Ok....got some before and after pictures for you. There are still a few odd things that need to be done, but for the most part, they are done!! Everytime I go outside I just can't BELIEVE this is our house!!!
btw, the front of the house is done in a faux shake siding. The rest is done is the same color but the regular siding look.

The front.....before:

After:

btw, who decided to put the pillar RIGHT in front of the picture window???

Looks good and what a difference.

Wow Ohminnie! What a difference! Very nice!

I want to put some of the fake stone on portions of our house. Just having trouble convincing Jay that it's a good idea. We have slump block, which is so boring.

Thanks for the good wishes on my back, everyone. It's a little tender, now that I've been up and moving more. I'll just have to be pretty careful with it for a day or two.
I have four broken vertebra in there. No surgery for me...too risky.

What is slump block???

It's kind of hard to explain.....they're a concrete-mix block that would maybe (kind of) remind you of bricks, I guess. Ours are a tan or beige color...and it's just boring.

Thank you! I just got back from the bank and the stupid grocery store...a little harder getting around....but that's when the handicap parking sticker comes in handy.

That's when you send the DH on errands!! :confused3

Are they the large blocks that they use a lot for commercial buildings??

The "boss" was working, and I'm playing hookey...so I shouldn't ask him to run errands for me. Gotta keep him happy between now and cruise time!

Here's what slump block looks like:

What's nice about a slump block home is that they are much more energy-efficient when compared to frame (wood) homes or stucco. But still boring.

Oddly enough, Jared is watching a program about bricks. I'm thinking the kid will go into construction........

Our house is 4 sided hard coat stucco which we recently had painted for $$$$$$ everything has gone exhaubatant so less cruise $$$$, last week I decided it was time to pull all the plants out in the front so after DH had someone here doing that I then had to go buy new to replace all of them, boy, plants add up quick and after all this I hope they don't die, I got home yesterday to see the guys here planting but still have another area to buy for this weekend. Never ending projects!!!

I like that, maintenance free.

It is maintenance free...I guess I never really thought about that. But since our house is ranch style, we have wood trim. And it needs painting badly!

We don't have too many plants to worry about...just my four rose bushes. Nothing else will grow out here. Too much sand & rocks.

Growing up in a wood frame house, I tell you I don't find owning a brick home boring, but reliable. As you're said, way more energy efficient, and definitely far less maintainance hassle.

And I find that look of slump block far from boring.

DH is currently building a house for spec and I am hoping and praying and praying some more that it sells, he has been in electrical since age 18 and my FIL was in construction in SA, DH gets home and doesn't want to do anything in the house himself!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Guess I should sign off and get ready to take Jared to his ball game. I don't think I'll stay. Sitting there doesn't seem like such a great idea. But I WILL make Dad go do parent duty for that one.

Day 1 CC - Cabana Massage, Personal Watercraft Can't wait to go! 4 weeks from today we are at WDW!

Paul

I loved the cabana massage!!! Something about laying in the sun, listening to the wave, and have a woman rub warm oil all over my body.

Well, thank you. I guess we see a lot of it here....I like the houses in my Mom's neighborhood in Omaha....all painted pretty colors....

That's pretty typical. I always say that for us it's like the shoemaker's kids, who have no shoes!

Hi Ron :wave2: I was just thinking about you :thumbsup2 A friend and I were watching Shopgirl (by Steve Martin) last night (it's so-so). Anyway, there's a small part about Mojito's. Was Robert the name of the bartender who made them so well??? Do you know if he'll be on this cruise?

We're flying the scenic route to Florida.........via Vegas. Maybe we'll see ya!

And yes, Fran and Ron are great at kickin' their heels up!
Sherry

HI SHERRY!!!

The name of the maker of the Best Mojitos :worship: in the Magic is "Arul" :cheer2: (I believe, I am SO bad at names!) We will be enjoying those again, "After hours" I assume? :drinking1

Yes, please let me know when you will be in Vegas! I am Flying to FL Friday night and staying at the Hyatt, then Limo'ing it to the port... so, hopefully you'll hit Vegas before I leave for FL... :cool1:

I agree, the maintenance gets boring.
In SA there is no such thing as wood frame houses so this was a totally new concept fot us!! We had brick with plaster finish inside and out, no such thing as fists thru the walls!! :rotfl2:
