5 months since getting on the waitlist for BWV...*UPDATE*

...and still nothing.

We've got 5 nights at OKW and 2 nights at BWV. We DO NOT want to change from one to the other (we HATE switching resorts, and will already be spending the first 3 nights of our vacation at Portofino Bay), but prefer BWV.

I keep telling DH that we should just go with 7 nights at OKW this time, and next year book BWV at 11 months (we purchased a resale at 9 1/2 months...hence, this issue).

Then he suggested we do this: Book the last two nights at OKW (assuming we can get it), but still keep those same two nights for now at BWV and stay on the waitlist for the first 5 nights for BWV.

Is that doable?? How long could we do that for, if at all? When would one of the reservations have to be canceled by?? I figure at some point, we'd want to try OKW anyway...it does look lovely, but we bought a BWV resale because we always stayed at the BC and love the location, and were really looking forward to our first stay being at BWV this year.

*sigh*...the dilemmas of DVC ownership.

Just read PamOKW's post in another thread about canceling at least 30 (31?) days in advance. Does that answer my question?? At 31 days, if I don't have the first 5 days at BWV, cancel the last two, so I'll have 7 days at OKW...or if I do get those 5 days at BWV, cancel the last two at OKW, so I'll have 7 days at BWV. Yes????

One thing that concerns me...that I asked for a day-to-day waitlist. That might screw things up if I only get a day or two at BWV in the middle of those first 5 days. I honestly thought that once the 7 month window came, a whole bunch of BWV people would book that lovely new VWL (please, please, please) and open up some 2-BRs at BWV; but that was in April.

This is giving me a headache.

Hi MaryAnn! Well, you answered a question I was going to ask you....sounds like you are on the wait list for any of the days rather than having "all of the days". Weird that nothing has come up and I don't blame you for getting a little nervous. At the 30 day mark you have to let MS know whether you want to continue to stay on the wait list.

To avoid the possibility of having to move, you might be right to book the whole trip at OKW (if it's still available) and then hang in there with the wait list. You can do this with no problem if you have enough points to cover both reservations. However, keep your banking deadlines in mind if those dates are going to come up prior to your trip. You'll also need to make a decision on your double booked rooms at the 31 day point so that those points won't go into a holding account.

It's like fitting together the pieces of a jigsaw. I sure hope it works out for you to get BWV. (Are you trying for standard view only?)

Actually, we had wanted preferred view (this is more important to DH...he likes to treat himself good...I'm just along for the ride ) but could only get standard view for those two days. I was surprised...thought preferred would be available and that standard would be booked, if anything; those two available days at BWV are Friday and Saturday...I assume it's because of people booking Sunday through Thursday and saving the points.

Our waitlist instructions are that we will take preferred or standard...whatever comes up.

Actually, I have to take a look at the points issue. I know we had a bunch banked since the resale purchase, but I kind of lost track in my head about where that stands.

Our use year is June, so by the end of November is our deadline to bank all our points, and the end of February to bank half, so that's no problem at all.

Well being a newbie to DVC I'm not sure what I'm going to suggest makes sense, or can even be done, but here goes..... Why don't you just change your reservation to OKW for the entire stay and then waitlist the entire stay at BWV? This way you are in one place the whole time, and if BWV becomes available, you'll get it.

Sounds like you've done all that you can do! If you've got the points I'd go ahead and book the whole thing at OKW and then give BWV some more time to come through on the wait list. At 31 days out you can make a final decision whether to continue to wait for BWV or settle on OKW.

November seems to be tight at BWV. I called this morning to change our ressies from a 1 brm to 2 brm so my parents can come along. Nothing was available, not even a studio. That is Thanksgiving week though.

Dear Maryann, this is the other Marianne, as you know we were waitisted for BWV also as I had booked the 2nd-5th with my 11 month window at BWV...in the meantime we added a DC the week before 11/24-12/1 and then we needed the 1st of Dec as wel after being on the wait list for 5 months also we cancelled and booked AKL for the 1st of Dec and then going to BWV 12/2-12/5..we are very happy with our decision as we have been wanting to try the AKL and got a great AP rate with a savannah view....I have used the waitlist and always got what I wanted but couldn't take the pressure of not knowing where we would be the night of the 1st...my advice to you is to book OKW ASAP and go on the waitlist for BWV...THERE IS A CHANCE YOU WILL GET IT BUT TRY TO GET ALL THE DATES YOU WANT TO STAY IN dw AS YOU MIGHT END UP HAVING TO CUT YOUR VACATION SHORT..I hope you have a great time wherever you wind up...OKW is just lovely but I know you love BWV as much as I do so if you don't get it this year (which I hope you do) you have the next 40 or so years to go...Have fun Marianne Please let us know what you decide to do and if you ever get what you wanted with the waitlist

We got all 7 nights at the BWV!!!
(I'm giddy! )

We originally HAD 5 nights at OKW, and 2 at BWV standard view, and I so desperately DID NOT want to move. We requested standard or preferred for BWV for the waitlist, and we ended up getting all 7 nights, preferred view.


I hadn't heard anything, so I called today, and she said that we got it! She seemed confused though because there was no date that it came through, so she thinks it just happened today. Whatever! I am just sssooo psyched.

You never know when someones plans will change.
We booked a two bedroom 11 months out for HH.
Last week (7days before the trip) Mom went in the hospital with chest pains. We weren't sure if the trip would be cancelled. Luckily her heart is fine and we are packing as planned for the trip. We will be arriving Sunday and are anxious to return "home"!
