I learned in a trivia game on the NCL cruise that curling is the national sport of Canada. Jay knew it. Or was that England? No, Canada. Maybe not.
I guess I didn't really learn anything.

BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'd say Canada.
Mostly because there are a lot of French in Canada and they think of all the freaky things. Like fries and toast and braids. ;) ;)

Right! A very "interesting sport"!! :rotfl2:

At what age do you decide you want to be an Olympic curler? I can't see some 5 yr old saying "mommy, when I grow up I want to be a curler!!"

Doubt it. I know my kids... I know what they like and I know they'll like it. They are already talking about how they don't even want to come out for dinner on the cruise. LOL My kids would much rather be in the club/lab than anywhere else on the ship. I've even shown/discussed OQ to my oldest and she's like hmmm, maybe- maybe not. Not her cup of tea (she'd be happy if she was in the club with the 6yr olds even! LOL just how she is..) We will probably have no problems getting them out for the show and/or character greetings and such.. ie: they'll like those things- but anything else they'd probably rather not (like when we make them come eat dinner with us- which I imagine we will since now I have found out that the club/lab takes the kids to eat dinner at the time we'd be at the show with them... meaning they'll have to come eat dinner with us or they won't eat dinner at all LOL)

I'm not counting on being completely kid-free the entire week either. Let's see... they can't be in the club/lab until Sunday night (since first night is only with us with them and no- we're not going to split us up and go spend a large amount of time WITH THEM in the club/lab. no thanks to that). We intended on being with them at each port and CC. So basically we're talking only at sea days in the club/lab (2 days) and some evenings... but only after show/dinner (see above about how they can't eat with the club/lab for dinner as we thought they could ... because then they'd miss the show every night). So 2 days at sea... a couple of late evenings after dinner. I wouldn't call that expecting to be kid-free the entire week. :)

Our first cruise DD was 7 DS was 4, they ate with us 2 nights and not because we didn't want them, they wanted to do what was happening at camp, be with the kids there age and have fun, we asked them about shows, always gave them a choice as it is there vacation too but never forced them to do anthing and they loved there vacation.

I was "guilted" into getting something for Jay by my children. We were at the store and Jordan asked what I was getting Daddy...and I said "Nothing". WELL....she just thought that meant we didn't love each other. So to prove it, I bought him two huge boxes of calories.

As Mike and I are seriously trying to lose weight and be healthier, he'd probably clobber me if I got him a huge box of calories. Hey, I'll just say the Total Gym is his gift. :)

Hey, is anybody watching the Olympics? Is anyone else really bored with speed skating? I'm not finding boarding all that exciting either. Yeah, they go high up, and they do some spins up there, but big woop. Nice that the US team did so well, though I think it's kind of an American sport. Kevin was watching curling today, he couldn't believe that one.

We have been watching too.

Thats where she would slap you and say: "Put down the curlers and go play ball!!!" :rolleyes1

Although, in his defense, clobbering me would burn calories, eh?

I just think nothin' says lovin' like making sure your husband always weighs more than you do.

So, there is a whole family of "bottomless cupcakes" out there???? :thumbsup2

I guess that's better than Pineapple Upsidedown Cake!:upsidedow

Well, it's been fun, but I'm outta here. My eyes ache. And yes, I looked at the blue and purple dots going around....thanks Kevin.

Hey! Sounds like my life except we homeschool! So I don't get the benefit of sending my kids anywhere all day.
Not really true. A 1 1/2 weeks ago I rushed my dh to the ER because we thought he was having a stroke (turns out no, but in all the scans they've found lots of other things wrong) ....after I dropped him off, I took the kids to a friends house, so I did have the day without the kids. ;)
I will say I am lucky my parents live in the same state so at least they will take the kids for a week here and there and give me time off. It's not nearly close enough that I could drop them off so dh and I could do dinner, or I could get some shopping done without the kids, but it's something.

Wow...sounds like me! I'm pretty frugal too....which is why we save for the Disney cruises b/c, although I'm frugal, I'm willing to spend money if I'm going to "get what I pay for." I hate spending money and getting crap...at least with Disney they provide an excellent service for my dime. Do I wish it was cheaper....sure...cuz then I'd go more often!!

Dh had to convince me to TRY a cruise....
I said the ONLY way I'd try it was if it was Disney....and even then I was NOT excited about it at all....
#1, I get motion sick in the passenger seat of a car, on amusement park rides, watching certain Playstation games, in any sized boat, etc etc. On my dad's boat my strategy was to take Dramamine....which put me to sleep....and then I'd get a horrible sunburn!
#2, I HATE HATE HATE....salt water and I HATE HATE HATE sand.
#3, I am not a big drinker, partyer, gambler, dancer, etc (which my sister IS and she LOVES cruises....so I figured anything she liked would SO not fit me)
#4, I HATE getting dressed up (a requirement for dinner)
#5, I did NOT want to give up a WDW vacation for a cruise......our first cruise was a 4 day.....with 9 days at WDW afterwards. As we left the ship we were ALL crying. We did NOT want to get off. My dd (8 at the time) said if DCL would let her stay on the ship for just FOUR more days, she'd be willing to give up her NINE days at WDW!!!

Since May of 2003 we've been on....a 4 day, a 3 day, a 4 day, a 7 day, a 10 day, a 4 day, a 7 day, and this will be a 7 day! Uh....I think we're hooked! :)

We do sound a lot alike! I looked at the website to see the ages of your children and did we already discuss how close they are in age? My son will be with your son- my daughter is the same age as your daughter (almost same age- probably the same age in maturity though... even though mine is older LOL). How cool!

I was okay with the price. Obviously since it's more expensive than other cruises but going on another cruise never even crossed my mind- for a second. But like you-- I only like to spend if I get what I pay for. And with things not working out that we KNEW we wanted to do- ofcourse as first time cruisers/etc. I'm not so sure for US we'll get what we were paying for. We'll see. LOL

On the rest:
#1- we're not alike on that one but DH is that way! LOL He doesn't really like spinning/etc. type rides and only likes RnR because it's dark so he doesn't realize he's going upside down... I however don't have a weak stomach or motion sickness at all.
#2- I'm not fond of salt water, sand or beaches. I don't know why, I'm just not. I'm not all that fond of laying out to tan or relax or what have you either. I like to DO stuff... like here the only time I'm out in a swimsuit is at a water park, swimming, or on a boat fishing and such. (but I don't like getting in lakes very far from shore- definitely not off a boat in the middle of the lake or anything like that. LOL) I'm a bit freaked out about sea lice and jelly fish bites and the like too. LOL
#3- Not a drinker here at all- but I'm sure I'd imbibe a little if I ever not with my kids! Yanno? We drank maybe once or twice a year pre-children... like on 4th of July and NYE is about it. LOL I'm not a gambler either (ie: Las Vegas is not a trip I'd like to take) but I do like bingo. Weird huh? LOL I wouldn't spend much doing bingo either though- back to that frugal thing. LOL We used to go out dancing a LOT before having kids... so many years ago... but it was all C&W dancing (ie: dancing to country music here in Texas ofcourse LOL) and that's probably not going to happen on the cruise. Even if it did- we wouldn't be dressed for it.. we're not bringing our jeans and boots and such. LOL
#4- I'm not fond of dressing up either but I think for me that is mostly because A) when you're overweight it's hard to feel like you look good so why bother spending a lot on a nice dress/etc. when you still don't feel like you look good? and b) not a whole lot of opportunity to dress up around here... even church is more laidback -although I do wear dresses there. And we never go out anywhere the KIDS can't go with us... so therefore not dressy fancy smancy places with the need to really dress up. LOL I WANT to dress up and look nice... hence the reason I'm back on my diet so I can get back to where I was about 2yrs ago after I lost a lot of weight. I liked dressing up more back then when I was thinner. LOL (plus I want to fit those clothes I bought for the original cruise, when I was much thinner, and never wore them because the cruise got postponed and now I can't fit one thigh in these clothes! LOL)
#5- ditto... LOL

Well not exactly alike- but a LOT alike. :)

All the talk last night about planning/over-planning/expectations and disappointments has made me VERY glad that we have made a new plan for this vacation... which is PLAN NOTHING!!!!

As a compulsive planner, that's virtually impossible for me, but we are going with the thought in mind to make no definite plans (except for Palo, provided that we can get a time), and be spontaneous for a change. We know that it means no DCL excursions, (personally, I think just about all cruiseline excursions are highway robbery anyway), but we are soooo in need of an 'unplanned' 7 days after the past 6 months of craziness that we have had.

We'll bring the snorkel gear, and if we DO make it to Cozumel, we'll head over to Chakanaab by cab at our leisure and hang out for the day there... if not, we'll find something to do wherever we end up.

That said, I think we all have different ideas of what our vacations should be like... and if they don't meet up to the expectations we set for ourselves before setting sail, there will be disappointment... there's no right or wrong answer here... just different ways of looking at the same 7 days. We ALL want to have a great time and make lots of good memories- we just don't all do it the same way.
whew I m glad I am not the only one! LOL We have nothing planned except to play it by ear :cool1:

BBB - I understand your frustration. As a compulsive planner, I like know what we are scheduled for. We don't cruise often and this is a big trip for us. Our last cruise was 4 years ago and I don't foresee any more since I have one I will be sending him and my money to College in a few years. However, what happens will happen and I guess we will just have to have fun any old way we can, which is pretty easy on a cruise ship as nice as Disney.

Anyway, hang in there and I am sure everything will work out for the best!
Shelly,
I just wanted to reiterate what Pam said in the last line:thumbsup2 Having never been on DCL before I think once you are there, you will see the go with the flow attitude that just sneaks up on you, once you are on board. It is quite lovely...
