No, there's no panic here... though the stations where gas is cheaper are obviously MUCH busier than their more pricey competition.

Besides, if you get stuck here, you can always hang out with us... :rotfl2: granted, our house is 90% empty right now, with all our stuff in the garage, but that means there's plenty of sleeping space!!! Besides, stay long enough, and you can be the first houseguests in the new house- and THAT's got 2 extra bedrooms!!
OK i will take you up on that offer:teeth:

Hi folks - Amanda - as promised here is a quick report

No one can be sure, and you will need to make your own decision, but I would not change travel plans at this point....That is just me. I have never had a car full of kids to take care of.....But come-on....what is better than helping KikiKaren move....what a novel excuse for missing work and school....

I hope this helps, and I hope to see you this weekend......
Irene, thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I sincerly appreciate it, and appreciate the reassurnces you and Karen have offered me. You will never know how much that means to me. :goodvibes

Time for sharing...We (on the November 12th Eastern) have just heard from one of our ship mates that lives in Alabama and was evacuated....She is safe. Here is some of her report.

Hello Everyone.......I sit here and write through a mist of tears in my eyes due to a few reasons. First off, and the most important fact, is we are all safe. I can’t even begin to complain about the state of affairs the area in which we live is in considering Biloxi and New Orleans and others........When you walk onto our back balcony and look south, you see the Gulf of Mexico. If you look west you see the mouth of Mobile Bay..........Our area took a hard hit....... The doors and windows were boarded, but we still took on some water. I have someone’s hot water heater in my front yard. We found our first floor (storage area) siding about 300 yards to the north east of our home. Someone’s refrigerator is lying on the beach in the back of our home. Someone’s underground pool was uprooted and is blocking the highway. It will be at least another week or so, before they have temporary utilities in place.......We don’t want our DS (3) to see our area.......Furthermore, we are 100 times better off than our neighboring states. Again, I have absolutely no right to complain. My house is still standing, and we are safe. It's weird how calm the Gulf is and how peaceful the beach appears.

She then talks about how much she appreciated the support of her cruisers....so, I wanted to share this with you.....

OK - We need some more happy endings........

Irene! Thanks so much for sharing! It seems like there is only bad news, so to get even smaall tidings of good news gives hope!

Irene, I am not concerned with the price right now, it is more so the fact, will I be stranded with 4 kids once I get there, becasue there is no gas. Can you just tell me how the stations are looking and if there seems to be a "panic" in the air?

Mike just got a call from his brother who lives just north of Atlanta. Marc waited in line for 30 minutes to get gas. It was $2.90 a gallon. The gas station attendants were telling people to FILL UP because once Atlanta is out of gas they will be OUT for 10 days...there will be no new gas on the way.

According to DRUDGE, several airports may be closing b/c of lack of jet fuel...Orlando included. Which means our Sept 2nd-16th trip may be interesting!

Not that it makes a difference, but I haven't checked the gas here.

Our walmart gas this afternoon had jumped to $3.09. Not sure what it was at the highway, but I'm sure it was more as it always is 10cents more per gallon close to the highway.

This may be part of the rumor mill working overtime. I posted this then read about all of it being rumors, so please take what I said with a grain of salt.

I know we are not doing any more driving that we have to. We live close enough to some fast food joints and the local walmart, but everything above and beyond that is restricted right now. We plan our outings carefully to get everything done in one fell swoop. No need to panic yet, but also no need for us to go galavanting all over the place unnecessarily. I figure if I'm paying over $3 for a tank of gas, I'm losing a lot of my "vacation fund!" :) Less driving now, more cruising later...that's my motto! ;)

What I meant by "This doesn't matter" is that we are way over here in Arizona, so my info wasn't very helpful or pertinent for Amanda.
We get our gas trucked in from CA....and unfortunately, our gas prices aren't regulated...so guess what the station owners are doing right now?? Raising prices and gouging....simply because they can!

:flower1: Good morning cruisers! :flower1:

Happy Thursday!

We leave around noon to head to WDW. If all goes well we should be in TN tonight and then go the rest of the way tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting friends - both old and new!

Mark and Mary - have a safe journey.... Enjoy the DIS meets and the DVC cruise!!!

someone posted this in another thread http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=68579
This is what our GOV says...I am going to take his advice :flower:
" Instead of adding to the lines at the pumps, Perdue suggested, "Why don't just relax and spend the time with your children?...we're going to get through this just fine." "

Thanks....The main part I liked was: "Citing credible evidence of price gouging, Governor Sonny Perdue Wednesday afternoon signed an executive order authorizing state sanctions against gas retailers who gouge consumers."

A bit late GA, but good for your Gov....

BEAR - GOOD MORNING -- I can't wait to see you this weekend.....

Remember your furry and feathered friends...they need our help too!

OMGosh guys..I am scared......It just took my 30 mins to wait in line to get gas. There is talk that gas is going to be rationed to only $10 per customer. It was 2.59 on the way to work this morning and I jsut filled up at 2.89........We are supposed to leave to ORlando 2mrrw, I am so scared of running out of gas. How is it looking in your parts of the country? I was listening to the XM radio and they said that gas was 3.55 a gal in Atlanta, Angie? Please tell me how the gas is looking in your parts, exp those of you in FLA. If there is a chance I will run out of gas, and be stranded I dont know if I should go 2mrrw.

Amanda, I haven't read through all of the posts yet. But, people in ATL have panicked! DH needed to get gas today and couldn't find any. Most gas stations that I passed had bags over the pumps. It's a mess. The gov. has tried to reassure people but they aren't listening. Good luck!

We got a bit of good news last night. Last night BIL's ex-neighbor called to say that their house is still standing with minimal damage. He didn't walk around to the back but said from the front everything looked fine. He stayed behind because he's in the national guard.

My good friend finally made contact via last night. No one had heard from them. They rode out the storm at their house in Slidell. She said that they also had no structural damage to the house. Yesterday they decided to pack up and head to her parents in Katy, TX.

MIL's husband is headed back to MS this morning to try to check on the status of their house.

Good Morning!

Safe travels to everyone this weekend! Can't wait to hear reports and see pictures! I'm off tomorrow morning to Chicago and my H.S. Reunion.

Latest report is that at least 20% of N.O. has been relocated to Houston, don't think that includes those families who already came on their own...

Yesterday evening, in just a two block radius, there was a 20 cent difference in gas prices. As of last night it ranged from $2.68-$2.88. Lines at $2.68 nothing at $2.88. We see what the prices are this a.m...The kids are begging to ride their bikes just about everywhere - they may get their wish...
