Congratulations!!!!

BTW - No new postcard - Did receive the desk the other day - THANKS!!! I'll post some pics when I get it put together......

It's slow now - no patients - which is really strange in my ER..... of course - now there is no one to talk to.....

Virgil, still waiting to hear your review of Vero Beach! Or did I miss it?

Nope - you didn't miss it.....

We really liked it. It was very nice.

We liked:

The location - Disney's Vero Beach is isolated, surrounded by other condos. We stayed in the Inn. We liked the room - but for any longer than 6 days it was too small. The room was quiet. The pool - large, warm, a fun slide. Not too crowded. The food was good, both poolside and in the restaurants. We tended to split a double cheeseburger for Lauren and me at it was plenty. There were a lot of activities - both free and fee. Lauren did the Turtle Troop (meeting with a Disney wildlife expert - and looking at turtle nests). We loved walking along the beach and seeing where the turtles had crawled up on the beach to lay eggs - or where they were scared away and high tailed it back to the water. Lauren got to watch as they dug up a nest that had hatched to count the hatched/unhatched eggs. There were actually 2 hatchlings left - that they then carried to the water and released. The beach was nice - and the water was also warm. No strong undertows or currents. There were many good places to eat in town - about 15-20 minutes away (we asked and ate at a great seafood place on the beach - got there early - waited and had a window for dinner - it was great!). There is a great pizza place across the street - called Orchid Isle Pizza. They not only have pizza, but many pastas and salads too. They deliver to the front door of the Inn. It was nice how dark it was on the beach at night - no lights and no flashlights, understood why we couldn't walk along the beach at night with a flashlight (turtle nesting). They closed the pool early each night so that they could turn off the lights - apparently some of the turtles and hatchlings were being confused. A few days before we got there - they had a bunch of hatchlings show up on the croquet lawn.... they picked them up and moved them to the ocean....

We didn't like:

The food in the restaurants was expensive for the quality. The service in the the restaurants was not up to Disney standards - too many tables per waitress. I thought that the paper plates/bowls in the Inn rooms were too cheap. The outlet mall was unimpressive - as was the mall. We did see a movie and the theater was nice. The costs of beach umbrellas/chairs was outrageous - so we bought a beach chair and used it - then left it for other DISers. The costs of some of the activities seemed a little high. They canceled the campfire 1 night because of rain (ok), and the other night because of the threat of rain (?) Nothing like a fake campfire. The BUGS.... take OFF, DEET, whatever and use liberally once the sun starts down. We had a road view room (all that was available) and we hated that the balcony had a solid railing - you couldn't sit and see out - you had to stand.... not that there was much to see in the parking lot.....$5 for 30 minutes of internet on their computer that was so locked down if I opened another window on the DIS to post I had to re-login. No in room internet - while I didn't want to do any work - and I didn't - it's just too ubiquitous to be without these days.

Would we go again - definitely - it was quite hot - but even though it rained all around us every day for an hour or so - it only rained on us 1 evening. It was interesting when we were in town or at the little collection of shops down the road how deserted it was - it is not their busy season - so the shops were open from 10a-4p..... we had to rearrange our schedule because of this.

All in all a great first trip... Home... (ok SSR is home, but you get my drift...)

The tree guy said to put a mark on the trees we wanted cut. I think he was assuming I would use spraypaint. What about a DIS POST.....Do you think a dead doorknob would work - or a mouse..... :rotfl2:

Russell, my favorite queen palm (yes, I named him, cause he 'rustles' nicely when I'm floating in the pool) succumbed to the 3 storms... he hasn't fallen, but hasn't had a single green leaf/frond/whatever in almost a year. But he's still standing, and the home inspector didn't say that he needed to come down before the closing, so he's staying put.

We had a Russell - except it was a "she" and she was beautiful. That was the first to go...not the stragley one, the pretty one....She was hurt during the first storm and all night during the second, I wondered if she would survive the trhashing of her fronds....Sorry, no.....I will miss her.

I meant to post this the other day..I am a somewhat smoker.....I do not smoke at home, or in the car..I only smoke 3 cigs a day M-F at work(one a 9am, one at lunch and 1 at 3pm), and it is more of a social thing for me...Weird....I know......I dont even buy cigarettes I just give the lady I smoke with a couple of bucks every once in awhile.....so I guess you could say I am a grubber too, like Maria said. I wish you luck in quitting Stacey. I cant imagine not being able to quit. But the lady I smoke with says she cant imagine snoking the way I smoke..It is just not something I "physically" crave..but more so the hanging out of it...I do enjoy a smole but sont crave it...make sense?

Make sense - honestly? Not really.....but then, some say I have a few quirks too....some may be wrong, but they still say it... :rotfl2:

Good Morning Amanda - The current plan (with no #^$%&#$%&$ storms) is for us to limit our visits to Food and Wine to 2 times....due to our November Cruise (Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait).

We are there the weekend of the 7th and the 22nd - no calendar handy. The 22nd is a business trip - so we could meet up perhaps on Sunday.....Yes, I know - some people take business folk diving. I decided to do PArty of the Senses.....Wish me luck.

When I moved to FL and started working on the "Wild Game Feast" that we sponsor every year, I was first horrified that people eat "Swamp Cabbage"... then I was even more horrified after my second year, when I found out that they actually make it from 'palm tree guts'... and not the canned ones- they showed up at my office with a tree all cut in pieces and told me they were storing it in my draught cooler... Blech...

I'm just a Connecticut Yankee... what do I know?? :confused3

Swamp Cabbage - yummy!!!!!! Honest - ymmmy....no pic today...

:confused3:confused3huh???/splain please

If no one esle posted, in Florida - and perhaps other places in the south, they cut out the heart of a cabbage palm, shred it like cole slawy, cook it and eat it, yummy. The Swamp Cabbage Festival is held in LaBelle Florida - each year!!!!

Fact - for the Day...
