5/30/2010-5 Night Disney Wonder Memorial Day Double Dip! Roster-Post 626 on page 42

Here's a strange fact from a KS boy. I actually climbed Pikes Peak 20 years ago this summer. The summer after I graduated from HS. Beautiful scenery!

You didn't cheat and take the railway to the top?

Yes, the scenery is so beautiful that Katharine Lee Bates composed a lot of the poem titled Pikes Peak while on top of Pikes Peak. The words of this poem later became the song "America the Beautiful". Pictures can't do the mountain vistas justice. This one is of the Continental Divide.

I've only visited Wichita a couple of times. I had a client near there, and I really liked the quiet suburbs as they had a more small town feel than the suburbs of KC. I grew up in a very small town in the middle of Missouri so root for the Tigers as well as the Chiefs & Royals.

Love the additional mountain pics (as well as the cruise pics). I was actually born in Seattle, only lived there for my first few years and only been back a few times, but somehow seeing snow covered mountains makes me homesick in a way, makes me think of Mt. Ranier.

Hope everyone's Memorial Day went well. Ours was actually cool and rainy. I've never been to the Northwest, but thought that I was there this weekend. :rolleyes1 We normally don't get this much moisture, but we had lots of rain all weekend long with temps in the 50s and 60s. Loved the moisture, but wished it could have been warmer.

The kids really wanted to swim and went swimming in a neighborhood pool for about 20 minutes with temps in the upper 60's. Fortunately, we will warm up this week.

I keep thinking that next Memorial Day will be warmer (and hopefully drier), but at least it will be spent on the Wonder!!

Swimming in the 60's?? BRRRRRRR!!! I'm convinced kids will swim in any water where ice cubes are not floating :)

We were actually down in Disney this past week. The first day and 1/2 were gorgeous, and then....the skies opened up and buckets poured down, non-stop. Thank goodness our room had a dryer, because our clothes were soaking wet at the end of the day (and this is WITH poncho's and umbrellas). We ended up leaving Disney a few days early and going home to NJ where the weather was picture perfect.

Now here's to hoping that next Memorial Day will be warm and dry :sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:

I've been on the train to the top of the peak a couple of times but this time we roughed it. It was a cool experience to say I've climbed a 14k peak I guess.

I have some family in CO still so we get out there every couple of years. I still love it every time we go.

Lets hope the Royals get back to their winning ways of a couple of weeks ago. It would sure be nice to see them be successful again.

Yes, here's hoping for a good year for the Royals. They haven't had a good year since Ewing Kauffman passed away and Brett retired. I had just moved here two years ago to watch the Rockies September/October streak to make it to the World Series. It brought back memories of the Royals in the 80's! It's been too long of a draught.

A coworker of mine was in Disney this past week as well. She was in the DVC villas and said she had to dry her clothes every night and even left a load in the dryer and Disney is shipping it to her. She said she had never seen so much rain and she goes to Disney about 3 times a year.

Hi all!! Sorry I haven't been around much! This SAHM gig has got me not staying home! LOL It's the end of the school year hustle and bustle! I am SO looking forward to summer!!! Had a good weekend.....kids did some swimming at the local wave pool and we had a BBQ at the neighbors, who have a pool! We also went to the movies...Colton saw Star Trek with a friend and Connor and I saw Night in a Museum. It was cute!!

I got the boys school calendar for next year and I am THRILLED!!! As long as there's no snow days to make up! LOL We cruise out on the 30th of May, the 31st is Memorial Day, the kids last day is June 1. They have the potential to make up snow days thru June 8 though. Sooo, here's hoping the kids will only miss one day of school for this cruise, June 1! I'll just need to verify with the teachers that grades will be turned in prior to Memorial Day...which I am "pretty sure" they are. The only thing I can guess is that the teachers will hold report cards and have a mandetory final on June 1. I am sure there will be a LOT of people who would not even bother to send their kids to school for one day. Myself included. We'll see how this all plays out, but for now it's looking great!!!

Christopher, loving the photos still!! You have quite the eye! Keep them coming!!

We are leaving soon for our trip to The World and can't wait!!!!!! I am bummed about Fantasimics minimal showings. I read that it makes for chaos and mayhem. I am afraid we might even skip this all together this time... and I don't like that! It's one of my favorites, but I don't want to have to deal with the crowds either.

I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy!!!!

Whatever you do...

Hi All,

We booked this DD the last night of our Easter Week cruise on the Wonder back in April. That was our first Disney cruise. I am SO excited :yay: to be able to spend two days on Castaway Cay, and have a day at sea to relax and enjoy being on the ship.

We found that on the three night cruise, we were so busy running from ship to excursion to ship to show to eat, that we never had a chance to explore. I am particularly looking forward to checking out the Rainforest Room in the Spa.

In case anyone is considering it, the Dolphin Encounter is AWESOME!!! :ccat:

Welcome!! Who all is going with you? I cant believe how close we are to the 1 yr mark. I booked this cruise, my first Disney cruise, in January and havent been able to stop thinking about it since. There are some wonderful people on this thread, so full of information. Looking forward to chatting and meeting you.

Welcome aboard.

You'r correct 3 nights is just not enough.

We always, or almost always, try to book a cruise while on the ships. Between the onboard discount and banked DVC pts. our current plan, if it holds together, is to do this 5-night DD, several nights at WDW and then back to the Wonder for the 5-night Key West.

We decided to add the 5-night Key West when we found out that some DIS friends we met on the Wonder several years ago where booked to go then.

In all our DCL trips, we have never been to the Rainforest Room so I can't help you.

Have fun planning and look forward to meeting everyone.

Have fun in Disney World!!! If we were to have gone on our original schedule, I would be at the airport right now waiting to board the plane to Orlando. :sad2: We now have to wait until August. I've also been debating about Fantasmic. We missed it on our last trip, so it's been three years since we've seen it. Not sure if we'll wait it out this trip or not. I thought about a Fantasmic dinner, but I've read those don't guarantee you much of a shorter wait or even a seat.

With the kid's baseball schedules we would have missed too much. We now have 10 baseball games scheduled for when we would have been gone. Between the regular schedule and make-up games, we'll be very busy the next ten days (the length of our originally scheduled trip). Oh well, it'll be fun when we get there in August.

Our kids also get out of school right before next year's cruise. I think they should carry snow days over as we haven't had one snow day for the past two years. With our luck they'll have 10 next year and they'll extend the year. Oh well, I guess they'll have to miss those last few days. When we were at school yesterday for the awards assembly, we joked that our kids would never qualify for the perfect attendance award anyway. The principal had everyone stand yesterday who had perfect attendance and who had obtained a 3.5 GPA or higher to try to show the correlation. We said she should ask who missed three weeks of school and still got a 4.0 for the entire year. We missed the first 9 days at the beginning of the year for our Panama Canal cruise and the kids were out for a week in March with the flu. Yet, their grades never suffered.

:welcome: to both the DIS and this thread!!

We have friends who left yesterday on their first Disney cruise -- a 3 day Wonder cruise. We told them that they would be booking another cruise before they got off the ship. I'm worried about 5 days being too short. :rolleyes1 We love sea days and with only one, we may cut our day in Nassau very short. Anyone else planning to stay on-board at Nassau?

Again, welcome to the thread. I've added your DIS name to the first post on this thread. If you would like me to add more information, just let me know.

Now that we're close to the one year date, I thought I'd post a few pictures of Port Canaveral - our meeting place one year from now.

I was just catching up on some web reading and by garsh we will be at Disney one year from today getting ready to cruise. This past 6 or 7 months of planning seemed so long even though we were at the world in March for seven days. May has gone so fast for us there has been graduations, several birthdays our daughter graduated from nursing school our 10 month old grandson had to have surgury.... boy and June doen not look much better.
Well company at the door have to run.

One year from today! The count down begins. This next year is going to be both full of anticipation and excitement and pain having to wait that long!
