$5 A Day Means Disney MY Way: 17 nights, 26 ADRs, 165 TS credits

Hello and welcome to my dining report. My family and I have just returned from a fantastic 17 night trip to Walt Disney World and Orlando. We live in the UK and due to the long and expensive flight, stay for quite a while.

I am also running a trip report, and am posting my dining reviews there as well as here. Come along and check it out- we visited MNSSHP, MVMCP, the Epcot F&W Festival and the KTTK tour. Sorry for any delays in updates- handling both a trip report and a dining report along with boat-loads of school work may make me a little busy at times!

$5 A Day Trip Report

Without further ado, here are the details of our truly memorable trip:

DSC_0079_zps45942fcc.jpg

Trip Dates
30th October – 16th November

Accommodation
6 nights at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee
11 nights at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa with the Deluxe Dining Plan

During this trip, we experienced many new things, and enjoyed:

165 table service credits
• 110 snack credits
• 4 special events
• Taking over 3000 photographs
• The Keys to the Kingdom Tour

We enjoyed the Food and Wine Festival, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party... but unfortunately had to endure a not-so-nice experience at the Magic Kingdom, and had to make a complaint.

Background of the Trip

After a great deal of saving we booked to return in October/ November 2013. Initially, upgrading from the free regular dining plan seemed too expensive at around £1200 for the 11 nights (about $1800) but I decided to start saving up on my own. Putting away around £3 (or $5) a day meant that in a year, I had saved enough for the upgrade!

The point of going at this time of year was the cooler weather (whilst still being warm), the supposedly lighter crowds and the special events! Staying at Reunion gave us the chance to visit attractions unrelated to Disney around the central Florida area, so that we could truly immerse ourselves in Disney when we moved on to Saratoga Springs.

Although we made 26 ADRs, we had to cancel several due to several circumstances. These include:

The Plaza Restaurant
Beaches and Cream
Flying Fish Cafe
Akershus
Garden Grill
Planet Hollywood
The Turf Club Bar and Grill
Rainforest Cafe
Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue
Crystal Palace
Whispering Canyon Cafe
1900 Park Fare
Chef Mickey’s
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Captain’s Grille
50s Prime Time Cafe
Cape May Cafe
Biergarten Restaurant (CANCELLED)
Be Our Guest Restaurant
Grand Floridian Café (CANCELLED)
Narcoossee’s
Cinderella’s Royal Table
Liberty Tree Tavern
1900 Park Fare (CANCELLED)
Le Cellier Steakhouse
Olivia’s
T-REX Restaurant

As you can see, we enjoyed three signature restaurants along with nine character meals, and benefitted from some fantastic food.

Hello! I am Megan and am seventeen years old. I plan our trips to Disney, being the planner of the family, and decide on our itinerary, ADRs and the like. I love Disney, and America. Culturally, it is a lot more acceptable for adults to like Disney in the US- in the UK it is seen as far more for children. My love for all things Disney can irritate my family at times, but luckily my younger brother Rory is also happy to watch Disney movies and speak about Mickey and the parks.

Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favourite Restaurant: 1900 Park Fare
Favourite Character: Belle, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Minnie Mouse
Favourite Ride: Splash Mountain

This is my mum, Tracey. She loves the food and hotels involved with a Disney trip, along with the first class rides and entertainment. She also loves to relax by the fantastic swimming pools at SSR. She is a speech and language therapist and works at a hospital which she finds very rewarding!

Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favourite Restaurant: Flying Fish Cafe
Favourite Character: Mickey, Minnie and Anastasia and Drizella
Favourite Ride: Tower of Terror

DSC_0544_zps7ee675ba.jpg

This is my dad, Will. He loves the Disney shows like Dream Along with Mickey, and Pluto, Donald and Goofy hold a special place in his heart. He loves cars and enjoyed seeing all the American vehicles on the roads! He loved also the spaciousness of the villa we had in SSR and the DDP.

Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favourite Restaurant: 1900 Park Fare and Yachtsman Steakhouse
Favourite Character: Pluto, Goofy, Donald
Favourite Ride: Tower of Terror and Rock n’ Roller Coaster

This is William, who we affectionately call Willum, aged 15. He supposedly dislikes Disney, and made certain to make a fuss whenever we watched a parade or fireworks. He loves the Disney rides and can’t understand why we’d want to do anything but...!

Favourite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favourite Restaurant: Chef Mickey’s
Favourite Character: Goofy
Favourite Ride: Rock n’ Roller Coaster

DSC_0300_zpse9ee2e4f.jpg

This is Rory who is a bright, clever little eight year old boy who loves Disney (although in Willum’s presence doesn’t like to admit it sometimes!) He loves to snuggle on the sofa with me and our lovely dog and watch a Disney movie. He was looking forward to riding Rock n’ Roller Coaster this trip as he did not make the height requirement on our last trip.

Favourite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favourite Restaurant: 1900 Park Fare
Favourite Character: Pluto, Ariel
Favourite Ride: Tower of Terror and Rock n’ Roller Coaster

Without further delay, let’s start this dining report!

Dinner at the Plaza Restaurant

After a chaotic morning of explorations of Walmart and preparing for MNSSHP, we excitedly headed over to Magic Kingdom- our first Disney park of the trip! Needless to say, we were thrilled. We could enter the park at 4pm using our party tickets, so had plenty of time to get to the Plaza Restaurant for our early dinner ADR of 4:15pm. Or so we thought! :rotfl:

We arrived at the PARK at 4:15pm, and as typical with our family (you will almost come to expect it later in the TR), rushed over to the Plaza Restaurant. The park wasn't very busy yet, but a large proportion of guests walking around were in costumes, so we knew that MNSSHP would be busy later on in the night. In fact, when we drove to the park and paid for parking, we saw the 'Sorry, tonight's party is sold out' sign and realised- oh heck- this party is going to be PACKED!

For the record, we were attending the very last MNSSHP of the year on the 1st November. This is known to be one of the busiest parties of the year, next to the party on Halloween night. We (or at least I) came with expectations that took the crowds into account. So, we weren't surprised to say the least when upon our rushed arrival at the Plaza Restaurant when the seating hostess told us they were running behind. We waited nearby to be called, whilst I went off to the nearby merchandise cart selling Mickey ears and autograph books to buy two autograph books- one for Rory and one for myself. We were eventually called and taken to our table.

The restaurant is beautiful, but very small, so it isn't surprising that it was running behind so much. Our table was in a conservatory-like room and we had a wonderful window seat with a fantastic view of the castle and passers-by. It was lovely watching people in costumes walk by. The family seated next to us were dressed as surgeons- which was really cute! :upsidedow

Here my lovely dad and I are, happy to be back at the wonderful Magic Kingdom.

DSC_0076-Copy_zps1c46cc0a.jpg

Our waiter was polite- but very distant, and not very friendly. It wasn't the greatest start waiter-wise to our trip, but he wasn't rude so I shan't complain too much! He took our drinks orders and then we ordered our entrees- we weren't on the deluxe dining plan until we checked in at SSR so didn't want to order appetizers.

Our entrees were brought out fairly promptly and we really enjoyed them. We actually shared entrees as we had eaten at McDonalds at Walmart earlier and everyone but me wasn't very hungry. (I tried to tell them that we were eating just after 4pm, but no, that didn't seem to matter! :lmao: )

Adult's Grilled Cheese Sandwich

I ordered the adult's grilled cheese sandwich, which isn't listed on the main menu. It was very nice, but just a typical cheese toastie. I am vegetarian, so for any vegetarian readers, this is a good option to opt for!

DSC_0129-Copy_zpsc6144b6d.jpg

Vegetarian Sandwich ~ $11.99

Fresh Mozzarella, Hummus, Basil Pesto, Cucumber, Roasted Red Pepper, Tomato, and lettuce on Freshly Baked Focaccia with choice of Broccoli Slaw, Homemade Chips, or French Fries

My parents ordered the vegetarian sandwich to share, which they very much liked. They said it tasted fantastic, although the focaccia bread was quite stale. They said they would recommend it not only for vegetarians but for those who don't feel like a stodgy meal filled with meat!

DSC_0128-Copy_zpsbea0e386.jpg

Angus Chuck Cheeseburger ~ $14.99

Served on a Flour-dusted Kaiser Roll with Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. Choose from the following toppings: Cheddar, American Cheese, Bacon, Grilled Mushrooms or Grilled Onions. Veggie Burgers available upon request. Served with choice of Broccoli Slaw, Homemade Chips, or French Fries

William thought this was OK, but he found the burger quite dry, I believe. He orders burgers without all the fancy accompaniments so there was even less to distract from the dry-ness of the burger and bread. It is worth noting that Willum has braces and so struggles with meat anyway, so this may have altered his opinion. Despite loving meat, he often had to pass up entrées he wanted due to the risk of the food altering or getting caught in his braces.

Willum and I decided to order dessert- he wanted to order a sundae all to himself but I knew we ought to share one together- the portions are huge! Earlier in the meal I saw another table ordering the Plaza Brownie Sundae and decided then and there, that was what I wanted! For some reason, we didn't take a photograph of dessert, so here is a photograph I took off of the internet!

Plaza-Restaurant-Brownie-Large.jpg

Brownie Sundae ~ $6.49

Vanilla Ice Cream and a Fudge Brownie topped with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry

In one word, this was DELICIOUS! It is absolutely suitable for two people- I don't think one person could possibly finish it on top of an entrée. It is a huge chocolate brownie cut in half, served with two scoops of ice cream. I vastly prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla, so asked if one scoop could be chocolate (for me) and the other remain vanilla (for Willum). Absolutely no problem, and we still didn't finish the dessert- it just filled us up too much! It is pretty good value for $6.49. Desserts we get in restaurants in the UK cost upwards of $8 and for much, much less actual food.

After the meal, we hurried on out to enjoy MK before the party started! A slight inconvenience is that the Plaza Restaurant doesn't have restrooms inside, so you have to head outside the restaurant to the nearby public restrooms heading towards Tomorrowland.

We tipped the waiter 18%, but not very happily. It was almost like he expected a tip, so wasn't very attentive, nor friendly. On our last trip we encountered some unfriendly behaviour due to lower tipping so were too scared to tip lower than 18%. I don't actually think it is very fair to recommend an 18% tip as a minimum, when 15% is still very much OK in our eyes. In the UK, we tip 10% generally for outstanding service, so it is hard adjusting to US rules when you know a waiter does not deserve it, even though you know they don't get paid much hourly.

Overall, we would rate this restaurant...

::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo / 5

Atmosphere: 7
Value: 7
Food: 7
Service: 5

It is a good choice for a cheaper TS meal in Magic Kingdom, although not good value on the DDP. If you are paying OOP, this place is a great choice! We really enjoyed it- only the waiter put a slight damper on it. It really is a little hidden gem in the MK, and it really is very small!

Off we went further up Main Street USA, where we found the Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it! Parade happening in full force, before admiring Cinderella's castle.

What a lovely view, right? :goodvibes

Coming up-Hard Rock Café Overview!

The Hard Rock Café

After visiting the Kennedy Space Center (see it here) we had a priority seating request for the Hard Rock Cafe, and headed straight over to Universal to make use of it! William is a big fan of the Hard Rock Cafe in London and so visiting its Orlando counterpart was a good idea. The menu is pretty much the same, and the food was just that of a standard burger bar.

DSC_0449_zps5c2109b2.jpg

DSC_0457_zpsba7d2041.jpg

We strolled around CityWalk afterwards and weren’t very impressed. Our friends have told us that Universal is fantastic- better, even- than WDW, but we just didn’t see it. My dad described it well as ‘seedy’. It’s for adults, clearly, and Willum, Rory and I felt out of place. The theme park was right next to CityWalk and we saw some of the rides on offer- they just looked like regular roller coasters.

More coming up soon!

Lunch at Beaches and Cream

After an exciting and unproblematic check-in at Saratoga Springs, I insisted we rush over to Beaches and Cream to have our very first meal on the Deluxe Dining Plan. I knew Beaches and Cream was a popular restaurant, and I knew that you couldn’t make ADRs- so I stressed to my family the earlier we get there, the less time we’ll have to wait to get in.

Check in at our resort took longer than I had anticipated, so we ended up getting to Beach Club a little later than I’d hoped. We made the mistake of heading towards Epcot, thinking that BC would be there, being an ‘Epcot resort’, but ended up driving into Epcot instead! The lady at the entrance told us to head to DHS and follow signs for the Boardwalk. Surely enough, we made it to Beaches and Cream for about 12pm. It opened at 11am, and I was hoping to get there for as early as we could. By 12pm, the seating host said... “Ummm, sure- there’s space, but it depends how long you want to wait". To which we enquired about the wait, and were given a satisfactory 30-40 minutes. We were perfectly willing to wait that long, and I was eager to try the restaurant!

We headed into the arcade, conveniently placed next to Beaches and Cream. Beaches and Cream is actually located just next to the main pool, so for any BC guests, I would highly recommend this convenient eatery for lunch or dinner during a lazy pool day.

DSC_0523_zpse7d27c12.jpg

We played on some of the games in the arcade. My dad always gravitates towards the pinball machine for some reason! You get a gaming card, if I remember correctly, and any points you win from a given game will be tallied up until you have enough points for a prize. (They had a smart looking prize machine!)

DSC_0518_zps920a0e67.jpg

DSC_0517_zpsf2039dac.jpg

My mum chose to sit outside and bask in the glorious Floridian sun for a while. Sadly right after taking this photograph I got the much dreaded sign from our DSLR camera- ‘Low Battery’!

DSC_0524_zps47c0d707.jpg

What a tragedy! :rockband:

How am I to take pictures of our meal and the beautiful restaurant without our trustworthy camera?

No problem, I thought, I will make a sacrifice and use my iPhone. The quality wouldn’t be nearly as good, but it is better than no photos at all! We spoke to the seating host and asked for a place to charge the camera. He told us there wasn’t anywhere in the restaurant but we could always plug it into the socket outside the restaurant. I felt a bit funny about leaving it out there while we ate, but my parents apparently didn’t, and we needed lots of charge for our first Disney park- none other than spectacular Hollywood Studios!

DSC_0531_zps86c340f3.jpg

Our waitress was very nice and polite, explaining the DDP rules to us (we were most intrigued about what desserts we could get!) and taking our order quickly and efficiently. As Diet Coke, milk and Sprite aren’t the most exciting or unique of drinks, I’ll just get going on the food.

We were entitled to four starters (being four Disney adults). We only went for two portions of onion rings- unsure that one would be enough. My parents surprisingly weren’t bothered about using up every bit of value on our dining plan- I think last trip’s eating ‘food-ed’ them out a little!

Evidently (and we found this a lot at WDW) one portion of onion rings would have been enough- they were pretty big!

IMG_2923_zps77175944.jpg

IMG_2927_zpsd22bb7dc.jpg

These onion rings were delicious; piping hot and fresh. What more could we ask for?! We couldn’t finish them- saving room for not only our main course but also dessert!

Next up came our entrees! Obviously for me, the entrees were nothing- the reason I wanted to visit this place was the theming and the sweet treats for dessert!

Rory had one of the offerings from the kids’ menu...

IMG_2931_zps1dbc9f57.jpg

‘Hot Dog’

Served with choice of fresh Fruit or French Fries and one (1) Beverage and one (1) Dessert

Cost ~ $8.59

He gobbled this up! He is a big fan of hot dogs and this really pleased him. Just a regular hot dog; no ketchup (I am certain he is one of the only children who doesn’t like ketchup, baked beans or pizza) and simple french fries.

I had the...

IMG_2930_zps0c8de33d.jpg

Vegetarian Falafel

Served on Flatbread with Black Olive Hummus, Cucumber, Tomato, and Lettuce topped with a Soy Tzatziki-style Sauce served with House-made Pickles and choice of French Fries or Fruit

Cost: $11.99

The falafel was an adventurous choice (I am pretty picky when it comes to trying new food) and it was fairly disappointing. I am a vegetarian and regret not ordering the cheese toastie (or in America- ‘grilled cheese sandwich’ because the falafel was incredibly dry and pretty flavourless. I ate up the fries, but at this point I was sick of them, after literally living off of them for the last six days at Reunion Resort.

My dad ordered the...

IMG_2934_zps29917970.jpg

Bacon Angus Beef Burger

Served with Smoked Bacon, Blue Cheese, Barbecue Sauce, Onion Rings, Lettuce, and Tomato on a Fresh-baked Bun with choice of fresh Fruit or French Fries

Cost: $14.49

I believe he liked this, but similarly it wasn’t anything spectacular. It was absolutely huge and stacked with bacon among other tempting treats, so he didn’t finish it- also eager to save room for dessert.

My mum ordered the...

IMG_2941_zps10830f3a.jpg

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque

Six-Cheese blend on Brioche Bread

Cost: $8.99

My mum wasn’t particularly hungry, but she really enjoyed the tomato bisque. I’m not sure she can comment on the grilled cheese sandwich because she was kind enough to let me have it! (I can confirm it was quite tasty, but simply a cheese sandwich and not much more!)

And finally, Willum ordered some sort of burger- I am assuming it is the...

IMG_2935_zpsc1ee0f6d.jpg

Angus Beef Burger

Served with Cheddar, Lettuce, and Tomato on a Fresh-baked Bun with choice of fresh Fruit for French Fries

Cost: $13.99

William liked this and had no complaints- so I am assuming it is a decent burger! Nevertheless, he didn’t rave about it for the rest of the trip so I am assuming it wasn’t too revolutionary! As a note, Willum orders burgers without all the ‘fancy’ accompaniments, so his burger is probably a bit bare in comparison to what it would normally be!

Pahahahahaha...!!!

IMG_2953_zpsdf3c231c.jpg

Now for the highlight of the meal, dessert! After looking at the menus again for inspiration, we made our decision. After everything, my mum insisted she did not want dessert.

What?! :eek: popcorn::

IMG_2944_zps96756351.jpg

Sadly, we moved on and ordered our own. I ordered, naturally fussily, the...

IMG_2968_zpsad0a93fb.jpg

Brownie À La Mode

A gooey, chewy Brownie, Hot Fudge, and Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Sprinkles, and a Cherry

Cost: $6.49

Bear in mind I just ordered the brownie and ice cream- I am pretty easy to please! The brownie was delicious and as advertised, gooey. I much prefer chocolate ice cream to its vanilla counterpart (you will probably catch on that I am a ‘chocoholic’) so requested that instead.

My brother Willum also ordered the Brownie dessert, but with all the toppings, and sadly I didn’t get a photograph for whatever reason. He scoffed it all down within a while though, so he clearly enjoyed it.

Rory got the...

IMG_2969_zps05ed9c33.jpg

Mickey Mouse Sundae

One scoop of Ice Cream with Oreo's and a Cherry

He liked this, although he surprisingly isn’t a fan of chocolate ice cream. William loves Oreos though, and was sure to nibble on them towards the end of the meal. I thought it was a very clever idea!

My dad ordered the adventurous...

Classic Banana Split

A ripe Banana, Three Scoops of Ice Cream (Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry), Pineapple, Strawberry, and Marshmallow Topping finished off with Hot Fudge, Caramel, Toasted Almonds, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry

Cost: $8.49

How he loved this! It was absolutely gigantic and filled with ice cream, banana and tempting treats. We thought it was pretty good value for just over $8, especially being onsite at Disney. I would expect it to cost quite a bit more than this in the UK.

A few people ordered the Kitchen Sink during our meal:

IMG_2951_zpsf6e5d7ab.jpg

Kitchen Sink

Scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Coffee, and Mint Chocolate Chip smothered in every topping we have

Cost: $28.99

With sirens and lights going off each time it was delivered to a table, it certainly was an exciting affair! We managed to get a quick photo of one from a kind guest...

We went and got our camera, took a few more photographs and left to head right on over to Hollywood Studios, one of our favourite Disney parks and a close contender with our absolute favourite Magic Kingdom. (William and Rory would probably argue that DHS is even better than MK!)

DSC_0528_zpsca0a72fe.jpg

DSC_0532_zps1d9cfa25.jpg

Overall, a really nice start to the trip. It’s nice they don’t accept reservations at Beaches & Cream- it gives everyone a chance to try it without planning months ahead. The theming is adorable, the atmoshphere is cute, and the restaurant is tiny! And I truly mean pretty small! If you want to eat there, I would try and get there early to minimize your wait- it is a popular restaurant. Probably not the best value for those on the DDP, but a great option for us and even better for those eating OOP. (Although I think I loved it more than my parents!)

Our general consensus is the following:

Food: 6.5
Value: 7
Atmosphere: 7
Service: 6.5
Location: 7

Our overall rating out of 5: 4

Angus Chuck Cheeseburger ~ $14.99

I could be wrong, but that doesn't look much like a cheeseburger :confused3

We love the Plaza and Beaches and Cream but weren't too bothered about the Hard Rock Café on our last visit. We thought it over-priced for the quality of the food.

Looking forward to reading more of your dining adventures.

great reviews :goodvibes

Some fab meals, Im just sorting through my ADR's at the moment.

Look forward to seeing some more. :)

Joining in! I am loving your reviews so far and look forward to reading along and drooling over all the yummy WDW food. :woohoo:

Flying Fish Café

After an exciting afternoon at DHS we went over to the Boardwalk for our first dinner on the DDP: none less than the Flying Fish Café. I chose this restaurant because my mum is incredibly fond of fish dishes. When, several years ago, we were eating in a restaurant in Sardinia (near to Italy), she refrained from ordering the seafood platter she really wanted because it was simply so expensive. I booked this restaurant to give her a taste of seafood without worrying about the cost!

We caught the end of a street performing act as we walked on the Boardwalk, and headed right into the restaurant.

PHEW! It absolutely stank of fish! And really not in a good way, either. It was pretty overwhelming and slightly unpleasant.

DSC_0580_zps58041b8f.jpg

Its a very unusual restaurant, and it has a very upmarket feel to it. Mainly adults were dining- it is certainly one of the least child friendly signature restaurants in WDW. My dad felt quite uncomfortable- he didnt understand much on the menu, and the prices and general vibe of the place put him off. He isnt used to such upmarket restaurants. If Im honest, I didnt feel comfortable either.

DSC_0585_zps960f18d0.jpg

Our waitress, Tracy, was absolutely lovely. She was friendly, and leant her glasses to my parents when they couldnt see their menus (they forgot their glasses- and left them at the villa). She started off by bringing out some drinks and fresh bread.

DSC_0583_zps54107756.jpg

The fresh bread was certainly very tasty. We then moved onto appetizers, with my dad ordering the...

DSC_0588_zps6320221e.jpg

Yellowfin Tuna Tartare and Crispy Tempura Tuna-Vegetable Sushi Roll

Hijiki and Wakame Seaweed, Yuzu Tobiko, and Wasabi Foam with a Sweet-and-Spicy Sauce

Cost: $18.00

My parents arent big fans of sushi (note my mums experience of sushi at California Grill in 2011) but my dad really enjoyed this. He actually finished it, which probably says a lot.

My mum ordered the...

DSC_0593_zps3854a8ec.jpg

Mozzarella di Bufala alla Caprese

Florida Yellow Beefsteak, UgliRipe and Tiny Tomatoes, Aged Balsamico, Exotic Peppercorns, Petite Basil, and Sicilian Olio Verde

Cost: $15.00

My mum enjoyed this, although it wasnt exceptional. Tasting an $15 appetizer was pleasing in itself- we dont usually order appetizers at restaurants but the Disney dining plan allowed us to for no extra cost.

Willum, Rory and I didnt really want an appetizer so just went on to order the main courses. William ordered the...

DSC_0599_zpsecb525d3.jpg

Strozzapreti Pasta d'Abruzzo

Little Ear Pasta with Rustic Five-Meat Ragú, Sun-dried and fresh Tiny Tomatoes, Arugula, and Pecorino Romano. Also offered as a Vegetarian and Lacto-ovo friendly dish with Pesto-laced Vegetable Primavera

Cost: $22.00

William thought this was OK, but the taste was very strong and the meal fairly substantial. He couldnt finish it, and it certainly wasnt his favourite meal of the trip.

I also ordered this meal, but as a vegetarian option. I requested a tomato sauce instead of pesto, which I dont particularly like. Here is mine:

DSC_0605_zps45452258.jpg

It was OK, but had an incredibly strong and relatively spicy flavour. Im not too familiar with spicy foods so this was a shock. The taste was incredibly powerful, and whilst it was nice, I couldnt eat too much without my mouth burning a little.

My dad had the:

DSC_0598_zpsa2daf786.jpg

Char-crusted Angus New York Strip Steak

Yellow Wax Beans, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, and Fall-crop Root Vegetables with Classic Sauce Foyot

Cost: $43.00

He liked this, but it wasnt nearly as good as a steak that he tasted at another Disney restaurant (more to come on that!) He managed to eat a good deal of it.

I havent got a photo of my mums entrée, so either she didnt get one or I just forgot to take a picture. Oops!

Rory would have had this:

DSC_0594_zps571d8094.jpg

Romaine Hearts

Crisp Veggies, Ranch Dressing, and Little Croutons

Cost: $4.00

My mum ate this, and thought it was fine. Its just a plain kids salad though- nothing exceptional.

He then had this for his entrée entitlement of the DDP:

DSC_0606_zps0ff4dbcb.jpg

Bowl of Mickey Pasta

Your choice of Tomato Sauce and Parmesan, Creamy Alfredo, or Creamy Cheddar Sauce. Served with choice of Small Lowfat Milk, Small Dasani® Water, or Small Minute Maid® Apple Juice

Cost: $8.00

However we also asked if he could have some salmon, as he is a huge fan of it. Tracey kindly brought some salmon with his Mickey pasta. (Which he requested plain with butter).

Rory was actually asleep when his meal was brought over- the poor little guy was very tired! We woke him up and he grumpily ate his meal, but he did enjoy it. It was a treat for him having such tasty salmon.

We were tired and decided to skip dessert. Of course, I couldnt miss out completely. I ended up getting a HUGE two-scoop bowl of chocolate ice cream, which was delicious, on the DDP as a snack credit. Unfortunately I didnt get a photograph- but take my word for it- it was absolutely huge! In the UK, a scoop of ice cream is the size of the ice cream scoop. In WDW, a scoop of ice cream is probably three times the size of the ice cream scoop. If you arent on the DDP and want an ice cream, one scoop is totally sufficient.

Anyway, back to Flying Fish Café- we got ready to leave somewhat disappointed. The food was just OK- and one would certainly expect more than OK when paying so much for a meal. Overall, my dad was particularly disappointed- he just didnt feel like he fit in!

Can you tell we look tired?! Tired, but happy to be back home at WDW.
