5/31/11 -- Chilling on the Wonder

Would all of you please keep my family in your thoughts. The Doctor just determined that I have a hernia and we are hoping that the surgery will not stop us from going on this trip. I am not sure if he will have me go through the surgery before or after the cruise. I will find out on the 20th.

I'll be thinking positive thoughts. I must be a very anxious time for you. :grouphug:

Hoping for good news for you.

Just returned from the San Diego area, where I grew up, and as we sat watching the ocean, some dolphins swam by. It really got me to thinking about the cruise. I almost stopped by to see the Wonder on the way home.

So funny - we saw dolphins the other night while we were dining at Duke's in Malibu.

When we got off the ferry from Catalina this morning, I told my sister, "hey, we could go see the Wonder over in San Pedro." She said we would be seeing soon enough next month in Vancouver. : (

I need some packing advice...Can the kids wear jeans to dinner in the evening? Can adults? How dressy to the kids get for the formal nights?

I'm hoping Alaska will be more informal than other cruises. Normally, I love to dress up, but I had a baby in February, and I'm working on losing the weight. I've bought some jeans that I can wear now, and I'll buy a dress that can double for Palo and formal night, but other than that, I don't want to buy much until right before my maternity leave is over.

Yes, jeans are allowed. DCL does not enforce any dress code except in Palo. That said, there is no prohibition against jeans in the dining room, any more.

There will be both kids and adults decked out for dinner, especially formal night.

My DS and DH will put on a tie for formal night but not any kind of jacket. We haven't cruised with them for awhile so my son will be glad to wear jeans in the dining room.

Thinking good thoughts for you speakupjc!

I can't believe how close it's getting! Dh is in Alaska right now for work!

IS HAPPY TO REPORT THAT ALL HER FE GIFTS ARE DONE!!! Now to package it all and make sure it doesn't take up a ton of room (it shouldn't) This now gives me time to get little stuff together too!!! :cool1:

What is formal night? Is this a ship-wide thing? When is it?

Sort of a theme for dinner and the stage show. On formal night, people will dress in formal attire (not everyone does and you are not excluded nor treated differently). Quite often, this is a "Prince and "Princess" evening.

Three of the nights will be rotational dining. Each of the dining rooms serve their standard menus and everyone will have a night in each of the rooms.

The first Alaskan cruises leave in less than two weeks!
Has anyone packed? I just read on another thread about minimus.biz, which has travel-sized versions of nearly everything. I think I may have to do some stocking up.
Hey AuntLynne, next time you get ON the ferry to Catalina, look me up!

Whoops! I noticed I have one of my stateroom numbers wrong too! I'll fix those. Everyone let me know if I messed anyone else up!

My DSis says luggage tags arrived today; now I need to begin thinking about what goes in the suitcase.

hi all.....

i was able to get a reservation for dinner at palo for day 2...yay!!....

i thought i remembered seeing someone post what happens on what night??.....i don't want the kids to miss any of the special events......is there usually something special on the days that we are at sea??

thanks for ur help!:lovestruc

My daughter is six, anyone with kids around that age and early dining want to see about dining together?

Wooohoo!!! Was randomly checking the site today and was able to book the Disney Exclusive Musher for a Day (wasn't available before) - in case anyone was looking at that and couldn't get it before.

Not that it really matters for the FE, but DD will be 3 mos, not 4.

I'll change it! We don't want her growing up any faster than she already is!:)

My inlaws are coming next week. As soon as they leave we are breaking out the suitcases!! Can't wait!

We requested the private room for Palo for brunch and dinner for our very large group. We should find out soon if we got it! Here's hoping!
