Hey there! My daily check in....
Today we went to Mt. Vernon. ...the home of George Washington. BEAUTIFUL PLACE! I wished it wasn't so chilly and windy or we would have spent a lot more time there. Sun was shining, but it was chilly b/c of the wind.

Then we headed back to the Smithsonian American History Museum. Saw Dorthy's ruby slippers and Jerry Seinfeld's "puffy shirt." Also lots more stuff. The place is just too darn big to do it properly in the time we have. Now the kids are in the pool chillin'

Hope everyone is having fun here.....skimmed quickly and saw the gator!

Kevin, I think it was you that asked....the cherry blossoms are/were BEAUTIFUL. It is definitely a GORGEOUS time to come to DC....although VERY busy. And WAY too many obnoxious middle school kids for my liking (using this as a social opportunity to be away from home for a week!) Anyway, back to the blossoms....saw a LOT of them on Sunday as we did all the monuments and I'm glad we did. That horrible storm came through here last night (Nick referred to it as a "hurricane") and a lot of the blossoms are gone. Maybe the crowds will leave now that the blossoms are gone!

Thinking of movin to DC just to have a Metro in my town. That thing is SWEET!

I'm sitting here watching this bird go back and forth, back and forth like he was in jail (basically he is). It's hysterical! He goes from one perch to the next to the next up the side of the cage down to the bottom. He's crazy. Is this normal? It's only his 3rd day with us. I feel sorry for him.

Funny I was watching our fish this morning and said to Aubrey 'what a sad life they lead just swimming around the bowl, day in and day out'!!

Hello Fellow Cruisers!

We just booked the "Double Dip" cruise and will be joining you on May 27th.

Our crew includes myself (Bruce), DW (Sandy), DD13 (Amanda), DD11 (Jennifer), and MIL (Evelyn). This will be MIL’s first cruise ever, but the rest of us have been on 5 other DCL cruises, all on the Magic with the last one being the repo cruise to LA last May.

This is a very active group, and you seem to have very interesting conversations. However, I don’t think the eight weeks before the cruise is going to be enough time to read all 34,000+ posts and to catch-up on the happenings. Can someone post a quick review of any DIS Meets or events being planned?

Amanda has already found the teen thread and is making friends there. She is excited about her first cruise as an official teen and having “The Stack” as a hang-out.

My hope is to make this a true vacation and leave work at home, but there is the possibility of me needing to bring my laptop. Does anyone have the latest information on wireless availability and costs?

We’re looking forward to seeing the Big Screen at the Goofy Pool and meeting some new DIS friends, but mostly relaxing and enjoying the week on the Magic.

No we haven't will have to try it though.
Thanks and I need to start making a list of all the yummy stuff I need my MIL to bring when she comes - she might as well do something useful for the 3 months I have to put up with her!!!!

Sorry I have been off-line Maria, but we are birders....I'll try to see your earlier posts, rather than asking what type is he? How large is his cage etc.

Birds will hop and jump from post to post when they want attention from you.....they are basically flock birds and if there is only one in a cage, they will want you to become their flock-mates.....

He may also be stressed if it is only his 3rd day, esp. if he (she) was with other birds....if he seems too stressed, try placing a light cover (sheet) over him.

We have 2 cockatiels. My daughter got the first one from someone she worked with at Lowes more than 6 years ago. We have no idea how old he is. We figured if he had some company he'd leave us alone for awhile, so we got a female just about a month ago. He still squaks to get out of his cage and visit us (mostly me), and doesn't like to share his cage very much. He has learned to tolerate the newcomer, though. They are both very tame. He sure wasn't when we 'inherited' him. Took him awhile to get social.

Nothing named Kiki can sit still for very long... if she lives up to her name, she's got the attention span of a gnat, and can't relax to save her life... you've got a Type A 'Kiki'!!!!! (Maybe you SHOULD have named it Jeter... he's good at doing nothing but blowing bubbles in the dugout.)

Hey guys, I am home and boy am I tired. Found out on my way home that I have to be in the office early tomorrow because they need me for a video they are taping. Oh boy, just what I want to do on the first day back from a trip.

Have I missed any good conversation?? I am afraid I probably won't have time to read all that I missed those few days. I think i saw where Stacey said we are going to Coz. That's good, better that we don't have to scratch anything out on our bags,

and speaking of bags, please send in your order forms by Friday. I will keep reminding. There are some people I haven't heard from yet.

Sounds like a great trip....we took a tour of the capital ions ago, without the cherry blossoms....I could have lived at the Smithsonian.......but we did also see Mont Vernon and many other sites...must go pull the album and walk through memory lane - aack! I still have to finish our November album....

Acclimating -- Maria - I found a few references on bringing home the budgie---

This source suggests when the new bird is brought home he should be kept completely undisptubed for a few hours or days. Sometimes, they perch unappily at first...others clume tirely around the cage, stand ont heir heards, etc. Behavioral biologists describe this as displacement behavior, which the bird does in conflict situations....With these seeminly pointless gymastic exercises, the bird is trying to divert both itself and the observer from the feelings of fear.

Once the bird starts eating the first hurdle is cleared.

Apparently the bird will start winking - in bird language, this big creature does not scare me.

Spray millet is suggested as comfort food in the first few days.
