Thanks Virgil , I'm trying to convince my head - that it will be no big deal, if the calendar does change. All the state testing will be over. Grades are due before the last week of school; so, the last week is spent watching movies, parties, and general group project, fun, learning applications, so it will be fine...
The kids are excellent students and are so enthused about math and science that the possibilities for learning and applications both on and off the ship are endless; given the last week of school is more wrap-up, they will probably be learning more visiting the ruins, touring the ship, calculating ship speed, snorkeling, etc...than what they would be doing in school by that point....It's not as if I had purposely planned to pull them out of school- so I shouldn't feel guilty...
We're so excited about this trip, celebrating John's grad school graduation and looking forward to our first period of family time since John started school, I'm not cancelling or rescheduling, just battling with decades of ingrained brainwashing...
Probably should tell my story to Oprah

, not missing school was so ingrained in my family, my parents threated to contact the school to revoke my "honor roll day" a pre-arranged absence that did not need parental permission. I saved it to use for "Senior Skip Day" - oh boy did that cause WW3 around my house...
I was complaining to my mom about the possibility of the school calendar being changed, she laughed and guessed that I was having more of a problem telling my father I was pulling the kids out than the actual act of pulling them out...I hate it when mothers are sooo smart
