5-second rule doesn't apply at WDW

Karibeth19, that is so funny! I'm sure not funny at the time, but glad she was ok. It's amazing what kids have eaten and licked without having serious problems.

RE: Dropped hot dogs

Imagine if some stranger knocked the ice cream cone or hot dog out a child's mouth and the child's parents went after the stranger to do some justice. It's so much better to be able to go back to the counter and get a new hot dog and let Disney Security worry about the miscreant.<small>

:sunny: I didn't know you could get another hot dog or what ever, if you dropped one. That's nice to know.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

In our home, the five second rule has always just been a joke. Someone will say it and we'll laugh, but never follow through. I have two very healthy grown sons (18 and 20) and we never intentionally let them eat something that had fallen on the floor. They attempted to eat their share of things as toddlers, (dog and cat food out of friend's pets bowls for example), but I would never pick up something they dropped and give it back to them. It's just not worth the risk. Kids are going to eat their share of dirt, sand, bugs etc on their own. We don't need to enable them.

To me, we're overthinking this. Common sense says, the ground is dirty. Yes, so are door knobs, bathrooms, money, remotes, etc, but I dont' eat off of those either.

You have one of those kinds of kids too? Everything goes in my DD's mouth, or her mouth goes on it. It makes me crazy. I too am holding she'll outgrow it and it seems to be fading now that she's 5. Maybe that's why I don't worry about dropped food! My DD gets her yucky germs elsewhere.

LOL! My DD, 5, was licking the rail at the Land ride at Epcot. I look down at her to see her run her tongue across the rail! Ack! She said this is cold! I wanted to squirt some antibacterial hand stuff into her mouth! I think I might carry a small bottle of listerine after that!
