OK...my hubby says that he could use a break from all this construction and hard work. Yeah for me. We really weren't going to go on a big vacation this year because of the construction, but I think he's really getting burnt out.

We were thinking about coming down to the Sunshine State for a little R&R. Anybody going to be around the Orlando area the first week of December(3rd-10th?). We were thinking about staying at our Marriott timeshare. We would love to have a mini-meet with whoever is around at that time.

I'm hoping (keeping my fingers crossed) that the kids won't have to make up already used snow days in Feb. (Pres. day weekend) and that I'll be feeling better by then. IF I am, I may hit DH up for a quick weekend to DW. We were supposed to head home to LA for Mardi Gras but I think that'll be limited now. Anyone ever been Pres. day weekend? How bad are the crowds???

I know that 12/10 is our big 'more-the-merrier' Christmas party at our house... but you'll probably be headed home on that day... ... but I really want to get over to MK at least once before Christmas... and I want to hit DTD for some Christmas shopping... so another good excuse to get over there is always welcome!!!

Here is the current update on power in SE FL:

While an assessment of damage to our electrical system will continue over the next several days, customers should expect to get their power back as follows:

• Restoration of service to customers north of Brevard County has been completed and power is expected to be restored by tonight to virtually all customers in the west coast areas of Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties as well as Brevard County on the east coast.
• In all other areas, power should be restored to the majority of customers within two weeks -- November 8. Some 95 percent of customers in these areas should have power restored within three weeks -- by November 15. Many customers will have power restored well before these estimated dates; the announced dates represent when the very last customers will get their electric service back.

Good news! I would expect the assessment is showing less damage to the infrastructure than they feared. It is tedious, but they have to check everything or risk making more damage by turning it back on, better safe than sorry.

I talked to a few people in that area today and the news has not been good.
All power lines down (that area does not have many underground lines due to the high water table), all traffic signals down, no gasoline.

I talked to someone who waited 7 hours in line for 2 bags of ice. High rise office buildings with all their windows blown out.

It is a bigger mess than everyone thought.

I did something new and exciting today. Ok, not so exciting, maybe I'm ready for a vacation too. Anyway, I signed up for an every other week box of produce from a local organic farm. Picked up the first order today, it all looks yummy. May have to hold the kid down and force some fruit into her mouth. "It's good, really, just give it a chance".

I guess Irene is not in one of those areas that will be getting power tonight?

Karen I will definitely keep you in mind. Hubby's not home yet, Union meeting and that usually means having to taste some Bud-wise-r at the bar afterwards. Yes, Karen, that is truly my DH's choice of beer, being a Union man and all. When he comes home, I will barrage him with all my info that I was collecting on the computer way into the night last night. I'm looking at coming down on the 3rd and leaving on the 10th. All I really have to do is tell him that it's booked and he won't mind a bit. I WAS looking into a 3 or 4 day cruise, but it ended up being too much $.

Maria - definately try and attend some of the mousefest events. We did so a couple of years ago and had a great time. There was a big DIS meet at MVMCP and we also went to the MegaMouseMeet. Great fun.

We love early December in WDW and this year we are doing early December in Disneyland!

Of all the years I've been going to WDW, probably since 1970, I don't think I've ever been there around the holidays. I'm really excited. I don't know HOW many days we will be able to do the parks, but I know for sure we will be there at least once. What's the temperature in December like? Shorts and T-shirts, I'm sure. Maybe a little jacket at night? I LOVE that weather. It will probably be a lot warmer for US than for you Floridians. Who knows, we may even have snow by then. Oh shiver at the thought....that's too early.

Its hard to say... it all depends on the day... and the night... it can be 80 one day, and 50 the next... depends whether there is a front over us or not. Case in point... 2 years ago, our OUTDOOR company Christmas party was held on Dec 16, and it was 38 degrees at night. Last year, it was a formal INDOOR affair, and it was about 70 outside.

You will definitely think its much warmer than at home... bring shorts, jeans, and a light jacket... you'll be fine.

No, not everyone has generators. Most generators will run the refrig and a few applicances, but not the A.C. In my mind that is the real issue. After last year many people, including Mike and Joan (our neighbors) got a whole house generator. It will run everything in the house, except the AC.

If I was going to get one, it would run the AC. I can live without my stove, but Sharon can not live with AC.

The other issue with generators is getting gas. If there is no power, there are no gas stations. Whole house generators run on gas.

Last year I saw a huge line at Lowes after a hurricane. I thought they were getting generators. No, they were waiting for gas cans to come in. They needed to get more gas as the generators burn through it pretty quick. People are now storing gas in their garages (50 gals), in case they need them after a hurricane.

We have a generator that will run the essentials, but I can always go to work... we have a diesel generator that will run the entire company, 100%... computers, lights, warehouse refrigeration, etc.... no comfy place to sleep, but that's OK... aerobeds to the rescue.

Sharon is doing the Doc Dance right now. We got our docs for our Radisson cruise over Thanksgiving. Of course we don't know where we are going since a stop was going to be in Cozumel, but that really does not matter.

I can dive pretty much anywhere.

Hey Jim... got any good ideas for a not-too-far getaway weekend for New Year's Eve? We're trying to plan something... not sure where we want to go, but don't want to spend a ton of driving time. (Not WDW... this is a no kids weekend.) Might go to Tampa to see the Barenaked Ladies at the Forum for New Years Eve... unless something better comes up. Thinking of a B&B somewhere...
