When purchasing the incentive of $5 off points is offered. Is there a time limit from when you take a tour or is this just for anyone who wants to buy in? Is there any incentive offer to buy within a certain amount of time after a visit?

Some people have reported that following a tour they were told that the $5 discount is only good for 3 days (72 hours). In all reported instances, DVC has stood by this timeline and will no longer offer the discount if you agree to purchase after the deadline.

For contact made by mail, there is typically no deadline placed on the $5 discount. As long as the promotion is being offered (which they may or may not tell you when it is scheduled to end), you can still get it. I have heard rumors (unconfirmed) that they may be ending the promotion on 1/31/04.

There are no other incentives being offered now, and there also is not any room for negotiation. You cannot individually negotiate a better price than that being offered.

When we bought last Feb we were able to get the $10 magical beginnings even though we toured in August. I told him our purchase of the BCV was contingent(sp?) on the discount. He went and spoke with a manager and it was okayed. You may just want to tell them that you will only by with the discount, if your 72 hrs are up, and see how they respond. We were very polite about it and I think that makes a difference.:jester:

I think that the $5 SSR promotion is a little bit different of an animal than Magical Beginnings. Under the MB program, a year's worth of points are being returned to DVC in exchange for a net discount on the purchase price. In this scenario, DVC is receiving a benefit in the form of your first year's points, which they can then use to rent units at the Rack Rates for the resort.

With the SSR promotion, we're talking about a flat discount off of the purchase price. No points are changing hands.

There have been a number of reports in recent months of people taking the same stance: I will only buy if you give me the discount. In every case I've read about, DVC stood firm on their decisions.

I'm not saying that it has never happened, but I certainly would not recommend that someone leave a DVC tour with the mistaken impression that they will be able to successfully reclaim the discount a week or a month later with a little arm twisting.

Thanks everyone. We have gotten the discount and our deposit is in but I was just wondering if they told us there was a time limit and there really wasn't.
