Are y'all getting a lot of rain? We've yet to get any - just overcast today. And cool. Has your brother talked to anyone in Destin to see how his house held up? When we will he head back. I remember when Andrew hit LA, my parents didn't stay away for long. Even though they were without power for a week, I couldn't convince them to leave.

YES it has been raining ALLLLLLLL DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy downpour! I thought I would be smart and hit the grocery store this morning since it was raining, and everyone was staying inside right?? NO GO! The place was packed! He just got in early this morning at 4 am ish. SO I do not hink he has talked to anyone down there. They are renting a house, so it is not a big of a worry for them as if they were buying.

Emily was asked to be the flower girl. We said yes & bought the dress. Luckily, "the wife" is frugal & found Emily's & her neice's dresses (jr. bridesmaid) on the sale wrack for $50. Anyway, a week or so before the wedding we were INFORMED that children were not allowed at the reception. I certainly understand not inviting children to the wedding but having children in your wedding & not wanting them at the reception is a different story!!! They did want the kids in the family photos at the reception & requested that we have a sitter pick them up as soon as the photographs were done. I should have put my foot down. Oh, the kids weren't invited to the rehearsal dinner either. This was all a big inconvenience since we were in from out of town. She offered to get a teenage sitter to watch the kids at her sister's house for the evening of the rehearsal. We declined. The kids were 2.5 and not quite 1. Luckily my best friend was able to watch them for the rehearsal dinner. On the night of the wedding, we had to get a hotel room in New Orleans for ourselves & my parents. We left Ashley with my parents. They met us at the church. Since Bruce & Emily were in the wedding party, they got to ride in a limo. I was to fend for myself. No big deal, but no one bothered to give us directions to the reception. I knew exactly where the reception was (French Quarter) but got sort of twisted around getting from the church to the Quarter. Then there was no parking at Jax's brewery - literally none! My parents were following me with Ashley. Finally my dad stopped me, handed me Ashley & said that they would deal with finding 2 parking spots for the cars. When I walked in to the reception, everyone started saying "Where were you? We have all been waiting on you!" That was it, I lost it and wound up in tears. Let's just say it was a miserable night. If I had known the kids weren't welcome, I could have saved the cost of 2 dresses for the girls and the cost of the hotel room for my parents. I would have just shipped the girls to my parents' house for the night.

Even after all of that, I've decided that the wife is a good person & have forgiven.

Oh... I forgot to mention the fact that NONE of her neices or nephews left the reception. That made me even more mad.

It's raining CATS & DOGS here now. I think the lights have flickered a couple of times.

Stay safe!

Hello, my name is LISA.

I'm younger than I feel, but older than I look :rotfl2: . Not married yet, since I have control issues...... but I'm not hopeless!

I'm really misunderstood, but trying to understand all the complexities of the world.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Finally, someone understands where poor LISA is coming from..........

Good thing LISA isn't responding.
We had a guy work for us from the time he was old enough to just sweep the floors.
When he got married, his wife insisted that (other than HER siblings, all young, and the wedding party) there be NO kids at the wedding or reception. My kids have known this guy and his family their whole lives. He was like a big brother...... AND...we gave them a huge cash gift, helped pay for their honeymoon cruise, and gave him paid vacation time to go on the honeymoon.....
They got married at a local western-type restaurant that has a small chapel...kind of cute. So, I called the owner of the restaurant, a friend of ours, and asked if I could get the kids a table for dinner...outside, right next to the chapel. Our friends dined with my kids...and they all got to see the wedding afterall. By the time the reception was underway, the bride was tipsy and didn't even notice that the kids had joined us!
Maybe it isn't really LISA who is the trouble-making-rule-breaker!

So the family is all gone and I have the house to myself for the day. What do I wake up to? A dead computer. I spent all day playing computer tech guy. I needed the Geek Squad!

Had to finally upgrade to NT. Finally got it on-line and now need to go through all the changes. I remember why I did not want to upgrade....what a hassle! :confused3

Bummer! Never a good time for that to happen.

I've been using Windows 2000 on my home machine and all the machines at the office as well. I think it's far superior to XP Home and just more no-frills than XP Pro. Both those kind of remind me that that the design team must have been a group of adolescent girls. No offense to young girls, but the interface is just to frilly for me. :badpc: Just give me a stable operating system and I'll be happy. That's one of the main reasons I'm holding on to my old computer at home as long as I can.

Sounds like the bride just wasn't thinking. Brides can be like that. I'm glad that the trouble has been smoothed over, at least.

I sometimes think about the floral print dress I made my 7 months pregnant Maid of Honor wear at our wedding. I bet she still hasn't forgiven me for it.

Jim, looks like you got something to work? Who is the geek squad, would that be Matt? He doesn't look like a geek!

Obviously, the annoying "Geek Squad" commercials haven't made it that far west yet... (they are the tech-support guys from Best Buy)

Boy does THAT sound familiar!!!! My BIL & SIL asked my kids to both be in the wedding, then told US the very next day that they couldn't go to the reception because... get this... they didn't want the kids 'stealing the spotlight' on their special day. So I told them that THEY needed to tell the kids that they made a mistake, and didn't mean to ask them to be in the wedding. They didn't have the guts to do that (I knew they wouldn't)... the kids were GREAT, and the wedding was beautiful. My parents sat with my kids, and it was terrific! Rather than pay full price for a $60 meal for each that they wouldn't eat, (it was a country club), we ordered them chicken fingers from the bar- everyone was happy.

KT is going to be a flower girl in Mike's 1/2 sisters wedding in October (missing the ONLY OSU home game in October, to boot!)

Anyway, before camp we had to go to a bridal shop and try on dresses. KT tried on this LOVELY, GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL dress.....medium pink with a white sash and flower in the back.

The bride loved how it looked, and the size was good. She told me that's probably the one she'll go with, but it'll be made in BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BLACK!!!!!!! Is this a funeral or a wedding? Black with a pink sash and flower. Same as the bridesmaids.

KT is sad b/c not only does she miss the OSU game, but she has to wear a black dress. I told her that it's the bride's choice and we do what she says even if she's not in her right mind!! ;)

Elizabeth INSISTED on wearing the same dress as the bride when she was a flower girl... it was absolutely beautiful... if you ever know anyone who needs an understated, ivory satin gown in a 6X, I've got just the thing.

Well, I'm beat. Did 3 loads of laundry today and tried to clean up this mess from unpacking. Found out we've lost two bath towels and Mike lost a DCL Castaway Club beach towel! Also, found out KT's ENTIRE bottle of shampoo opened in her groom kit and got over everything! Also managed to sneak in a 3 hour nap. I feel like I've been hit with a truck. WAY too much activity for 5 straight days!

btw, Mary, the scrapbooking thing went very well! Seating was tight (I thought TOO tight) but no one seemed to mind. My cabin was 25 minutes late getting there (my teen helper decided to shower them all even though they were supposed to be at my scrapbooking thing) All of the girls did INCREDIBLE jobs making pages. They had some very creative ideas!! I'd have liked a longer time block, but that wasn't possible. Oh well. The older girls were very excited about it b/c usually it's the same activities every year....this was the FIRST scrapbooking activity! :)

edited b/c I have NO idea why I put "3 loads of laundry" !!!!!!!!!! I think I was thinking about my THREE hour nap. I've done like 7 loads of laundry.
Duh!

I think I was the most layed-back bride, at least I hope I was. I decided to only have 2 bridesmaids - my sister & my best friend. I flew in to New Orleans for the weekend & we hit probably 3 department stores & shopped the sales racks. Between 2 of the stores we found 2 off-the-rack dresses that were the same color & fabric but different styles. Each was around $30. My MIL asked what I wanted her to wear. I told her that I didn't care - just that it needed to be floor length since my mom's was & not wine color since my mom's was.

We didn't included children's names on invitations. We did have a few RSVP that their kids were coming. I didn't have the heart to tell them that they weren't invited to so we included in the head count. Then they had the nerve not to show up!

Funny story ... we got married in Vegas since we were living there at the time. Not on the strip! It was a Catholic wedding with reception at a golf course. We picked the in-laws up from the airport & dropped them off at the hotel. We picked them up for dinner. As soon as MIL gets in the car, she said that she had bad news. She forgot her dress in MS! She said that when she realized the dress got left, she went down to a casino bathroom to cry. She was mad at FIL because she asked him to put it in the car but he didn't. Anyway, a lady went up to her in the bathroom & asked her how much money she lost! We said that she could have one of their daughters swing by the house & pick it up before they flew out but no one had a key to their house. We had to hit the mall the next morning. Luckily she was a perfect size & didn't require alterations. We were able to find a new dress that was the same color as the original so her dyed shoes worked.
