5/31/11 -- Chilling on the Wonder

I was just over at the MR trip reports and someone had pictures of food. I was almost drooling over it as I was having my Weight Watcher dessert.:):) So glad we are going to be on board soon.

What is everyone planning on packing??? I know I know...put in everything you want to take a take out half...but this seems more difficult. Everything that I have read says...layer. We have large 2 piece gortex/polar fleece jackets...Which seems reasonable-but will take up a lot of room. We have under armor jackets that are less bulky..and would probably be good with polar fleece underneath...

Today the weather in Anchorage is 34 degrees and snowy...

Any thoughts????

I was just refunded $150 from DCL a few days a go... I wasn't sure what it was for; but I hope they are not going to call asking for it back like they did you? Mine was 3 seperate credits totalling $150:confused3

I received 1 credit for $186 but I didn't receive a phone call either :confused3

50 days out :banana::cool1::banana:

Are they changing our arrival time in Ketchican? When I log on and go to my reservation....the arrival time for Ketchican is **:

Day Port Ashore Onboard
1 Vancouver, Canada - 4:00 p.m.
2 At Sea - -
3 Tracy Arm, Alaska - -
4 Skagway, Alaska 7:15 a.m. 7:30 p.m.
5 Juneau, Alaska 7:45 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
6 Ketchikan, Alaska ** 7:30 p.m.

I've got plans that day

I am normally a pretty light packer; but this trip is going to throw me off my game- needing day wear, dinner wear, and anybody's guess as to what we should plan to wear on land; I'm going to bring one or two pairs of shorts incase it is unseasonably hot, I'm bringing mostly long pants, I am bringing us each a large coat, a light-weight coat, scarves, and gloves. There are 7 of us so we will have a loooot of luggage....

Oh, wow!! I didn't realize we were down to 50 days:). That makes it really sound close... And we are leaving the Sunday before; so it's 48 days for us:woohoo::woohoo:. When we get down to under 30 days, I'll really be excited!

You and me both...I'm thinking of only bringing a 2 MAYBE 3 dresses and just wearing khaki's the rest of the time for dinner...I'm planning on some techwick shirts, polar fleece..and not sure if I should worry about long underwear???? And wool socks take up a lot more space too...time to get creative!

Packing is going to be a real challenge. Just trying to get my husband to understand he needs some clothes if it is colder is going to be a challenge. He will probably be the one in shorts the whole cruise. :scared1: I have never liked long underwear so thought I would try some footless tights instead. We have always said if we need something we can always bu it might come into play this trip, I just hope not too much. We just got home from San Francisco where the weather was somewhat similar to what we are suppose to experience and I was good. Need to worry about getting DS through prom first though.

DH just informed me it will be about 60 when we are there and then I got "The Look" (you know that "silly Girl" what are you thinking....long underwear...":rolleyes1) If he only knew what a silly boy he was...maybe I should make him do the packing!!!

The thing is- the predicted/average temps don't sound that bad; as a matter of fact- they sound really nice:). But while on the ship, we have the wind of the ocean obviously.... Then on land we have to remember we are in a rain forest; 60 sounds nice; 60 and raining sounds cold! And I don't know about others; but one of our excursions is whale watching- so again, wind off the water makes it much cooler.... I don't think we are going to be freezing by any means, but I am definately going prepared for some cooler weather.... Oh, and Tracy Arm- they say the wind coming off those glacier can be pretty near freezing- I definately want to be able to bundle up, because I sure plan to spend lots of time outside that day:)>

I hope this helps with the packing list.
Let the planning begin

- Bill

I'm really excited. On Monday I told my boss that when I left for vacation I would not be returning.

Fly out on the 28th
Holiday on the 30th
1st day of retirement (before starting a new career) on the 31st

I can't think of a better way to start off my 1st day of my 1st retirement than to step onto the deck of the Wonder.

Just back from hearing a presentation by Kim Phuc "The Girl In The Picture". What an inspiration to hear her story and such an honor to meet her afterwards.

Would all of you please keep my family in your thoughts. The Doctor just determined that I have a hernia and we are hoping that the surgery will not stop us from going on this trip. I am not sure if he will have me go through the surgery before or after the cruise. I will find out on the 20th.
