5/24/03

okay...now i AM confused! why is my clock reading 24 days and y'all's reading 23 days?

Hey there,

our clocks are actually the same. Yours ( i think?) refers to disembarking time at 5 pm and my refers to when we actually fly out of NY that morning ..... that is why I am 7+ hours ahead of you.

See ya soon.

Got docs today. I wish I could be more excited. Last night we had the high school band banquet. After Michael was not invited to be part of a weekend band leadership clinic I felt that he would not be part of leadership for the coming marching season. My husband said that we really didn't want him to be a section leader 2 years in a row. Well at the band banquet they announce the new band leadership for the coming year and guess what: Michael was named Junior Class Representative, so he is part of the band's leadership. We still don't know why he didn't go the clinic this past weekend since the senior and sophmore class reps were at the clinic, but that is the least of my worries. Today the band director gathers some of the kids in leadership and tells them that they are expected at rookie band camp the whole week. Rookie camp is the week after school gets out . Also this year on Thursday and Friday it will be full band because they are going to teach everyone some new marching stuff. Going to post on 2nd post so I don't lose this.

Michael really wants to go on the cruise but he does feel an obligation to be at rookie camp. besides when Michael said he was going to be out of the country for the week, along with one of the other new section leaders( who really needs to be there) the band director said that the two boys will over the summer will have to make up the time from not being at rookie camp. Also Michael is going to be gone quite a bit this summer until it is time for band camp end of July. I could talk my husband into going with Christopher and I but I don't know if he would and we have a fourth going with us, a friend of Michael's who I doubt would want to go on the cruise without Michael. Bought no cruise insurance but I doubt that rookie band camp is reason for cancelling a cruise. Checked Disney's website to see about another week this summer and the week I chose was $4000. 00 more than what I paid for the same cat room. Can't afford that. What to do.......................... Sorry for being so long but I should have known something would happen. Husband says have Michael go on the cruise and forget rookie camp but it is not that easy. This could affect his being chosen for section leader for his senior year, not going to rookie camp.

Suzanne

Husband says Michael is going, he is only in leadership, not an actual section leader. That the band director shouldn't expect that everyone has no plans for right when school gets out. If worried about having people there they should decided these things alot sooner and not 3 weeks ahead of time. Hopefully we will have fun. I told Michael that he can email his section leaders from the ship to find out how rookie camp is going. I figure that shows some responsibillity on his part. Besides I plan on getting unlimited internet to be able to keep in touch with my husband while we are gone. Now my husband has to drive to Florida to take Michael to panhandle as the boy whose parents were going to be in Orlando and take Michael to Destin, he made section leader so they are changing their trip to Disney plans.

Suzanne

Gee Suzanne, you have had a stressful few days!

When we all meet on the ship, please remind me to buy you your first drink!!

- David

Well, my countdown clock says 82 days and so do all the others on this thread.

your clock is reading 23 days to me....so are all the others. wonder why you are seeing 82 days? i'd be distressed too, if that were happening to me!

Thanks David. I am sure that by then I will really need that drink:cool: ! I guess that Michael and I are more concerned than my husband about his missing rookie camp. I suppose that my husband is right, that Michael is only part of leadership and not a section leader. I guess I have more important things to worry about, getting massage on Castaway Cay and construction around Valdosta on I-75.

Well, it must be something wrong with the dates on our computer. I'll have DH check it out. Phew!

But don't worry, I know just exactly when to go to the airport!:p

Our doc's were waiting for us when we got home yesterday! :) Now we just need to get the itinerary from our airline. That's todays phone call.

Decided to add a second countdown clock. Our first was timed to 5pm EDT on 5/24. The new one counts down to our flight departure time on 5/23...just 3 more weeks away!

i can't believe we're only 3 weeks away! i woke up this morning thinking about how much remains to be done.

question: for those of us who've been on before...what do you do during the sailaway party? my clan stands in front of the basketball court and blows bubbles.

second question: anyone want to join us blowing bubbles? we could have a DIS bubble-blowing sailaway meet-party!

Beth,

We would love to join you for the bubble blowing sail away party!

My kids have been practicing blowing bubbles for a few weeks now! LOL

Let me know... and do you recommend any special bubble blowers?

Did you receive the email I sent you the other day about signing Val up to the Yahoo group?

- David

...yes, i got the message on val and sent her an invite. haven't seen her respond yet, though. funny....not more than 10 minutes before i got your email, i'd seen her post on another thread and suggested she join us. i laughed when i then received your email asking me to invite her.

as for bubbles, i went to Michaels (craft store) and purchased wedding bubbles. they're in small containers, very tightly sealed, so they are easy to transport, hold and use. it is more than enough for the sailaway and each of us gets our own bottle to use.

...have any of y'all seen the mickey head paint swatches at home depot? i know i have, but hadn't thought about using them until i read someone else's thread about using the lime green ones for name tags.

it would be a cool (and cheap!) way to make name tags for ourselves. does everyone have a home depot near them to get a couple and make a nametag with your DIS name and "real" name. it will make it easier to spot each other!

what do y'all think?

We did the bubbles last cruise, too.... other cruisers were jealous that we had bubbles... that's what they get for not reading this board ;) Three weeks from right about now we will be leaving for the airport.. yesssss!

Beth,

I have seen those color swatches at home depot. I actually took a few of each color thinking they were cool stickers to put on the kids lunch bags for school. Little did I know that they are not stickers! LOL

So now I have one huge stack of them, with it seems like, every color under the universe with nothing to do with them... LOL

I'm up for any ideas!

:bounce:

Hi all, I just found you guys & wanted to let you know my family will also be on the 5/24 cruise.

Hey native,

we also have a private yahoo group going with over 15 DIS families that will be on this cruise.

I'm sure Beth will see this post, and private message you with instructions on how to join.

See you in 3 weeks
