Hi Everyone,

Having just looked a the 5 in a one bedroom post today, does anybody agree with me, that DVC should try to make a distinction in the sleeping capacity between a studio sleeps 4/ and a 1Br sleeps 4. I realise that the physical space is a consideration and many other factors come into it but, it seems to be a lot of added points for the same amount.

Before any body jump's down my throat I have added this post to provoke debate. I come with my family of 3 to Disney for 14 nights straight every year and only have enough points for studios at present but as of next year we hope to increase our points total of 280 points.

Especially given that there are moderate and deluxe plain hotel rooms that sleep 5, and even Boardwalk Studio Plus sleeps five.

I expect this thread to be closed within the hour, anyway.

I've always thought it strange that both the studio and 1 bedroom have a capacity of 4, then the 2 bedroom jumps to 8. Seems like 4, 6, 8 would have been the way to go. I only have a family of 4 so we don't need any extra room but I always thought the 1 bedroom should have been 6.

but I always thought the 1 bedroom should have been 6.

Where would you put them? I can maybe see 5 with a cot, but six?

Two queens in the master bedroom and the queen sleeper sofa would do it. I too feel that the extra living space without additional sleeping capacity is a shame. But that is my humble opinion.

As a new member to BCV one of my biggest disappointments was that the 1 Bedrooms only sleep four. I think it would have been nice if there was a daybed for a youg child to sleep. Having three small boys of my own, I know it would have saved us many points in the first few years. That being said, we are staying in a 2 bedroom on our first trip home in October and since we had the extra room we are taking Grandma with us. So it all worked out for the best!

To me, this is exactly the point of having the studio and 1 bedroom as options. Those who don't care to pay the extra points for the extra living space have the option of the studio. For those who want the extra living space and are willing to pay the extra points for it, there are 1 bedroom units.

Do 2 queens and a queen pull out get you 6. Only if it's 3 couples and that would be interesting in it's own right. :D

mmmm - I like the king bed in the one bedroom. maybe it would be good if they had a combo of one beds that sleep six and one beds that sleep four. But, I suppose they would then have to change the points charts again. I must admit that it would be handy for when the kids get bigger and want seperate beds. Only thing is, that means we would end up sleeping on the pull out sofa and I really think I like that king bed too much.

There are so many ways they could use the same space to accomodate a fifth person in the 1 bedrooms... whether it be a rollaway, extra pull out chair (yes I've seen them), daybed or futon, there's definitely room to make the change.....

Coincidentally we recently went to an Embassy Suites timeshare tour & they freely give out rollaways for families of 5 in a 1 bedroom... by the way a week there cost between 20 & 25 grand, depending on your view selected... so given that, I'll say that I'm somewhat saddened that Disney doesn't offer the same benefit... It should really be up to the 5 person families to decide if they are too cramped... I do believe that 6 and up should certainly be in a two bedroom.....

I think that they meant to have a luxury vacation experience. I just can't see two queen beds in the master as a "luxury" vacation experience.

When I am on vacation, I don't want kids sleeping in my room and I don't want guests to be forced to have their kids sleeping in their room.

I also would think that there could be an effecient way to put 5 into a 1 bdr...that said we are stuck with getting a two bedroom for 6...I love the space though

Though I must state for the record that CRO moved my family of six from FW cabins to a studio at BW when my daughter was an infant....We managed because it was such a great up grade. Though I don't think I'd every want to put that many in studio agian....

StephenKay,
I would agree with you. I would like to see at least a roll-away added. This is not for myself, but for any family with three small children who don't feel they need the extra space. I also feel it would be nice for a family that has two children who don't want to share a bed.

You all will pardon me if I look at this more as a timeshare than a Disney hotel. We could adjust the occupancy easily and fix this problem. All we need to do is change the occupancy of the studio to 2 instead of 4. That way there's a difference between the studio and 1 BR where the 1 BR holds twice as many as the studio. While there are a number of 1 BR units out there that will sleep 6, the industry standard is 4 for a 1 BR and for a 2 BR varies between 6 and 8. Most newer 2 BR sleep 8 and many of the older ones sleep 6. Up until this years II book, II had all DVC resorts except BW exchanging for max 6 as a 2 BR as they obviously had OKW and BW mixed up. This year there are as many as 5 exchange size listings for DVC. The first number will be the private sleeping capacity and the second the total capacity of a unit. There are Eficiencies 2/2 and 2/4, 1 BR 4/4, 2 BR 6/6 and 6/8. None of these make sense as to the real situation other than the pull out in the second BR may not be counted as part of the capacity as far as II is concerned.

The only problem is if one is requesting an exchange to a resort that has both 6/6 and 6/8 2 BR units, it is possible to be traveling with 8 and get a sleep 6 unit. I haven't discussed this issue with MS so I don't know how it works in function but I can see a few potential problems. Lets say you change a studio and there are 4 traveling but you only get a sleep 2 unit as there are a number of resorts that have 2 types of studios. It may be possible on the front end to head this issue off but it still gives you one more thing to plan up front for and to worry about.

Actually Dean, we experienced a similar situation when planning our trip to Hawaii. I was unsure whether DS would be coming with us or not. When I asked about getting a efficiency/studio for up to 3 people (in case I couldn't get a sitter) I was told by MS that they could not guarentee me a studio that would accomadate more than 2 people. The exchanges only allow 2 people in a efficiency/studio. Guess we will be getting a 1BR (I am heart broken ;) )

Just voting.
5 is possible in 1 BR. Like and need the King bed, I'm on vacation. Maybe some 1br can sleep 5 for ($$), $10-$15 a night like non DVC resorts?

Personally,as a DVC member, I don't care if people want to fit a 5th person in a 1 bd or not.I don't feel it's going to affect the quality of my vacation at all. The only people to suffer the effects of a possibly over crowded room are those staying there and I don't think they're going to complain much.

HOWEVER, we all know human nature. If the rules are changed to 5,then why not 6,after all she's only 4 yrs old and we can bring an inflateable raft and she could sleep there...... yada yada yada.
Or when people talk about a little day bed because the kids are young & small, well, they get older & grow,do we start putting height sticks in the lobby like they have at the rides. It just opens a can of worms.

Someone else made a very good point comparing studios to 1 bds : The difference in points and size has nothing to do with sleeping capacity, it's all about luxury.

The difference in points and size has nothing to do with sleeping capacity, it's all about luxury.

That's it, the whole DVC concept is a luxury vacation at a great price.

I have to disagree about the luxury vacation.

When I stay in a luxury hotel, they make my bed, clean my room and change my towels every day.

We, the DVC members, decided we wanted value over luxury.

When I stay in a luxury hotel (other than Disney's deluxe hotels, but that's a whole different debate), I get chocolate on my pillow with a turn down service, and a continental breakfast in the morning.

When I go on a luxury vacation, I don't get a stove in my room - because who would use a stove on a luxury vacation?

DVC is about providing value to frequent Disney travelers. Its about Disney being able to create some up front cash and get some ability to project future use.

I'd like to see a fold out chair for #5 in a one bedroom, and then have MS and the SGs be firm about 5 in a one bedroom. None of this "member services told me it was ok" or "my guide told me we could stack 16 college kids in here like cordwood." And if you show up on their door with 6 people, they don't fill your reservation.
