That's what I was thinking - WDW before the cruise!! I think it was also pretty hot when you were there too, wasn't it? Crowds + heat = :crowded: :crazy2: (that's the best I could come up with!!!! :rotfl2: )

Attendance has been WAY up at the parks. I remember when September/October was a GREAT time to go - no crowds. Not the case any longer. Guess the word got out!! I don't know *when* is a good time to go anymore!!

The trick we found, is to go often...then you can take the parks at your own pace and adjust if there are crowds....It is nice living close to the World...we are spoiled... princess:

Hey KikiKaren, do you have a spoiled smilie?

And that is part of it, a sharing of everyone else's experiences of the trip. No, including your own isn't mandatory, and it's up to everone themselves what pictures they send.

I included our pictures even though that quality is REALLY bad and they are all of our family (with the exception of a couple)! Sorry everyone. Lesson learned ... bring the digital camera next time! Don't rely on the still on the camcorder or the disposable underwater cameras.

He goes from the Handsome Handyman to the Roofrepair Fairy. Sorry Kevin, but that concerns me. :rotfl:

Please tell me honestly how the walk to MGM/EPCOT is? Is it something that is literrally out the front door? or are we talking more than 1/2 mile here? I am liking the idea of not having to use buses for these 2 parks..Especially with just me and kids and no other adult. The fewer times I have to put that stroller on a bus the better...
Also how is the bus service here? I have to admit we were blown away with OKW bus service! iT ROCKED! Although I never could figure out how to get back to our room once at the main pool bus stop with out having to walk down a ways to the 1st bus stop at OKW I for get what it is called.

I have NO idea why they lump so many bus routes together. It's like "Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Beach Club, Yacht Club." So if you happen to be on the last resort of the loop, you're going to get the scenic view on the way home. WHY do they do that???

If my memory serves me right, he's dabbled with "fairy" titles before. :lmao:

To me OKW works great for those people who like to drive. You can park right outside your building and many who stay there will drive over to the parks. The bus system here works well.

We love Boardwalk because once we get there we don't like using the car much. We love Epcot and having it so close is a nice bonus. The friendships aren't the fastest mode of transportation but they are a nice way to get to the parks and are very relaxing.

We're not big pool people so that really doesn't play into our decisions. We also prefer a one bedroom over a studio even for the two of us. :)

I use humor for lots of stuff....frustration, love, hate, anger, disappointment, sadness, worry, paranoia, happiness......

It's my end-all-be-all emotional patch. And cheaper than Zoloft! :)

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 And, thankfully, there's no 12-step program to break the habit! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I've never stayed at Boardwalk, so can't really give it a fair judgement. I have stayed at OKW several times and love it. It is very convenient to be able to pull right up to your building at OKW....esp. when checking in and checking out! I will say that every time we've stayed there we've taken full advantage of the bus system. No matter where we go on property we use Disney Transport 99% of the time. We do drive to DTD. We do drive to the water parks. But that's pretty much it.

Having stayed at the Beach Club, I do like the ability to be able to walk to Epcot and/or take the Friendship boats. That's part of my love for VWL---you can boat to the Magic Kingdom. :) Boating is always a fun option and something we don't get to do at home. "Hey kids, throw on your life vests, we're boating to Kroger!!!" :lmao:

That is really part of the beauty of DVC....there are resorts for everyone's tastes and prefences. I know there are some who would NEVER stay at VWL (who don't like it even though they've never stayed there) I say that's great.....b/c then there is less to interfere with ME making reservations! But really, we stay lots of places depending on the time of year or if we are taking guests. We LOVE VWL all the time but ESPECIALLY if we're going in the fall/winter or we're taking guests. We love OKW if it's a spring vacation b/c the atmosphere literally launches us into "summer mode." We love BCV if our vacation is going to be a "swim vacation." And we were really blown away at Saratoga Spring's amenities the last time we were down.

Speaking of....Amanda, why not stay at SSR?? :)

Yay, I love talking about DVC. Just keep in mind, getting to the Parks quickly is usually not on our agenda. You will learn more about this when your kids are older. We did try to get to AK at opening on our one day park visit before the cruise. Even so, we were at the back of a long line to go through the turnstyles, and Pam's family was at the front. Actually, you will find that as a DVC member with APs, the parks are not the entire focus of your trips, believe it or not.

I love BCV, love the location, love the easy access to two parks, love the decor, the pool, love the scenery there. Remember how thrilled I was to be given a water view over at BC last time? All the benefits, none of the drawbacks. Two big cons about BCV, the air conditioning is fickle, and the beds are horrible. You have to be really tired to sleep well on them, usually not a problem! Still, it is always my first choice. And if you have a car, you can park quite close to your room.

We have stayed at BWV twice, and neither stay was a good experience. Lots of little naggy problems at check-in, getting our luggage, things not working. We just figure that we have bad luck there, lots of people LOVE it. Especially if you own points there and can book a Boardwalk view at 11 months out. I;m going to trade some points one of these days and try to book it, that would be special. Our last stay was in a preferred view, and we could see....some bushes. Not really worth the extra points, but still in the Epcot resort area! Alicia has been to the clown pool twice, the last time only because her cousin wanted to go. She thinks it's lame, so she usually does a water park day from there. You CANNOT park close to your room here, in fact, you usually have to use valet (free except for tipping) to park at all.

We spent two nights at VWL before a December 2003 Celebrity cruise. Since Kevin doesn't really like MK, we don't tend to stay in that area. But it was lovely, our room was really big for some reason. Wilderness Lodge is gorgeous, but it was December and we didn't go swimming, so can't comment on the pool. Transportation by boat is very slow, even by our standards. I'd take the buses from there. Parking is not close, but is usually available.

Old Key West is vacation land, la la land. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, the grounds are gorgeous. Lots of lake views, and lots of different kinds of birds. Kevin loves it there. The kitchens in the 1 and 2 BR are amazing, as you know, the bus service is good, you can park your car by your room. The parks seem far away, but that can be kind of nice. Alicia and Lisa Burt tried the new slide last time we stayed there, and came back pretty quickly. Not much of a thrill, I guess. Beds are better than BCV, and they have wonderful new sleep sofas like the ones at SSR.

Which we have stayed at too! The studio we had at SSR was very big, and the beds were the best of the DVC resorts. Pillow tops! I would stay there again just for the bed. For some reason, Alicia really liked this resort. The DTD view is kind of cool, and we liked the restaurant. We didn't try the pool (December, after the 2004 cruise), and I don't remember taking the bus, we had a car. I have heard differing opinions on the bus service, but I think it is similar to the service at OKW. Sometimes you wait, sometimes you don't. Like OKW, you can park near your "condo", though for some reason the lot was quite full when we stayed there.

We just stayed at Vero Beach, so now we've tried them all! Vero Beach is quite nice, too. Good option if you have a lag between APs sometime, or just want a couple of beach days.

I think I'm the only one in my family that still really enjoys the parks. Kevin will tolerate them, especially if there's something new to try, or DISers to meet up with. Alicia likes them, but is never in any hurry to go. If she is in the middle of a good book, forget it. I think I need a park buddy that wants to go off season and enjoys hanging out at Epcot. Any takers?

One of my favorite movies way-back-when... I'll have to see if Blockbuster has it... I think the kids would like it. I had put that one back into the recesses of my memory bank...

(No, don't tell me to get into Netflix... nope... not goin' there!!!)

Ya know, you're NOT helping with my 101 reasons NOT to renew our AP's (all of them are $$...$$...$$... you get the picture) ... I'm trying to go a year without them... they expired on 5/1... not sure I'll make it with *desparate* people like you who NEED a park buddy...

:rotfl:

That is the great thing about DVC - something for everyone. I don't care for the beds at OKW - way too high for me. I really do like the resort as a whole.

We don't care for VWL because of a bad experience there. See others love it and it is our least favorite.

We love Boardwalk even with its faults. Yes the hallways are long and we've had a room at the very very end (but it was the best view we ever had). Yes the clown is a little scary but we aren't pool people.

We've only stayed at Beach Club once and it was for one night after the December cruise. We were so beat we begged them for any room they had open when we got there and it was a smoking room. The room itself was fine and I would stay there again.

We've never stayed at SSR but toured it at Member Homecoming and it seems nice. I would try that some day.

We've stayed at Vero only for one night but really liked it. Will definately have to go back.

Never tried Hilton Head but have heard wonderful things about it from friends and definately want to try it some day.

What she said!!

I will have to go back to Magic Kingdom one of these days, hopefully off peak times and spend some time taking pictures with the new camera.
