40th bday help

DH will be 40 this summer and I would like to have a party for him. Has anyone been to a really great 3th, 40th, 50th bday party? What made it great? Was there a theme? Where was it?

I was going to ask the same thing. DH gave me a surprise 40th birthday party. Even after I said I didn't want one(party or surprise).

My DH didn't want one and I had it anyway. Dissers ripped me apart- well guess what he loved it!

I did a Mexican theme. It was outside in the summer. I had a Taco bar, Margharittas, pinata, Christmas lights on all the bushes and trees. Sombreros and maraccas as decorations. It was a blast.


Another one I went to was very creative. It was an Animal house theme. We all wore Togas. The host decorated by throwing trash and a mattress on her lawn. The cake said "Eat Me" just like the movie. It was very easy and a lot of fun.

Another was a hawaiian luau. A lot you can do with that.

Most peole just do it in a bar but i thought these were nice and much cheaper

We have done many parties for 40th (friends and family).

DP had a "kid food party." We had pizzas, chips, dips, etc... But we had a candy bar with all of her favorite kid candy - dots, gum, the two toned lollipops, licorice twists. It was great fun. We decorated with tons of rainbow colored balloons and enlarged pictures of her when she was young.

We had a friend in denial about his 40th birthday so we made it a 4yr. old party complete with Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Make your own pizzas and Sundae Bar.

We have done a very formal cocktail reception and sit-down dinner at a local restaurant that has private rooms. The invitation requested ladies in semi-formal dress and men in jackets and ties please. It was very appropriate for the person.

That is what you need to look at. What does he like? Would he like an over the top sports theme? Boating? Mystery theme?

Just find the thing he likes and carry to the nth degree and it will be great. He will love it and that's the whole point.

For my DH's 40th I threw a surprise party for him. I had it set up in the basement of our house. He thought we were dressing up and going out to dinner but when he came home to pick me up I screamed and told him the water heater had exploded. For effect, I even had a handful of wet towels. He ran downstairs and there everyone was!! We had about 50 people including the members of his band there all set up and they jammed and had a great time.
