She needs to be at the High School for a Band Solo & Ensemble Rating Session. She plays the flute and this will be her first time to be "evaluated". This must start once they are in Middle School. I am sure the Band Parents on this thread can clue me in on what to expect.

Hi Sharon -- been through this a number of times now with my oldest, my youngest had her first just a couple of weeks ago. If they do it there like they do here, her band teacher will give her a perfomance time. THey usually run in 1 hour time slots and about 8 kids per hour. She will be in the room with all the kids and accompaniests (if they have them there) and they all take a turn at performing. The judge will then talk to each of them and tell them what they did well and what they might have not done so well on. They will usually have the scores posted within an hour.

They seem to be a little more lenient on the 6th graders. It gets much more difficult when they get to High School. HOpe this helps

Yeah a toppirate:

oooohhhhhhhhhh......You little pirate:, Pam!!!!

Cruise Related Topic here -- I am meeting with the vendor today regarding the bags and shirts. Do we still want to include Cozumel??? It is looking more and more like we won't be going there. If we wait until April to place the order, maybe we will actually know something by then. Please give opinions.

Looks like OM had a nice little gag all set up but got busted by Pam and the 40 second rule. :rotfl:

Tough call. We could get to April and still not know. Can you find out what the absolute cut-off date would be? Maybe we could go from there. If we do find out Cozumel gets cut it would be kind of cute to include it but crossed out.

Well, DS will be doing trumpet solo in 6 weeks as a 5th grader. I know he'll be very nervous, but think the experience will be great. I told him I'd accompany him on piano, but I haven't practiced one bit and am not sure that I'll be good enough. He asked our minister's wife (she teaches piano), and she said she'd do it, but they just put her dad into hospice care. I hate to bother her with anything right now. I'll just start practicing and wait and see what happens.

I agree that it's a tough call. Whatever is on the bags/t-shirts will still be a great souvenier of the cruise, no matter what the ultimate destinations. I'll go with what everyone else decides.

on top of that, thin slices of fresh mozzarella (i found it in the cheese section, in a container, packed with water...it's a lot softer than regular mozzarella):)

That's called "fresh Mozzarella". It's very, very good. A little tougher to cut, too.

Okay, it looks like nephew Nick will be on the cruise. Last hurdle is his Dad. My bil is a good guy but might miss his son too much. My sis talked with Nick's 3rd grade teacher and since he has missed very few days the 6 won't be too bad. Nick will be 9 in March and is a sheltered fellow. So add another 9yo boy. Guess I had better look at the children's stuff!

COOL! A 9 yr old Nick for my 9 yr old Nick!!! :) :lmao:

BBB, haven't heard from you today. Hope all went well at the school. I've got experience with both the school systems and kids with problems, so if you want to PM, feel free. :) :grouphug:

Thank you for the link, I will be sending it to my sis. And I hope your Nick will show my Nick the 'ropes'.

:scared: OMG! We are in 7138, aft! Don't give them any ideas, like climbing from the aft sun deck to ours. It was fun seeing the expressions on faces when they looked around the partition and saw us sitting there.

Met with the vendor and looked at samples of the shirts. I at first thought I would like the 50/50 better. However, after seeing both of the shirts, the 100% cotton is a much nicer shirt. It is heavier, but will breath better than the one with the polyester. They are pre-shrunk so that is good as well. The Polo shirts are also very nice. I think Diana wanted to know if they came in Women's. This particular brand is a unisex, so the answer to that is no. We talked to Maria as well and I think Maria might have some more to add to this conversation.

We are putting in the drop-dead order date of April 15. She will then have the bags and shirts ready to ship out on May 1. I gave her a sample order form, however, I left some things off, so she is redoing it and will send it to me. We will need to make some definite decisions on the shirts though before final price can be determined. Anything more than 2 color will increase the price. I believe she said there would be an extra screen charge of $20 for each additional color, plus an extra .50 cents per color, per shirt.

The base prices with 2 colors will be around $6.50 for the t-shirts and around $13.50 for the Polos. For those that need plus sizes, add the following to the cost 2x = +$2, 3X = +$3 and 4X = +$4.

Hope this helps

Speaking of mmmmmmmmmmmm

i just had a BEAUTIFUL lunch....

one tomato...sliced
on top of that, thin slices of fresh mozzarella (i found it in the cheese section, in a container, packed with water...it's a lot softer than regular mozzarella)
sprinkled with dry basil (wanted fresh, but store didn't have it)
drizzled with olive oil.

it felt so gourmet to eat that for lunch at home and not on a cruise or something. :)

That is one of our every night dishes. We love it. The other night I started with a grilled portabello mushroom, topped with wilted spinach, topped with tomato, topped with mozzarella cheese, topped with basil, topped with olive oil, topped with basomic ving. topped with black pepper, italian seasons.

That makes a great side dish.

Pam - All your hard work and Maria also, make my little dinner spreadsheet seem so easy!

Thank you!
