For awhile, I was buying an crockpot cookbook in the check-out aisle every time one was issued - I'm not a big fan of beef stew - so, I was looking for other creative ideas...

I have the "Fix it and Forget It" book....

I can't believe it's got so many recipes for the SAME thing. Do we REALLY need 57 recipes for chili?

yeah! a TOP with Monica and FOOD! :)

you guys are the salsa, tortilla family, aren't you?

wondering how my kids will do with so much spicy. They aren't big fans of it. But I don't think they are big fans of starving to death either!! :lmao:

John, Mike and I love spicier foods - but, usually I will throw in the mild jar - and it's really not to spicey, especially the green salsa...I cook other things but, that's the two that I can recall from memory, kids will eat, and makes a ton so we can eat leftovers all week...

mom just sent me a chicken gumbo receipe of Emeril's he modified for the crock-pot, I'll have to grab it when I'm downstairs...

Cinci chili isn't really all that spicy either (I'll ask John what his proportions are...)...I will probably be shot by other Texans, but I prefer it over Tex-mex chili - I got hooked on it at BG - and also had a girlfriend from Cincinnati - so, I'd also get Skyline every once in awhile...yum!

Crock pot favorite:
Tortellini junk (I don't know what the real name is)

Brown 1 - 2 lbs ground Italian sausage, place in crockpot with:
1 bag frozen tortellini
1 lg. jar spaghetti sauce
1 small jar mushrooms (obviously can leave these out if you don't like them)

Let cook all day. Fifteen minutes before serving, top with shredded mozzerella cheese. Yum.

I'm going to go try on my pirate wench costume. It had better fit.....anything bigger, and I may as well just wrap myself in a pirate ship sail! pirate: :boat:

     Let's just say, it's going to need some modifications. princess: pirate:

Made that last week - I agree it was good!

Crockpot recipes ... here are the two that I do ...

Roast Beef
Season however you want. I usually stuff with garlic, salt & pepper.
Put in the crockpot w/ sliced onion, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms & two cans of beef gravy. Let cook all day or overnight on low.

Ribs
Put ribs in crockpot with a bottle of bar-b-que sauce. Let cook on low all day.

Well....we're all on the WISH thread, and here we are exchanging recipes! And they all sound sooooooo good!

Ang....I've not added the gravy to a roast ahead of time like that, how does it come out??

I guess we must have scared the men away with our cooking talk...although I don't know why...they are ALL the best cooks we know!! ::yes:: ::yes::

It's so good. The roast just falls apart.

Just curious - did you add any water when you cooked without the gravy?

I just figured out why the men aren't talking....because none of them would stoop to using a crock pot! ;)

I'd like to have someone's crockpot chili recipe. I've never made that before.

Monica, find that gumbo recipe for me. Being a cajun girl, I usually like Emeril's recipes.

Yes...I add water...I'm afraid NOT to.....and then I use the juices to make gravy.

I've hit another milestone in my recovery process. I've completely given up all pain-relief drugs - that includes the Extra-strength Tylenol. I was looking forward to going out & enjoying my first alcoholic beverage in over 3 months but we had bingo at the elementary school instead.

:cheer2: A T.O.P. for my milestone! :cheer2:

It's a good thing I had a big dinner tonight and am no longer hungry!

I don't use a specific recipe for chili. I just brown some beef and toss it in with a couple of cans of chili beans, some diced tomatoes (using the juice from the cans of beans and tomatoes as liquid) toss some chili powder in there.....and maybe some sliced black olives and/or garbonza beans......let it simmer all day.

Remember... your tolerance will be MUCH lower after 3 months of pain killers and no alcohol!!!! You'll be a cheap drunk for awhile!
