Anyone at the Universal Parks for 4th of July weekend the past year, 2009? Looking to attend that weekend for 2010 and wondering about the crowds?

I have been the past 2 years and has been very crowded but we stay onsite. We will be there again this year.

Any holiday weekend will be busy but with Harry Potter opening this spring, the crowds should be much worse than in previous years. I think Express passes will be at a premium that weekend so staying onsite is about the only way to go to keep the wait times somewhat reasonable.

does the Express pass make up for the crowds? Is it good for most rides or any shows? Last is it hard to get food with meal deal or other reservations?

The EP will help with the wait times on the attractions but it will still be busy that weekend. The only attraction that does not accept the EP is the Pteranodon Flyers at IOA. The HR3 at the Studios does not currently accept the EP either but that will be lifted before too long I would imagine. If you're going during a busy time and wanted to get dining reservations, I would not wait until that day but rather try to call a couple of days ahead of time. I don't need to plan meals seven years in advance like you do at Disney. But keep in mind with the meal deal, you can not make any dining reservations and it's all counter service meals. The CS restaurants will be very busy that weekend too.

We have been 3 of the last 4 years. We expect it to be busy, but not overly crowded, like PP said we stay onsite, and makes it much easier to do the parks. Never had a problem getting a meal on 4th July, but we do not buy the meal deal, but never had any problems in the parks, if you wanted to buy it.
