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Claiming_of_Sleeping_Beauty) when I was around 20, so I doubt I'd find anything shocking or interesting about this. I am curious about all of the hype, though.

Funny.. I was at Target today and they had the Beauty series on display right underneath the 50 shades books. I read them also when I was in my 20's. As for as 50 goes i read the first 2 and didn't want to waste another 10$ on the third. As my BFF says I'm a "book snob" they are horribly written and the inner goddess thing drove me nuts

Of course 50 Shades is great, how else do you sell that many copies. I just wasn't too thrilled on the writing style. That is why I enjoyed Laura Meets Jeffrey by Jeffrey Michelon better. He actually writes like writer and it is non-fiction which made it more exciting for me.

Just because something sells a lot of copies doesn't mean it's great, it means it's popular. Big difference.

Sorry to drag this old thread up but I am finally reading these and just into the third book now, while its not great literature I think its entertaining, I love the character development and the plots but I just cant stand all the lovey dovey that book two turned into. lol I havent finished book three (hope to by tonight possibly) but like a PP I cant imagine making this a movie without it being X ....

I heard about it on the radio and decided I might *try* to read it. I didn't even get halfway through the first book. It disgusted me and just plain gave me the creeps...:confused3 I don't see how people like it. :rotfl2: But that's just me I guess! It ended up going in the trash...:duck: And I love my books...never get rid of them...

I recently read fifty shades and loved it - call it my guilty pleasure during nap time :) am reading School of S&M by Damon Close at the moment - def buy this book if you liked fifty shades, it's got more of an edge and the writing is better :wave2:

I completely agree! While reading the book, I was thinking, "Seriously? This woman is going to let him do that to her, making her cry like this? What a jerk he is!"

Not quite sure what the fuss is about. Grey is a control freak jerk with serious issues. Anastasia is a weak girl who, I feel, is being abused by the first man she is intimate with.

It's just weird to me :confused3
