Now that Jared's home, the best I can figure is that one or more of his teachers "expressed concern" over Jared's sores. He also has a scab on his arm that the nurse was asking about.

So NOW I get it. They were thinking that WE had done something to him...like burned him with a cigarette or whatever.
Either that, or they're worried he has a communicable disease.

Now I'm rather ticked.

Geesh! You're on top of it. Mike got a special extension from Corey. He's working frantically on it right now. Seems like sick kids at the office (flu and strep) are taking a lot of his time. Plus on his 1/2 days we've been busy. Yesterday he had the whole afternoon off. Spent a bunch of time at the dentist, then picking up prescriptions at Wal*mart, then off to haircuts!

Btw, Mr. Perfect Teeth is BUMMED out. He's never had a cavity in his whole life. Not even on a baby tooth. And now he needs a root canal. And...it's not b/c of a cavity, it's because the nerve in his tooth is eating away at his otherwise perfectly healthy tooth! So he's a bit scared of a "root canal" but he's even more down b/c he will no longer have "perfect teeth."

So we've had lots of goings on here. But stay tuned. Mouse Matters should be up by morning at least.

Problem is, they are required by law to report anything suspicious. It's mandatory. Although, from the sounds of it, they didn't report you to Children's Services, correct?

Take Jared to the doc. Get a note (or whatever the school requires) saying he's FINE and take him back to school.

Yeah, we almost went that route today. It is just absolutely amazing that a 7th grader is smarter than me!!!!!!!!!!!! (insert neck choking smile here)

School nurses are an interesting group. Some are there for the power while others are just trying to be really helpful. We have had both.

Lisa story.......she is not feeling well and was sent to the school nurse. The nurse asked if she should call Sharon. Lisa's response, "No. I have not exhausted all my other options".

And people say I'm the mean one. Lise won't even allow the school nurse to call Sharon!

TRUE STORY!! Lisa said she knew my response would be "May I speak to her. Lisa, is there any way you can make it to the end of the day?" I know I have said that line more than once.

Another Lisa story: She was about 3 and when I went into her bedroom one morning, there she sat with Forest Green Marker on her eyelids (think Mimi from Drew Carey show), fingernails and toes. Funny story along the same lines....actually, I've probably told it a hundred times.....just before Jared started Kindergarten, the girls shaved his head bald. I have no idea why. But he was so fair, he really had no eyebrows and honestly looked like he'd had chemo.
I had to go into the school office and explain what had happened. Luckily, they thought it was funny. I didn't.

Oh....get used to it. Jared thinks he's so smart, he could do brain surgery. He absolutely knows more than the two of us (Jay and I) put together. He'll never have to go to college.

The stories we can all tell on the "school nurse" Betsy went to fall off porch one day and I grabbed her and her arm bruised. Went to pick her up from school and she had been taken into custody because of abuse. Didn't matter that she told them what happened. Not to mention she bruises easily. But it was okay that when her leg gave out at recess the nurse and teachers told her to crawl up the hallway if she couldn't walk. I just happened to be a volunteer that day and went to classroom to help and no daughter. Teacher had no idea where she was said she was playing. Found her crawling and crying asking two teachers who were laughing at her to help her that she was hurt. Needless to say the principal had a new hole in his closed door because he was on the phone making golf date. Betsy ended up on crutches for 3 weeks. But nurse said she was never hurt just thought she wanted attention. School now required to have RN. Momma Bear was mad. Don't mess with my cubs.

You don't need to own a cat to get ringworm. You don't even need to be around a cat to get ringworm. You can catch it from other people. Or from something that person shared with you (including but not limited to clothing, combs, couches, pool decking, shower floors, etc etc) OR from animals.

I know I know... I'm 37yrs old and I think I know that. I'm also a cat person, so I hope I didn't offend anyone with that comment. (I just can't have cats now (*cry*) because my son is allergic.) I just mentioned that, I didn't say this was the only way you can get ringworm. It is the most common way though... atleast around these parts! Sorry, forget I mentioned the cat thing.

Yep.
Same nurse that refuses to believe the injury on his cheek isn't ringworm, is the same one that told my son that his finger was fine (and so did his teacher last year) and no one even bothered to call me all day (recess was 3rd period at that time) and it turned out it was really broken (at growth plate and spirally from that) from playing football at recess.
DITTO on the don't mess with my cubs! I was furious, and it was the first (and so far only) time they saw the Leo come out in me... the absolute nerve of her. Apparently since he wasn't bawling and writhing in pain on the ground, they thought it was fine. Nevermind that it was BLACK it was so bruised and swollen to the size of a banana (he was 8yrs old at the time). Oh nevermind that, they didn't think he was really hurt since he wasn't crying. (same nurse who calls me to come up there and get a yoyo string off his finger- she didn't want to "hurt" him by taking it off... which I got off in less than 1/4 a second. So goofy!)

That is just awful of those teachers to stand there and laugh at her. That makes me want to cry.

I've utttered those same words MANY times!!!!

During Elizabeth's 5th grade year (my first year on the DIS... somewhere in this thread are my rantings and ravings from those days about this)... she had a horrendous teacher that was miserable to her... Elizabeth went to the nurse 46 times that year... and never ONCE did I let her come home.

So, one day during that year, Christopher tells me in the car on the way to school that he's got a stomachache... I tell him he's fine, and that it will go away. Fast forward 10 minutes... I have just driven away, and am on I-95 heading to work... my phone rings... its the nurse... Christopher crossed the threshold of the classroom and threw up all over his shoes.... talk about MOMMY GUILT!!!!!!!!

You all have had some great, or is it not so great, school nurse stories. Stacey, sorry you're having to go through that but I'm sure they are just following the rules. It can definitely be a pain!
