The excercise room is bigger than DCL's....maybe not now, since the Magic increased theirs. The couple of times we were up there, there were always a ton of people working out. Sick....excercise while on vacation! ;)
Cool!! Hey, I love that! Means you can eat more at dinner and not gain 20# before the cruise is over! :earseek:

Cute fishies, Kevin. Methinks someone has far too much time on their hands!

You're right! Not me though, I stole it fair and square..... :rotfl2:

Thursday....our last day at sea...

We both slept late. We barely got out the door in time for the cooking show they had before the galley tour. We've always wanted to do the galley tour on the Magic, but there was always a conflict.
The head chef and the head waiter did a cooking demonstration, and I was afraid it was going to be boring, but they were really funny. They did give recipes, but we didn't have a pen and a piece of paper (and wouldn't have been able to find one anywhere!) but I was glad that they gave them to us later.
The galley is amazing. Stainless steel from floor to ceiling. And huge. At the end of the tour, they had carvings and sculptures that they had made. What amazed me was that with all the cooking they have to do, they had time to do the carvings. Had my picture taken with the chef and head waiter:

Jay and I were having a couples massage later in the day, so after the galley tour we decided to just tour the ship some more and take pictures. We walked past one of the swimming pools and I spotted Bobby sitting at the edge of the pool with two of the gals with our group. Both women are in their 60's, both are grandmothers, both are widows who were left with a few pennies...and have spent some of those pennies having extensive "work" done:
th_IMG_2518.jpg

I may have just stumbled on a way to blackmail all of us into a free cruise next year!
I found out later that one of these sweet old grandma's ended up so soused at the pool that she laid down on the deck, her bikini top basically fell off to one side, and she (at one point or another) invited Bobby to her room. I know that "what goes in Vegas, stays in Vegas".....but...does that apply to cruises, too??

Our tour continued around the pool area, and I took a shot of one of the mosaics on the wall:

th_IMG_2534.jpg

And we went up and found the miniature golf .....

th_IMG_2561.jpg

There's also a cyber-golf room at the front of the ship.
Another thing that was pretty cool, was that the kids' club area also includes a small pool, and an enclosed outdoor play area. It's enclosed with fencing, floor to ceiling, so that the kids couldn't get out, and no one could get in...but they have fresh air to play in.

Jay had never had a massage before, and wasn't incredibly comfortable in the little robe he wore while he filled out his health form. He must be the first person (that I have personally known, anyway) who actually read the entire form. Our massage therapists came out 3 times, checking to see if he was done with it, and ready for the massage. And he was funny.....he kept asking "Now what?" "Now what?".....he was at least quiet during the massage, and didn't fall asleep and snore...or make any other obnoxious noises.....

Formal night....they had arranged for a group photo in the lobby (which is being mailed to us)...at 5 pm, even though dinner wasn't until 8:30. Now I know how Mark & Mary felt at the wine party in their finery!
When we got to the lobby, Andrea, the manager of the casino onboard, was there helping to get people in place, and figuring out where the photographer should stand. Having had a bit of experience with this type of thing, I whispered to Andrea that she should send him up on the first balcony, overlooking the lobby. Voila!
Andrea had told me and one of the other gals from the Mirage group ( a real sweetie named Liz ) that she wanted the two of us and our hubbies to stand in the front, in the center. Liz & Bob were one of the only other couples who stayed at the slot tournament the night before to cheer the winners on...and they are the nicest people. We really enjoyed their company.
So while Liz and I were standing there, the group of (merry) widows and their host, Dianne, arrived. Their clothing was unbelievable. Pretty, bright colors like turquoise and pink (which was really pretty...) but....they all matched....most were strapless (and darn near topless).....and they wanted the front row. And Liz and I weren't giving it up. I figured Andy wanted us there, so we were staying. These women never said a word to us directly, they still got in the front row, but they were separated (gasp!). So they yelled back and forth across Liz & I at eachother. Things like "We should all be together"...."You're the shortest, Mildred, you should be in the middle"........well, Liz & I still weren't moving, and if they had said something to me directly, I would have told them that Andy put us there. We were asked to stand sideways, but these gals took up twice the space by standing totally front-facing, shoulder to shoulder. At one point, the one next to me turned around to look for someone, and when she did, I took a step forward, and reclaimed the space that she and her friends had been trying to squeeze me out of. After the pictures were taken, they were in a huddle with Dianne, buzzing like a bunch of bees......and shooting me evil looks. Just like high school! Oh well....sticks and stones.....LOL
Should be an interesting picture, if I ever get one.

After the group portrait, we went to the Captain's reception. We hadn't seen him around the ship much at all, so we went to meet him. They were announcing a few couples who were onboard that had sailed with Princess the most often. Two couples had sailed more than 40 times. One had wracked up a total of 368 days at sea, although not consecutive...I hope.

We had a group cocktail party in the Wheelhouse Lounge, which is think was my favorite because of its nautical decor. The band was good, so we stayed and danced. There was a couple in our group who were our age, and had brought their two year old daughter, Jordyn. We thought it was funny that our girls had the same name (different spellings) and the mom's name was Tracey. Both Mom and Dad looked pretty worn out by the end of the cruise, though. She was a really good little girl, but a typical two. Very active! Jordyn and her daddy stayed and danced too.

Jay & I were early for dinner for a change...we'd been dressed for hours. We sat at our usual table for 8, and waited. And waited. There were a few people at some of the other reserved tables, but our area was basically deserted. No one else in Bobby's group showed up for the last dinner together. Not even Bobby. I was ticked. If I had known that no one was coming, we could have gone to dinner earlier by ourselves.
And I was double-ticked because they were playing a game in the Wheelhouse that we were missing. It's a lot like "Match Your Mate"....called the Marriage Gameshow, but everyone gets to play, rather than just 3 couples.
After dinner, I went upstairs to change. They were building a champagne waterfall in the Atrium at 11:30, and Jay thought we should stay dressed up, but I was still ticked, and I have no idea why I thought changing clothes would make me feel better.....turned out, he was right. I should have left my nice clothes on. After they built the waterfall out of champagne glasses, they asked for all the ladies to come up, one by one, and help pour the champagne down it. And they took individual photos as you did it. Well......didn't I look nice standing there with the Maitre d'Hotel in his tuxedo, and me in my excercise pants that look like jammies????

And so, another day came to a close. Why is it that the first day or two seemed like five, and the rest of them go by in a flash??

I was really feeling guilty for not doing any packing on that last day at sea. But my reasoning (this is my story, and I'm sticking to it) was that we had sent out a bunch of laundry that wasn't back yet, and I just couldn't pack anything until I had it ALL together so I could organize it better. Yep...uh huh...that's my story....

But I didn't sleep as well as I should have that night...feeling guilty about the packing (or lack of) and also still being a little ticked.........some of you know how much I LOVE that game show....I really wanted to play it!!

The day's movies were:
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Back to the Future
Shall We Dance
Mr & Mrs Smith
The Interpreter
Wedding Date
War of the Worlds

Motown night in Club Fusion
80's & 90's in Skywalkers
Caribbean Caliente in the Princess theater

Most of the daily activities were the same each day, with the times changing around.
They had the really nice fluffy comforters on the beds, too....I just love those. Wish I could get one, but all the ones I've seen are white....and expensive.

But NO TOWEL ANIMALS......EVER! :confused3

One thing they did do, that I thought was cool...they gave us a copy of the ship's log. It has some really interesting info in it. It explained (though we didn't know it at the time) that we took a different course than usual down to St Thomas, because of bad weather on the usual route. It even told about being late to leave St Maarten, because some passengers missed the ship. They never did show up. Very cool to read.

Did you know that right now, for this Double Dip cruise, the price of a Cat 4 is only $180.00 LESS than what we paid for the Cat 3?? Prices have gone up, that's for sure.

Well, you've already heard about Princess Cays....we had asked for a "wake up" call of coffee to the room that wasn't necessary. We were directly under the first life boat that they lowered to use as a tender! LOL

We were told while we were at the beach at PC that all of the Mirage people needed to have their bags in the hallway before we went to dinner that night!
That made it a little more complicated. For one thing, we still didn't have our laundry back. Plus...whatever we wore to dinner would have to go into our carry on bag with our pajamas and toothbrushes, etc. Not to mention that I always pack my curling iron and makeup. So much for looking good for the flight home, and trip back to the Mirage!
I briefly thought about going to dinner early, and then putting the bags out, but by 6:00 or so, there were already bags in the hallway. I felt guilty, so we packed first. Luckily, while we were getting the bags out, the laundry came. All of the clothes...shirts, pants, shorts...were on hangers. Darn...I was soooo hoping they would be folded! And all the undies and socks were just stuffed in a paper bag. When I sent laundry out (the only other time I've done it) at the Polynesian, the undies came back, folded neatly, in little boxes. Go figure. But then, I bet alot of us sent clothes out, more than they might normally have, because they offered us free laundry, something usually only available to people who have cruised Princess more than 16 times.
It did feel nice, though, to go to dinner and relax, knowing the bags were all done, and all we had to do was relax for the rest of the night. On Disney, I'm always running around the room at a quarter to 11.....not enjoying the last night at all.
The group met at Skywalker's for drinks, but we were packing, so we missed it.
It was a casual night, and they were serving mostly Creole in the buffet, so we headed up there. Had to say goodbye to our friend the Maitre'd.
Then we went down to the casino, they were holding a drawing for credit on our Player's cards for when we returned to the Mirage. (You use it on the slots and at the tables the same as cash). They drew 6 names, and not one of them was mine! LOL I really stink at drawings!!
It came time to say goodbye to Andrea, and the other two people that we had gotten friendly with, Charlie from Scotland and Ioan...my friend from Romania.
Jay had left by now...can't stand the smoke.....so Ioan and I were talking, and he told me that he was a "New Start"...had just started on the ship recently. He missed his family....he was only 24. He told me how badly he wanted to come to the U.S. and work, though. He asked me if we would sponsor him for a Visa to work here, and then he started to cry. I lost it, right then and there. I thought about how sad it was that there were so many people in the world who would love to have the freedom that we have......and unlike some of the people we see crossing our borders here, he would be willing to pay taxes to our government and work hard. It was just sad. I told him that we had a friend who used to work for us, until his Visa expired, from Germany. It would cost us thousands to bring him here, with no guarantee that he'd get to stay. It was so hard to tell him no, and then walk away. I know that there will be some skeptics who would say that I'm a fool for even listening to him...maybe it was a pitch that he repeats at every cruise...but I honestly felt that he was being genuine. Either way, I felt bad....and didn't turn to look back when I walked out.

There was a farewell show in the Princess theater, bringing back the singers, dancers and comedians from the week.
The movies of the day were:
Herbie Fully Loaded
Hitch
Shrek
Madagascar
Mr & Mrs Smith
Wedding Date
Batman Begins
Miss Congeniality 2 which we did sit and watch part of, though we'd seen it already.

It seemed like they had a pretty good mix of movies. Nothing too heavy....and not all kid's shows.

I didn't find out until later that we could have had our bags shipped directly to our house. I wish I'd had the foresight to do this.

When the ship docked, people were told to be out of their rooms by 7:00 am, and they had numbers called for disembarkation. There were people standing in the halls with their bags, in the lounges...everywhere.
We didn't have to leave our room until 9:00....just about the time they started calling the first groups. We had breakfast in the room, watched as the bags were unloaded from the ship...and then went to the Wheelhouse Lounge, the designated waiting area for us. I wouldn't have ordered room service if I'd known they were going to have a spread for us there. I should have figured they would. Coffee, juice, tea, water, danish, muffins, bagels, milk and cold cereals, fruit......really nice. And again...I felt guilty because we had all that, and there were people standing for hours waiting to get off.
They called our number, and we left the ship and went to the baggage claim area.....basically a huge warehouse, no signs...just bags placed in groups on the floor. Two of ours were next to eachother, the other one was on the other side of the room. Thank goodness they are easy to spot....they are royal purple!
We had to grab our own bags (could have gotten a porter, but we didn't need one) and head to customs. The customs guy asked me what I bought and where I bought it. Other than St Barth, there wasn't much....so he waved us out, and we headed for the motor coach to take us to the airport.
There were quite a few East coast people who took taxi's and flew home from Florida, rather than go all the way back to Las Vegas.
We thought we were all loaded and ready to go. We waited and waited....there were 4 people missing. No surprise...when Jay and I and another couple walked out of the terminal, we asked a guy who was directing people where the Mirage group was.....and he pointed to the parking garage! We repeated "MIR age" a couple of times, and gave up. Then we saw the busses.
Finally found everyone and we got to the airport. We had to wait, we were the last bus to arrive, and they were still wanding and checking in the others. Then the electronic gate that was to let us in broke. It was hot, and the air on the bus wasn't working. The natives were getting restless.
Finally they got the gate opened, but our driver just sat there. Eventually, his cell phone rang...it was one of the other drivers asking him why he wasn't driving in. He said "Because they didn't wave me through". OMG....ROFLOL......they were working on the gate...they HAD opened it for us...my guess is they figured since they opened it, he would be smart enough to know he could go through.
WELL....not too many of the Mirage people thought this was as funny as I did. Some were hollering at the driver.
Once parked by the plane (this time Frontier Airlines) we were told again that they'd take us off in groups of 4. Jay & I and another couple were the first four....but we were being stampeded by the people in the back. The grandma widows had been right behind us, and they were trying to crowd forward. And I'm thinking "Where do they think they're going?" We all leave at the same time. Geesh.
Jay & I were given our seat assignments....row 4 or so....a window and an aisle, just like on the way down...we had some room to stretch.
There were individual TVs in the back of each seat with DirecTv on them. 60+ channels to choose from, plus movies.....very cool.
That's when the fun really began.............

Seated behind us was a guy who was about my age, and his girlfriend, who was maybe 25...if that. I'd been in the elevator with them at the Mirage before we even left for the cruise, and overheard the girl on the cell phone with her mother, who was (rightly) FURIOUS that the girl was going on a cruise, out of the country, with this "old" man. The girl basically told her mother what she could do with her opinion, and gave her mother some choice ideas on how she could entertain herself.....very very bad words....if you get my drift. I had no idea at the time that they were going on the cruise. They were friends with two other couples who were invited. If I'd known they needed to fill space, I could've brought better friends than that!
Anyway, the guy and girl ended up being in someone else's seat. They were supposed to have the window and center, and a lady who was traveling with a friend was supposed to be on the aisle, with her friend across from her on the other aisle.
All heck broke loose. This guy did NOT want to move. He wanted the aisle. He couldn't get it through his head that this was a smaller plane, and some people had to share. And they sat the other gal and her friend across from eachother so they could talk if they wanted to. And HE wasn't really even an invited guest.
He told her he wasn't moving, and she said "Yes, you are...this is MY seat and I'm sitting in it". He told her he would make her flight miserable by climbing over her at every opportunity. And he did. He climbed out every 15 minutes, pulling on the back of my chair each time.....until I told Bobby and Bobby had a word with him. After that, the clown fell asleep.
Meanwhile, in the back of the plane a similar incident was happening. Man & wife don't want to share. So that man was hollering obscenities. He had said "Get this ******* woman out of here" "Get her the **** out".....on and on and on. The poor woman, who had simply sat where she was told, was in tears. They moved her.
We'd been in the air maybe an hour, when I got up to stretch. I had already told the flight attendants that I'd come visit them a lot, because I can't sit still that long. I was standing up there as they were discussing calling security at the nearest airport, and the sky marshals. The same dirty mouth man in the back was being abusive to the flight attendants. And so was his friend across the aisle. Demanding drinks, then complaining about everything, and every other word was nasty. And, they were getting drunk.
The flight attendants told me that they do charters for stars and musicians all the time, and they'd never had anyone behave that badly....except one....they said the actor Andy Garcia was rude.
I talked to them for quite a while....sort of explaining about this spoiled group. I told them which guys on the plane were in charge of the group, and let them know to speak to them if there was any more problem. I told them to just pull rank and cut these jerks off the liquor. I pointed to Bobby and said "If they give you any trouble, get this guy".
After that, the flight attendants would stop by my seat and offer more drinks (Pepsi!) and water, snacks...blankets, whatever. And I made sure (triple sure) that I said "Thank you so much" every time.
As we got off the plane in Vegas, one attendant pointed to a private plane and said "That belongs to --------"....but I didn't hear what name she said. Now I'm curious whose it was. Two of the attendants stopped me at the door and said "Thank you for your kindness". Jay asked me what that was about, but I signaled that I'd tell him later. He'd slept through most of it.
I was on a plane once where Security came and removed a guy who joked about a bomb....before we took off. But I've never been on one where they talked about landing the plane under those circumstances.
Makes me wonder if the Mirage will do it again. It may not have been worth it.

Oh! I forgot something....the last night on the ship, we had to go online and change our flight back to Phoenix from Vegas. They had told us that there was no way we'd get our bags soon enough for a 6 pm flight home, even though we landed around 2 pm.
The reason was because we didn't go into the regular air terminal. We got off the plane on the runway, straight onto the busses back to the Mirage.
So I moved our flight out a couple of hours.
We were given a room to stretch out in once we got to the hotel. Jay took a nap....surprised me, he'd slept a good 3 of the 5 hours home....
But we had a snack, he went to the room and I stayed downstairs, played a little and said good bye to some of the people we'd met...like Liz & Bob.
When we were leaving the hotel to go to the airport, we stopped at the Bell Desk to have our bags taken to the limo. We got out there and waited forever. I was beginning to think we'd miss even the later flight.
Turns out that they had taken all of our bags in a U-Haul type truck to the back loading dock and were just starting to deliver them to our rooms. Our bags were in the hotel somewhere, waiting to be taken to a room that we had just checked out of! About this time is when I wished I'd had Princess ship my bags home.
I was impressed with the fella who ran inside and said "I'll go find them".....after we'd waited forever initially, he showed up with them in less than 10 minutes.
We made it to the airport in time for them to check the bags...that was the first major relief...that, and the fact that none of them were overweight......and we got upstairs with time to spare. Until we discovered that we were two of the "Chosen Few" who get pulled aside to be checked and wanded. And these people were in no particular hurry. You don't dare say a word, though.
We ran up to the gate as they were starting to call for stand-bys. Barely made it.
But we did.
Why is it that the travel part always makes you wonder if the trip was really worth it?
Yet another reason to move to Florida, if you like to cruise.

Good morning cruisers!

Happy Tuesday!

Stacey - thanks for the great trip report!

Sandy & Karen (OM) stay safe today.

Sounds like some nasty storms will be cutting through southern Illinois and into the Ohio Valley.

Hi all!

I had a really bad day yesterday which really sucked since it was my birthday (my last 30-something birthday). I was in bed most of the day very weak. I'll try to spare all of the details but I wound up constipated & had to take meds. That left me totally wiped out & weak - almost like I had a stomach bug. AWFUL!

We ordered Chinese take-out and my parents bought a birthday cake. I was a little disappointed in the cake since she had said that she was going to bake a cake. Oh well!

I'm so ready for my mom to be gone. She doesn't listen to me and does what she wants to do even though I've asked her not to. Yesterday she came in to my room and said that she had seen some baskets at Wal-mart. She was going to "organize" my spice shelf and put the bottles in the baskets. That makes no sense at all since the spice shelft is at my shoulder level and I can easily access anything in it. And if everything is in baskets then I've got to pull down a baskets of 6+ bottles ... that would be heavy. I politely told her NOT to buy the baskets and NOT to do anything with that shelf. DH came home for lunch and asked if I had seen what my mom did. I went to the kitchen & told her that she didn't listen to me and to undo it all!!! She also bought steaks to cook for dinner when I told her on Sun. that we were going to order Chinese take-out for dinner!!! UGH!!!

Kiki, sorry to hear about your Christmas plans. I have a feeling that we'll be here alone for Christmas ... the first time EVER for me. The girls have never spent Christmas in GA either. I saw something on NCB's weekend morning show the other day about a contest to have a decorator come decorate a room in your house for the holidays. I'm thinking about entering since I can't do it this year and DH is pretty bah-humbug. Anyone creative want to help me come up with a 200 word essay to submit????

Hope everyone has a wonderful Tues.!
Ang

Angie - sorry to hear that yesterday was such a bad day - especially since it was your birthday!

Here's a belated cake. :cake: Sorry it isn't home made. Hope today is a better day!

revised western itinerary changes are posted through May 20 - I wonder if we'll be the 1st group back to Cozumel...hmmm, only time will tell! One thing for sure, Costa Maya will be throughly researched and reported on by the time it's our turn.

Happy Birthday, Angie....the darn plane was late again!

You can be Princess for a Day TODAY....
