We went over to magic kingdom this morning. Another supremely BEAUTIFUL day, with temperatures in the 80s, and a nice breeze. It wasn't TOO crowded. It was just that level of crowded where it isn't very crowded and so people don't pay attention to where they are standing and so they constantly stop in front of you because they saw something they want to take a picture of. The lines weren't too long though. Today is really going to be a contrast day to the summer days that will hit the magic kingdom in a few weeks.
We started out by visiting Mickey at his new place on the town square. This was our first time visiting there. I thought it was really well done! The wait was only about 10 minutes. I noticed that some of the posters on the walls do some nifty things, so you'll want to pay attention!
Next, we walked right down the middle of main street and said hello to the Mayor.
After that, for Holden at least, it was all about the ladies. MH still doesn't like face characters. Which is funny to me, because she'll run right up to Sully and Mike, or go straight to Capt. Hook and Mr. Schmee, and give Darth Vader a big hug. But the fairy Godmother or Mary Poppins? Not so much.
And MH was going to have nothing to do with Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drucilla.
We headed to fantasyland and did the operation dumbo drop. They are really making a lot of progress on the expansion.
Before lunch we also saw Mickey's Philharmagic and rode Peter Pan and It's a Small World. It is still weird to me how they turned around the que in small world, but really it is for the best if you think about it because there is more que space inside out of the sun.
OK. This morning's cruise on It's a Small World had to be a top 3-5 small world ride of all time. We were in the third row. In the first two rows was a party of seven - of those, four were adults and at least three had flash cameras. Which is certainly understandable. The bad thing was, the adults in row one really liked taking pictures of the rest of their party who were sitting in row 2. So I spent a lot of the ride posing for pictures in the background, which wasn't so bad except for that whole flash part. It would have been hard to focus on the ride, but the family behind us really helped with that. They were the ones with the kids who sang the small world song as loud as they could, and the Dad who was finding it a challenge to call out the names of countries whenever he could figure one out. He got most of them right. The group behind us really capped it off while waiting at the end, by reading "Good bye" in every different language, and arguing over which language a particular phrase might represent. Ultimately, though, I had to score it only a 9/10, because at no point did I hear a grandmother say "All the children are singing the song in their own home language." But it was still a cruise for the ages, and the mom of the group behind us almost pulled it out as a perfect 10 when she realized that the signs at the end were all "saying Good bye in different languages!" Nice try, ma'am, but the phrase I was looking for was "all the children singing in their own language," I'm sorry I can't score that.
While we were in Fantasyland I got a little fascinated by this bird's nest the bird had built in the base of one of the lamps by the castle.
I wonder how long that will last? I'm going to keep an eye on it.
After the small world cruise, which was much loved by our daughter, we went up to Casey's for some hotdogs for lunch. OK. They have changed things since I was last there a few months ago. They don't have regular hotdogs in the foil wrappers anymore, now they have big fat hotdogs in big hoagie sort of buns. Like fancy hot dogs. The menu is much more friendly to the dining plan now. It used to be, the menu listed the hot dog and french fries separately, and you had to use a snack credit to get a bowl of chilli if you wanted a chili dog. Now, everything is a combo meal with a hot dog and fries (You can still get just a hot dog, if you ask. Since June, the price of just a hot dog has went from like 4.49 to 5.11). Now they have three specialty hotdogs. Chilli dog with cheese, "Chicago style" junkyard dog, and a bbq dog. So if you want a chili dog with fries and you are on the dining plan, there's a meal for that. It is probably a better deal if you are on the dining plan, probably a little more money if you are paying as you go. Melissa said she liked the old style hot dogs better, I think I sort of liked the new ones. So the jury is out on that change as far as we're concerned. There wasn't enough places to sit around there, we were going to sit in tomorrowland terrace but it was all roped off.
After lunch we went to buzz lightyear, and some of our party ended up in inter-galactic jail.
Then we rode the people mover. It was a great day for a people mover ride. Then we went to use our fast passes for pooh. The kids wanted to see the playground so we played their a while first.
Let's see, then we went over to adventureland and rode the flying carpets and pirates of the carribean. There was this group of teenagers behind us and they were hilarious. This one girl kept saying "OMG this is AMAZING!" "It looks so big in here! IT'S AMAZING!" "THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING RIDE!" Then, in the scene where Capt. Jack is looking up out of the barrel, the kids started arguing about whether it was a real person or not. "THAT'S A REAL PERSON!" "NO, it isn't!" "IT's AMAZING!" I swear she said "AMAZING" like 30 or 40 times. I started videotaping the ride just so that I record them talking behind me, because I figured nobody would ever believe me about how many times she said it. But it was really, really, funny. When we got off the ride she said "THAT WAS AMAZING!" I sort of wondered if they were stoned.
There was a new character there. I think her name was "Angelica" and I think she is from the new pirate movie.
Then we started heading out. When we got to main street the kids wanted popcorn and we decided to ride the train around a loop. Great day for a train ride. I really sort of wanted to go to Tom Sawyer's Island but everyone was getting tired and on the cranky side. Chip and Dale were coming out then so we visited them and headed out on the monorail. It's so neat when a character remembers a kid. Or at least when a character is so good at what they do that it sure seems like they remember the kid.
