OK now I am worried again...there are reports that a station in Atl is charging over $5 a gallon http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=900330

That's just plain price gouging... and it's illegal in most places.

The station near us still has gas, but has taken its price down from the sign... who knows WHAT they're charging. :confused3 .

Regular unleaded was $2.56 near my office yesterday, $2.59 this morning (I topped off then), and $2.69 this afternoon. I am sure it will be higher by the time I go by again at 8AM. Unfortunately, the diesel tank behind our building doesn't do any good for my gasoline-powered car.

Our county has banned all non-essential driving by county vehicles, and is contemplating what to do with the school buses. (DD will only be riding the bus for another week and a half... lets hope they don't do anything yet!)

We leave for Florida tomorrow on our planned road trip. We sail on Sunday. Sure we know we'll have to pay more but its a little too late to change everything and try and fly down - plus we are bringing all the buttons and a box for another cruiser.

I would say if you are that scared then it isn't worth going.
Mary, the only thing I am worried about is not being able to get gas to get back home. Are y'all now worried about that?

So does it appear to be a panic in your area? Like gas will run out?

OMGosh guys..I am scared......It just took my 30 mins to wait in line to get gas. There is talk that gas is going to be rationed to only $10 per customer. It was 2.59 on the way to work this morning and I jsut filled up at 2.89........We are supposed to leave to ORlando 2mrrw, I am so scared of running out of gas. How is it looking in your parts of the country? I was listening to the XM radio and they said that gas was 3.55 a gal in Atlanta, Angie? Please tell me how the gas is looking in your parts, exp those of you in FLA. If there is a chance I will run out of gas, and be stranded I dont know if I should go 2mrrw.

Amanda, we live in Lake Mary (just north of Orlando) and I saw gas prices at $2.71 today on the way home from work today. No gas lines so far. So at this point, it doesn't like you should have any problem finding gas here, just bring $$$.

Drive safely.

Susie

Thank you Susie! I have decided we are going to go ahead and head down 2mrrw. If I have to be stranded somewhere with no gas, what better place than WDW with an annual pass right?

If it happens it happens. One way or the other we'll make it work. Maybe we'll have to stop more often. Maybe we'll have to wait in a line. I hope not.

Concerned? Yes Panicked? No

Honestly if you are that worried then just don't go or reschedule it for another weekend. We don't have that option with out cruise.

I am not panicked...only concerned, but as you say I will make do.....sorry to bother you with such a question..I was simply looking for some reassurance from my DIS friends.

And just cuz I am here and need something to smile about:teeth:

We all need something to smile about right now.... :teeth:

I am finally going to head home - after doing errands for my mother - and check on the gas prices....Will post when I get home...with a glass of wine so I will not be responsible for typos.....

So I have stories to telll,,,, but not postable. Glad today is over!!!!

Reassurance? Certainly. Endorsement of pointless blind panic? Nope.

There is simply nothing to worry about. Will prices go up? Certainly. Is there a real shortage? Nope, just some people around Atlanta reading into hype that has no basis in any real fact.

Prices around here have been hovering near $3 a gallon for weeks now and are still hovering, no real movement up or down. And with our Forester with its 26-28 mpg, we can go a very long way before we absolutely have to fill up if some area is having issues.

All I was trying to do was get a reading on the "feel" of the gas situation from other people on the thread...pointless blind panic? :confused3 It is a concern of mine, as I am traveling with 4 children, alone. Quite a different situation than 2 adults traveling alone.

Amanda don't get upset. It is quite different that's why I said you were worried you should stay home. Simple as that. You are coming across as being in a bit of a panic mode. Both here and on the community board. You asked if I was worried and I answered. Sorry if you didn't like the answer.

I listened to a bit of the Presidents address today and he mentioned that they were rolling back the different formulations of gas to speed up production and opening up the strategic oil reserves as well.

With the production lost in the Gulf area, fuel will be higher, but it should level off after the shock is over. Personally, I don't think we will have trouble finding it. It will just cost more!! :scared1: :scared1:

That's nice, we have that epa enforced 'emissions reformulated' stuff here(costs more), wonder what that'll do? It's been hovering just below $3 for 87 around here, Still around that as of on the way home, the 4 stations I drive past were about as busy as usual, no moreso.

That's kind of what I was expecting too. I don't know how many people remember the last real one of '79, but that was an immediate and nationwide thing. This is more local, and will have a spreading effect as the fuel in storage has to be redistirbuted to work around S Louisiana and Mississippi being out of the picture, but it's not into the real 'shortage' place and I don't expect it to be.

No, there's no panic here... though the stations where gas is cheaper are obviously MUCH busier than their more pricey competition.

Besides, if you get stuck here, you can always hang out with us... :rotfl2: granted, our house is 90% empty right now, with all our stuff in the garage, but that means there's plenty of sleeping space!!! Besides, stay long enough, and you can be the first houseguests in the new house- and THAT's got 2 extra bedrooms!!

Hey... you catch on quick!!!! Child labor laws... never heard of 'em!!

Hi folks - Amanda - as promised here is a quick report -

No long lines...

Gas prices less than $3.00 on one side of the county

Over $3.00 on te other side of the county.

What happens in Florida is that we have price gouging laws. So, gas stations are not allowed to raise prices on gas in their station. We saw this when the state decided to provide a tax break on gas. Gas stations would not fill up their tanks until after the price break date passed. So, at time, you found stations that only had high test to offer, but there were no lines....

I heard the President's address and he has approved EPA's relaxation of gas blends. Now, if there is no Clean Air Act Suit, and I am not sure how that would play in the courts, under the circumstances, that will provide some relief. Plus the release of the strategic oil supplies.

I also hear our talk show host's reports on what is happening in GA. I am glad I was not there because it sounds like some people started panic rumours....and your state does not have any price control laws, so the gas stations were able to get away with it.

No one can be sure, and you will need to make your own decision, but I would not change travel plans at this point....That is just me. I have never had a car full of kids to take care of.....But come-on....what is better than helping KikiKaren move....what a novel excuse for missing work and school....

I hope this helps, and I hope to see you this weekend......
