We celebrated the good news that arrived in the mail... DD made Pop Warner Little Scholar All-American in her first year of eligibility!!! (Unfortunately, this year's banquet is in Anaheim instead of Orlando... needless to say, we aren't going...) But we are so proud of her!! :cheer2:

Congrats to your daughter!! That is wonderful news. Too bad you can't go to anaheim.

Glad you enjoyed your dinner (Inlet Harbor or Deck Down Under?). We are justing finishing up our dinner with cheesecake and ice wine next to the pool with DD gymnastics's coach. We have one of them spending the week in our pool house.

Inlet Harbor...
Cheesecake and wine... mmmmm!!!! Always a good combination!!

Thanks! She understands that we can't fly across country for dinner...

:flower1:Good morning cruisers!:flower1:

Happy Sunday!

Getting ready to head out to church. This afternoon we are going to a 75th birthday party for my Godmother. In between is the usual laundry and stuff. Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone. We bowled last night and I can't believe I'm up at 8:00a.m. We didn't get home until 1:00. It's going to be a S-L-O-W day. My bed will be calling my name around 8:00 tonight. I might beat the kids to bed. LOL :rotfl2: Another B-uuutiful day here in NY!! Sun is shining, temps are going to be around 60-70 again!!! Life is good.

Sorry I haven't posted lately, we broke ground yesterday and it's been a crazy week trying to get ready and organized. Those of you who have ever done an addition or remodel know what I mean. I still have to pack sooo many things. Kitchen stuff, china, etc. I will post some pictures as we move along.

Well, hope everyone has a great day. I'm so excited....only 59 more weeks and we're there. Some of you guys have 1-2 cruises before then. Lucky!! Gotta go and get some fuel in my belly to help me get moving today. In-laws are coming.

TTFN,
Maria :flower:

And you did not even offer to take us to the tracks when we were in Baltimore! DD is a big gambler when it comes to the ponies. ;) ;)

We just got back from Fort Lauderdale. DD had 7 state regional gymnastics meet. As always, I'll leave that update to DW.

My important update is that I went by the hotel we are using for our pre-cruise meet in Fort Lauderdale (or you can just call it our dive trip). It looked fine with divers right off our beach.
Hope all went well in Lauderdale!!

Glad you checked out the pre-cruise location, after Mary posted that cool Google Maps link, I did a little surfing and came up with This link is that it?? You can almost make out people strolling down to the water.... :rotfl2:

Can't wait!

Sounds exciting!! What are you guys doing??

Sorry to be nosy, but I'm a remodeling contractor in Albuquerque, and it's always interesting to me what people do. Sounds like a Kitchen addition/remodel???

Mom got a room at the Sheraton for DD and her friends to celebrate the turning of 14yo last night. I had dinner with them and hung out until bedtime. Had to come back and feed the demanding kitty!! :teeth:

Have to take them bagels this morning, and it's SNOWING!! Weather has been very strange here lately. Very nice for a couple of days, then stuff like this. Oh well, all in a days work, eh?

Kevin --

I can't believe it is snowing in Albuquerque. We are a little cooler here in El Paso this morning. Decided to wear a pant suit to church instead of a dress, but not that much cooler.

Maria -- Know what you mean about the remodeling. We are getting ready to add a wall and double the size of our closet in our bedroom. The guys are running a couple of weeks behind schedule and now I have my room all torn apart. They are tiling the closet and the entire bathroom area, then we are putting new carpet in. I just want to get it done. At this rate, we won't be finished before we leave for Florida on June 8. Of course, I still haven't picked out my carpet yet either. Thanks for the info on Cypress Harbour. Hubby really didn't want to have to sit through a timeshare presentation, we went with Cypress Pointe with a great rate from Hotel Kingdom. We got 5 nights for 400. I understand they do offer the presentation, but you don't have to take it.

Well -- gotta run to get to church in time. Everyone have a Happy Sunday:flower:

.

Lisa did very well. She had the the highest all around score she has had all year, but alas no medals. There were competitors from 7 states and competition was fierce. The girls that did real well tended to compete the skill level of the next level (Level 9) at the Level 8 meet. I can't say much because that is exactly what Lisa hopes to do next year. She will be training with the Level 9 competitors at her gym, but probably competing Level 8 next season. She did very well and we are quite proud of her.

On a separate note, Matt was on his "own" for a couple of days because he couldn't take off school to go to her meet. The meet format had the sessions go from youngest to oldest and she was in the youngest group. He did great. He was even responsible enough to "turn" the pool house so one of Lisa's old Coach's could stay there this week. He did the laundry and everything. :cheer2: She is currently coaching in NY, but she came down to see the Regional Championships. Today the Coachs and the Optional Gymnasts (mainly high school age girls) are at the beach. "Poor" Matt went with them today to help one of the coach's we her two kids. He is such a sport. :rotfl:

Congrats to Lisa on a job well done!

Good Morning! It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood :flower: Dh just shut himself in his office to take a 5 hour finance final exam. The kids are playing basketball in the driveway and I'm alternating between checking the boards and reading "A Salty Piece of Land"

Got a bit of good news, bad news from the school this week. The official 2005-2006 school calendar came out had has the year ending May 25. That's the good news...The bad news is the tiny fine print that says "schedule subject to change pending legislation" - Our fine lawmakers in Austin have decided to consider a bill that requires school to start after Labor Day beginning 2005-2006. That would push the start date 2 weeks later and then the ending date would also be 2 weeks later...

The major guilt is setting in about the possibility of having to pull the kids out of school. As a daughter of a teacher, I was throroughly brainwashed and can't pull the kids out of school unless their illnesses are listed on the excused list. I don't even want to have to tell my father, I may pull them out....

:cheer2: Way to go Lisa! :cheer2:

Have a great day!!!

I'll commit blasphemy here - those who have sailed with us on the 10 day have heard my soapbox before - so they can skip the post.....

Remember - these are my opinions and your mileage may very.....

Lauren will be starting 6th grade in the fall. She is a straight A student and enjoys school. She is actually advanced a year and still maxes out her standardized testing, but even if she was a mediocre student we would seriously consider it (and probably do it). We will be pulling her out for the 4 days after Memorial day for this cruise. We chose this cruise because of the friendships that we made on the 10 day and previous cruises. That is quite important to us. Will this affect her grade - it may very well, as it is finals week. Will this adversely affect her life - I don't think so, I think that she will learn from visiting Tulum, spending time with her family and friends, and making memories that will last a lifetime. While there will be times in her future when school and work will prevent her from doing "fun" things - I just don't think that this is one of those times.

Life is too short, and none of us know whether we will be here tomorrow, so we must make the most of the time given us.

My point of view...........

Thanks Virgil , I'm trying to convince my head - that it will be no big deal, if the calendar does change. All the state testing will be over. Grades are due before the last week of school; so, the last week is spent watching movies, parties, and general group project, fun, learning applications, so it will be fine...

The kids are excellent students and are so enthused about math and science that the possibilities for learning and applications both on and off the ship are endless; given the last week of school is more wrap-up, they will probably be learning more visiting the ruins, touring the ship, calculating ship speed, snorkeling, etc...than what they would be doing in school by that point....It's not as if I had purposely planned to pull them out of school- so I shouldn't feel guilty...

We're so excited about this trip, celebrating John's grad school graduation and looking forward to our first period of family time since John started school, I'm not cancelling or rescheduling, just battling with decades of ingrained brainwashing...

Probably should tell my story to Oprah :teeth: , not missing school was so ingrained in my family, my parents threated to contact the school to revoke my "honor roll day" a pre-arranged absence that did not need parental permission. I saved it to use for "Senior Skip Day" - oh boy did that cause WW3 around my house...

I was complaining to my mom about the possibility of the school calendar being changed, she laughed and guessed that I was having more of a problem telling my father I was pulling the kids out than the actual act of pulling them out...I hate it when mothers are sooo smart :rotfl2:

In other news - DD Kristin won her Zone competition in equestrian. She got a first place - she's on the WVU equestrian team (actually a club) and went to NJ on Fri for the Regionals. She placed 3rd. She was a little disappointed as only the top two advance to Nationals, but she realizes that she's only a sophomore - and has done a great job as it is.......

She's also making her final arrangements for her China trip - she was selected to go on an International Engineering Mission..... I wish I could go.... :)

Wow! What an awesome opportunity!!!

Congratulations to all of the accomplishees! Kristin, Lisa, and Elizabeth!:cool1:

Just goes to prove, smart kids like Disney Cruises.

The party went well, and they even got some sleep. It's a bit of a worry, though, to see them going in to high school. Their interests start to part ways, and you can see changes coming. Alicia really needs to go to the Performing Arts High School next year, but our wonderful school board is threatening to deny charter renewal to all of the charters up this year. Including PAPA. Just because they can. We should find out next week sometime.

Frances did a sleep over for Lauren in January - a belated birthday.... as all of her friends are turning 11 instead of turning 10 - it was quite wild.... Never again...says mom....:rotfl: .... threatened to make me stay with her next time.....

Kevin, I have a questionf for you that has to do with your profession. Maybe you could help a gal out? The way my house is, my kitchen is in front of my laundry room. So this means that my fridge and my laundry room share a wall corner. Today I noticed in the laundry room corner, some bad sheet rock. Mildewy. I look on the other side of shared wall, and it is there as well. I guess maybe my water line for my fridge is leaking? Who do I call to fix this? and more importantly do you think it is going to be expensive?
