A 5 guys just opened up 2 towns over from me, about 50 miles away. Do they have good burgers there? Since I'm on a budget, how are the prices?

The prices aren't that bad. There are alot of choices that you can choose from including hot dogs. One thing about the hot dogs is they don't have any chilli. There are 2 kinds of fries, a regular kind and spicier kind. You buy everything seperate. 15 toppings are free on both the hot dogs and burgers.
I don't know if I would drive 50 miles to go to one but if you are going in that area then go ahead and try.

We love 5 guys burgers. Their burgers are huge, so I feel you get your money's worth. Their "little" burger is not little at all. I can't remember how much they are off the top of my head, but a reg burger is probably $5-6. Their fries are really good too. If you have peanut allergies, this is not the place for you. The fries are cooked in peanut oil and they have peanuts out front to eat while your waiting.

I LOVE FIVE GUYS! They have the BEST burgers in town. Prices are so so, but are definitely better than any sit down restaurant. The burgers are packaged in aluminum foil and are piping hot. The fries are great-skins on and all. They not only fill your fy cup full of fries, but they dump more fries in the bottom of your paper bag (which is guaranteed to be soaked with grease by the end of your meal), but it's sooooooo yummy!

I love Five Guys as well. The burgers are awesome! I always get the little burger and it's plenty. Fries are great, too!

THANK YOU, turtlebean!!! for the information about the fries being cooked in peanut oil and the peanuts out! My DD has a life-threatening peanut allergy and we just had a Five Guys open close to us and have been wanting to try it out. Guess we cross it off the list, at least for a family meal.
Can't wait to try them though (without DD).
I appreciate it!

Actually had 5 Guys for lunch today. A little cheeseburger (for me), a hot dog (for DD), one regular fry order, and one 20 oz drink was just over $11 including Florida tax. The regular fries are large enough for DD and me to share with plenty of leftovers, and there's free refills on the drinks. If DH is with us, he gets the bacon cheeseburger and we get the large fries instead of regular to share. It usually comes out around $20.

DD loves the shelled peanuts and it's a great way to pass the time until your number's called and your order is ready. I wouldn't drive 50 miles just to go there, but if you're over that way I think it's definitely worth checking out. Everybody we've introduced it to has loved them so far.

Edit: Yeah, this is very much not a place to go if you've got peanut allergies. They do post signs inside and out, but there are peanuts to shell up by the registers, and sometimes people throw the shells onto the floors also.

Five Guys is our favorite burger place! They have the best burgers. Their regular burger has 2 patties and the little burger has 1 (which is what I usually get). Their regular fries are more than enough for me and my 2 girls to share. We'll get the large for our entire family. A trick they taught me - if you're taking your bag of food with you don't fold down the top of the bag. Leaving it open keeps the fries from getting soggy. Their prices are more than a regular fast food place but I think it's worth it.

Five Guys has good burgers for about $10 a person, but not worth a 50 mile drive.

You know the food is good because it leaves grease marks all over the paper bag :rotfl2: Probably not too good if you are watching what you eat ;)

PS. The peanuts are not salted and my kids hate them. I like them that way, but they prefer the salted ones at Texas Roadhouse.

We also LOVE Five Guys, we have two within 8 miles of us. My son and I normally get two small burgers, share one small fry and a drink. Comes to around $12 with tax, but is plenty of food! Good info about the peanuts, they are everywhere at 5 guys!!!

Another vote for Five Guys! We live in Northern VA, where the franchise got its start. They are hands-down the best burger place around. Every year here they win several categories in the Washington Post's restaurant list, including best budget, and best burgers.

Put it this way, it's one of the first places my family want to go eat at when they visit us. They want to unpack and then it's "Let's go eat at that Five Guys place"!!

While I wouldn't drive 50 miles for one, if I were nearby, I would definitely make it a point to eat there. I recommend the Little Burger with mushrooms and onions (sauteed, yummmm) - it's not little at all. And one order of fries is always more than my family of five can eat.

LOVE IT!:goodvibes My daughter and I can split a cheesburger and fries (which are excellent!) for around $12.00 with drinks. The best.

We have had Five Guys for about 2 years here in CHattanooga. The prices are not the best (the best deal for burgers has always bee central park) But for what you get the prices are fair! The burgers are great teh fries not so much!

The Five Guys near here is slower than molasses. I went during lunch hour. It took forever for them to get the burger done... and then there were no fries ready. Don't go if you need to get back to the office in a hurry (at least until you get a sense of how quickly they serve at the one near you).

The fries-one order can serve a cuple of hungry parents and a few lacrosse team boys. They come inside a little cup inside a BIG BAG full of fries.

This is ironic, DH and I just took his Mom to Five Guys today for Mother's Day.:lmao:DMil and I both got the little bacon cheeseburgers($4.19 plus free toppings) and DH got the Famous bacon cheeseburger($5 something). Plus 3 drinks($1.89@) and a large cajun fry(can't remember the price) total was $22.40. We had enough food for 3 hungry adults. Honestly, if we went to Burger King and each got a combo meal, it would have cost more and wouldn't have tasted as good. Plus, I can get it made to order. With stuff that I would actually want to put on a burger. Like sauteed mushrooms and fried onions. Yummy!

5 Guys are great and very inexpensive for the quality of a burger. We don't order the fries (although they are fantastic) or sodas but my partner orders 2 double burgers and I get one. I really like it because everything (other than the buns) is gluten-free. Also, the only place I've ever liked the peanuts!

That link is to the menu. They make your patties from fresh, not frozen meat and start to cook them as soon as you finish ordering. Takes a little longer than McD's, but is FRESH. I LOVE 5 Guys. We try to watch what we eat, but if we crave burgers, 5 Guys is the place we go. The prices are somewhere between a fast food joint and a place like Applebees/Chilis. Honestly, I prefer 5 Guys burgers to anything besides what I could cook at home. It is no frills, just very straight forward. And, at least at our location, every customer is greeted as soon as they walk in the door, even if it is from the guy at the grill.

I think it is a great option for kids or picky eaters, because nothing comes with automatic toppings. You just pick what and as many things as you want. There is Malt Vinegar and ketchup on the counter for your fries.

The burgers are great,I'm not a huge fan of the fries but they give you enough in one order for two people. The prices are expensive if you're comparing them to other fast food places, even Fuddruckers is cheaper since they have a combo platter versus 5 Guys since everything is ordered seperately.I order the big burger and if I get fries and a drink it's in the $11-$13 range, not cheap for fast food but the burgers are good,if you share fries with someone it's not that bad.
