yep, we'll be on the wet side and it's projected to turn north after landfall, so we'll get hit hard any way we look at it... Our house is only 21 feet above sea level about a mile from the bay - depending on the storm surge and tides we could be water logged... Not exactly how I wanted to get the carpets replaced...

At least this is motivating the kids to clean their rooms so if needed we can starting moving stuff upstairs...Don't think I've ever had them so willing to clean...Although, I'd rather do without this kind of motivation.
Our prayers are with you and everyone in harms way. :grouphug:
OK, I forgot to sign Larry off, but he sends prayers, too.

There's a hurricane heading toward you...You need to evacuate...You can only take what will fit into a Beetle convertible ...So, including yourself and 2 kids...what else do you take??

Kinda sounds like a "stranded on a desert island with one item" question...:rotfl2:

Medical records, financial records, a few changes of clothes...Guess you learn quickly what is important in your life and what you can't absolutely live without...

I surprised that in 10 years you never had to deal with a hurricane. I remember many times going to sleep at the high school (evacuation center). I'm not sure if we would have gone had my dad not been a vice-principal/principal. At least we got to sleep in his office and not in the gym with everyone else.

Yes ... take everything that you mentioned above. And as Irene mentioned, wedding photos & photos of your kids. Be sure to bring anything regarding your home ... home owner's ins. policy info, mortgage info, property records, etc.

Since you have a 2 story house, move anything that you'd don't want to see damaged upstairs. We only had a 1-story house growing up, so I remember my dad always putting the furniture & other things up on bricks just in case the house flooded.

Be sure your house is stocked with bottled water and food that doesn't require heating. That way, if the electricity is out, you're set.

Talked to my best friend tonight. She's trying to figure out what she'll do if the storm heads towards Houston. She's thinking of just going back to her mom's house in the New Orleans 'burbs.

Be safe, Monica... we're praying for you.

At least you are smart, and willing to evacuate if the need arises... now is not the time to pretend you have a big letter "S" on your shirt!!

Take care - fill that Beetle... and fill all the loose spaces with M&M's!!!!

No fooling?? That's really amazing!

Our flight leaves at 1:50pm, might have to do an early lunch.

Irene, Kevin and Sue are talking about a meet in Baltimore, sounds like you will be at WDW. Pretty far apart.

I didn't know my hubby is a crab cake expert. Not something you order very often in NM. The things you learn on the internet!

Houston to Albuquerque is quite a haul, I doubt the boys will want to make that drive. He's calling them tonight, finding out where they plan to go. Need to find out about my brother too.

Monica, we've got our fingers crossed along with you!

Hi all

Quick update and then back to packing - we're off to Northern Louisiana and staying at the grandmother of a friend's empty house. No furniture but, at least there's a bathroom, kitchen and best of all it's away from the hurricane and free!!! Our friends are also evacuating and will be at her parent's house a block away so, the kids are looking forward to at least 5 days of playing time. They think it will be great fun to have an indoor camp-out.

All the documents packed...in the hierarchy of necessities, as well as limited room, I may be one of the rare people who aren't taking photos, both sets of parents have duplicate sets of just about everything.

Already stocked the house with supplies, filled the cars with gas and we're ready to go...

Had to laugh about the cruise documents, I debated about including them in the folder - but, figured I could get them replaced from our travel agent who just happens to be a DISer and on our cruise...However, the documents are locked in the supposed fire and water proof box...

Love the M&M's!!! A woman after my own heart! M&M's are my "drug" of choice - either that or Reese's Mini Peanut Butter Cups!

(Don't worry about making light of a stressful situation - my dad and I share the same thoughts in crisis - you can either laugh or cry and it's more fun to laugh...)

Thanks for all the advice - I do consider ourselves blessed, and fortunate to have been in Houston for 10 years without a hurricane - My heart goes out to the Katrina evacuees who may be uprooted for a 2nd time...

Just a very quick hello, and I am dragging my bones to bed. I'm home....tired, and happy. We had a great visit, and a lot of fun. My brother's ordainment ceremony was really, really nice and I am so glad I got to be there.....
But I feel like "Dorothy"...there's no place like home.

Again, here we are, worrying about those in the path of Rita....prayers for everyone's safety!!

Will try to catch up on all the pages I missed....unless someone wants to recap for me?? ::yes::

Good night!!

Hi Stacey! We missed you!

Monica, you're probably gone, but check in if you get the chance. Stay safe!

Haven't heard about the family in TX. I may be helping with gas money to get my brother up north, he never has much. Haven't heard from the stepsons in Houston yet either. They may be busy!

With all the problems you have been having with the Beetle, you just might want to leave it....:confused3

A Top for me shared with Kikipug, Monica and her bettle, and possible insurance fraud?

Good Luck - travel safe, stay relaxed, and we will be praying for the entire state and those in the path of the storm...

Did you remember to take phot'os of your house and all the preparations you made....Sometimes handy for insurance purposes....Took ours last year with a disposable, did not need them, luckily....

Oh, my - memories of my childhood. Mother was in Britain during the blitz and the handsome American soldiers, including my Father, introduced the family to SPAM. Realize a family of 4 had one hamburger pattie and one egg a week.....so, SPAM it was.......Many a day my lunch bag had Spam sandwiches....and we ate fried SPAM......Thanks a lot Daddy!!!!

I still see SPAM on her grocery list.......This is one tradition, I wish she had left on the other side of the ocean.........long, before I came on the scene......
