I think I should have taken Sir Scubas lead and gone away for Christmas this year! Not going to bore you with details. Suffice it to say my brother is a jerk! But at least I was drinking Banfi when the incident happened and after finishing off the bottle and crying myself to sleep, I felt much better!
We are back. We got in late last night. The only down side of this trip was the traffic coming home. Some of the highways were stop and go for miles at a time. We ended up getting off the highway and going cross country. Thank goodness for GPS.
Now for a short trip report because we are already thinking that this would be a good spot for a DIS mini-meet.
We stayed at Southern Cross Ranch is Madison (website is southcross.com) . It was about 1 hour southeast of Atlanta. It is a working horse ranch with over 200 horses. It is an all inclusive bed and breakfast.
There are about 10 rooms. As the kids call it, Sharon and I have the Walt Suite and they had a cat 11. I figured that was the only way to get Sharon there. Our room had a fireplace, large sitting area, whirlpool, steamroom, etc. It was a great place to set up our Christmas tree (yes, I did take one). We played a lot of games in our room. Family Time.
They have a dinning hall which is always open with food for Matt. Homemade cookies 24/7 which were great. Game room with pool table, darts, foosball, etc.
They had meals at 8, 1, and 6. The food was all homemade, the kind that Mom use to make. It was heavy carbs and bread, but a great variety. Everything is buffet. For Christmas they had the tables set with china, white table cloths. Nice. It was great having a nice Christmas lunch watch the horses in the pasture. For that lunch we had turkey, ham, goose, mashed potatoes and gravy, bread, dressing, etc. It was one of the best holiday meals I have had.
We rode every day at 9 and 2 for 2 hours each. They would assign you a horse and give you a lead rope. We would walk out to the pens to get our horse, bring it up, brush it down, get the tack and saddles. They would put the gear on and they we would lead it out to the woods and ride. They had a guide go with us the first time, but after that it was our choice. Some times we took the guide, but other times we just went on our own. They let us trot and lope which were great fun.
If we liked a horse we would get the same one. Matt ended up asking for BB which was a Belgium draft horse. It was a monster horse, but a great one to ride. Very smooth and with feet as big as Matt's. He like the horse because of the size.
The weather was great. It was sunny and not to cold. Monday morning it got windy as was uncomfortable at the end.
For us, it was a great trip. The kids loved having free run of the range. Sharon and I loved reading books in the sun room or in front of the fire place.
I'll post some pictures this week of the trip. If you are ever looking for a 3-4 day get away and you enjoy riding, sitting by the pool, relaxing. we would recommend this trip, even Sharon would!
