HSM2 was entertaining fluff, we thought. Not as good as HSM1. Only one big dance number that wasn't as imaginative as the first movie. And though it was nice that Zak Efron got to do his own singing this time, the guy really can't dance! And I heard that he's supposed to star in the remake of Footloose! Are they going to use a body dance double?

Pam,

Ouch, I'm sorry you are still down and out with you back!

It's tough to see the kids have to make tough choices about their extra curricular activities at this early stage...Gone are the days of the three sport athletes and/or musical athletes - or athletic musicians... ;)

Thanks about the back. Yes, we have already started talking to Ashley about choices especially after she finishes 8th grade this year and will be in high school. The high school swim coach already knows about her. She loves playing her clarinet also, but there is no way I will let her try to do marching season (especially with her back problems) and swim season at the same time. We know the band director pretty well, and he seems willing to let her take band and not march and just play during concert season. I will be meeting with him about that soon, because if we have to make the choice in high school, she already knows she wants to stay with swimming.

We talked to the band director at school yesterday during registration and he said he thinks she would be better off going to Corpus for the swim meet. He told her he already knows how good she is and that is all that matters (haha) and it won't affect her grade in band if she doesn't do all region. I just can't believe that they scheduled the all region tryouts over Veterans Day weekend. That is a holiday weekend for us and I think it is terrible that they are doing it.

Morning All....continued safe wishes for those in the path of Dean....

Not much to add on the "working opportunity for kids" discussion or the "TVshows on DVD", until you switch to the British sit-coms.....

We had a good day yesterday - Dive-Dive -Dive in the morning before the storms came up.

Mitzpah corridor and then Elevator Shaft. The first, wreck was a good dive. schools of bait fish surrounding huge Goliath Grouper...neat.

Second dive was more like a zip line - wheeeee........ don't blink you will mis it.

Watched the Gymastic Nationals last night - those girls are awesome.

Today, it is back to chores, GaRRy, I'm with you.....welcome back.

Our schools open this next week so for all the kids, enjoy the last of summer.

Take care all....

Ask and it shall be granted... How about "House of Eliot" ? :thumbsup2 Can't believe they just ended it... no resolution, nothing...:sad2:

I forgot to ask, what is the verdict on HSM2?

We enjoyed it. We've seen it twice already. :/ And today is the sing-along, so we'll probably see it again. :lmao:

I liked HSM better. Seems like the songs were catchier. In HSM2, there were only a couple that really hooked me.

There were so many things "wrong" with the movie (blunders in editing or just crappy scenes) that we spent a fair amount of time making fun of it. (i.e. the "T" necklace that kept disappearing, then unexpectedly showing up around Gabriella's neck. or the fact that Troy and Gabriella had NEVER heard of the song "You are the music in me" but yet then sang complicated parts of it while not looking at the music, etc)

Did ya'll see Miley Cyrus in the final dance scene? KT spotted her.

Seems like everyone has the same opinion of HSM2. The girls liked it but Bruce & I think that the 1st was better. The first just seemed to flow better. The songs seemed to be "forced" in the 2nd.

I did catch the disappearing necklace. Emily saw Miley Cyrus in the final scene.

Irene, british sitcoms, huh? I've been meaning to put the original Office on my Netflix list. I've always heard it's better. I do think Ricky Gervais is a hoot. Is "Extras" a Brit or US show?

Pam,

It's tough to see the kids have to make tough choices about their extra curricular activities at this early stage...Gone are the days of the three sport athletes and/or musical athletes - or athletic musicians... ;)

We were just discussing that problem. Lisa's Band Director knows Lisa's choice is gymnastics, but has made allowances for her since 6th grade (she starts 8th tomorrow). We don't know how that will exactly work this year since she is in his "top" band and they regularly have after school practices, etc. I spoke with him last year before Lisa selected her electives and he provided the "good to go" to Lisa's counselor. She has been truly lucky to have an individual who understands that there are athletes who love music.

Now, next year is a whole different situation. When she starts High School she will probably have to give up the music. Her middle school band director has been in contact with the Asst. High School Music Director about Lisa's situation. Her band director thinks he will be Lisa's best shot at figuring out a solution to take a music class without committing to all of the after school activities. The Head Band Director will not be helpful we have already been warned. He has an incredible program going and I guess he just doesn't need the individuals who love music, but are not music majors - kinda sad. Well, she has a year before we know the outcome of this situation, but she can definetly feel for Ashley in having to make a difficult decision.

We didn't LET Megan work during school....and wouldn't let Jordan either, if it weren't just the teaching at the dance studio and couple hours a week. We've always told the kids that SCHOOL is their job.

Same for us. The kids are too involved with ROTC, Gymnastics, etc to add work to the mix during the school year. However, they both have to work during the summer. Matt worked at a camp this summer and Lisa worked in both my office and Jim's office.

Watched the Gymastic Nationals last night - those girls are awesome.

We watched too (big surprise!). We were also looking for Ashley (Bugs) Mom who is at the meet judging the Floor. We saw her several times on camera since she was the judge seated on the side of the Floor the Girls were going down the stairs at the conclusion of their Floor Routines.

Lisa and I watched it Friday Night. We agree with your assessment. Yes, Lisa spotted Miley Cyrus in the final dance scene too. She seemed to already know a lot about the movie, the lyrics to many of the songs, etc, so I am wondering if a lot of this was previewed on Disney prior to the actual movie showing.

(she starts 8th tomorrow).

Don't remind me!!!!!! Arrghh!!!

Elizabeth is furious because she didn't get her Spanish class... she picked Dance 2 as her alternate elective, which she ended up with, but she can't stand the dance teacher... she seems to think that she can march in there tomorrow and get her schedule changed... I just can't make her understand that the REASON that she didn't get her Spanish class is because there was no more room!!! I told her she could try, but not to get her hopes up...

The kids are both excited to go to school... thank goodness... summer has been WAY too long!!!

All the talk of kids and working... Elizabeth can't wait til she can get a job. I don't have a problem with her working during high school... I worked 30 hours a week and maintained an honors schedule... if they don't learn time management young, some of them never learn. I can see that by some of my employees...

So did we.

Bug's mom is there judging the floor. It was fun seeing her on TV.

Lisa and Sharon know some of the girls and coaches there so that makes it more personal for them.

But then I'm sure Sharon has already told you all of this.

They are watching the finals now.

That's okay, Jim. We like seeing you even if you don't have much new to contribute.
:rolleyes1

Morning All - Let us hope that Dean weakens and continues to skirt the populated areas.

Texas folks - have you dried up yet. the pictures of the flood waters looked wicked. Stay safe.

We watched the finals also - did not know to look for Bugs Mom, but then don't know what she looks like....:happytv: Still, the effort and skills of these girls is amazing.....

After a relaxing day Saturday (diving) - we worked like crazy cleaning the porch and critter cages....whew, it was hot out there.....

Now everything is clean and fresh and scrubbed and washed and, ready for me to say "I want new porch cushions". Oh well, always something new for the nest......right ladies?

Happy Monday all.

Well, I spent yesterday afternoon booking hotels for Lisa's upcoming gymnastics season. The two meets that are out of State and we might be able to catch up with some of you (because you live in the area) are:

Atlanta Crown (Jan 18-20) in Gwinnet, GA

or

Chicago Meet at Navy Pier (Feb 8-10).

Her other meets are in Charleston, SC, Huntsville, AL, Tampa FL and Daytona Beach, FL.

YAY!!! :yay: You're finally coming to Gwinnett! Tori and I will definitely plan to attend (I think Dwight will be out of town). Did you book one of the hotels near the Gwinnett Arena?

We are at the Holiday Inn right at the Gwinnet Center. I will PM you with phone #'s and the actual time she will be competing when we get closer. She is training to compete Level 10 this year, so if she is successful in that occurring, she should compete Saturday afternoon or evening.

Awesome! That's only about a 20 minute drive from our house. Tori's very happy to hear that we'll get to see Lisa compete! :goodvibes
