Hi all - I've been reading the other posts about a 40 minute flight change in Atlanta. I also come in to Atlanta with 40 minutes to connect to my Orlando flight. I have an infant (car seat to go on plane as I bought her a seat) and a stroller to check, and will be by myself. Now it looks like I should just check the stroller with my bags and have to go that way instead of checking it at the gate and having to possibly wait for it and recheck it on the connecting flight. My daughter will be small enough to still be in the Graco car seat that I can carry while I run to the connecting flight.

Any suggestions? Now I'm worried I'll miss the flight

If you're transferring, they should switch your bags automatically. You dont typically have to go recheck your bags. 40 mins is plenty of time between flights with they way AirTran's terminal is in Atlanta.

Hope that helps!

We just flew through Atlanta on Friday on Air Tran with a 30 minute layover with 2 boys ages 4 and 6. Even with having to go from one end of the terminal to the other, we had enough time for everyone to stop at the bathroom and still get to the gate in time. We weren't there for the initial boarding calls, but we still had plenty of time to get on board.

You can go to Atlanta Hartsfield's web site and you can check incoming and outbound flights. You can do this a couple days a week prior to your flights to get an idea of what gates your flight will usually arrive at and what gate the next flight usually departs from. Flights "usually" arrive and depart from the same gates everyday, with variations only if there are weather problems, etc. The only problem you could encounter is if your flight arrives at Terminal C and your next departs from Terminal D. You'll still be okay, but it would be good to get a look at the terminal maps, where the trams depart from, etc. Do your homework and you'll be far better prepared than most. Air Tran does use both terminals!

Thanks everyone for your input. Thankfully, I still have over 3 months to figure out what I'm taking with me....my 2 hands can only carry so much!:cutie:

Not that I have any experience with this but you might want to ask someone to help you?
An employee to call and say you are coming or to help you carry the seat or point put exactly where you need to go?

That's a great idea, thanks!
I have a 41 min layover and have to change planes in Atlanta and was getting a bit worried if it would be enough time with 3 young boys.
So I checked todays flights and they have the exact flights I'm leaving on, times and flight #'s and when the are arriving and leaving from Atlanta. Sounds like mine should work out to be the same situation. Both from Concourse C so I'm not so worried now.

How can you tell which concourse your flight is arriving at?

We have the same thing, with a 39 minute layover in Atlanta. We have a 1 year old and a 4 year old, but will have our stroller gate checked. For some reason, I was thinking that AirTran was all in the same terminal!!!

According to the same flights as mine that are arriving and leaving today, both are from Concourse C.
Go to their website and check the arrivals (from where your coming from) and departures (to Orlando) and chances are you'll find similar times as what you have booked and you'll see what Concourse and Gate today's flights are using.

Flight numbers are not random. The same flights with the same numbers arrive and leave your airport everyday. So, if you are on for example Flight #123 leaving Newark to Atlanta, that flight with the same number leaves at the same time everyday, with the possibility of some variation on Saturday and Sunday. So, you can go to the Atlanta website and check Arrivals. Look for your flight number and your arrival time in Atlanta and see what gate it usually comes into. Then look for the Departure time and flight # for your Orlando flight and see what gate it usually departs from. Then go to the terminal maps on the Atlanta Hartsfield website and see where they are in relation to each other.

And yes, AirTran uses both C and D terminals! So, look for where the trams are located. In Terminal C, there are trams near Gates C21 and C22.

Thank you thank you!! I checked our flight numbers and got the gates that we arriving in and departing from. Thankfully they are all in Concourse C.

But I have a question (my apologies to the OP for my slight hijack)... It says that we arrive in Gate C54 and depart from C17. Now in looking at the map of the terminal for Concourse C, I am not seeing a Gate C54. I see C53 and C55, but no C54. Am I completely losing it? Have I gone blind?? Anyone care to guide me a bit?

Thank you for the info. We have been changed to a connection through Atlanta with a 45 minute layover. I've been worried because I need a wheelchair--not on the plane, but from gate to gate. Sounds like even if the WC is a little late we'll be OK.

I would not rely on this. Airlines do not have much staff available right now, and generally if one needs assistance one has to wait until the entire aircraft has deplaned before the GA has time to even acknowledge the passenger. They won't carry a car seat from gate to gate for someone, and although some have suggested in past asking for mobility assistance when one does not have a mobility issue, that will also most likely not happen. (And personally I have a concern about those who suggest asking for a wheelchair escort or mobile cart just because the time is tight ie that in America one must not prove that one needs the escort due to physical issues, and that takes away from those who truly do need it, like the poster above me)

I don't mean to sound harsh, but airlines book 'legal' connections and it is up to the passenger to make that connection. Very very rarely will a US carrier hold a departing aircraft to wait for late connections. I have run many many times to my gate, even when I was barely able to do so.

The best plan is to check the trend for incoming and outgoing gates, don't plan to stop for the bathroom/food/drink, and walk as quickly as possible to the next gate. Many carriers close the door at 10 minutes prior to takeoff, and will deny connecting passengers on board if they do not make it by then.

Hey, I don't see it either, but I'm assuming they snuck an extra one in there somewhere or the map isn't labeled precisely. Also, just so you know, those terminals are Looooonnnngggggg. C17 to C54 will be a bit of a walk. I couldn't believe how long those terminals were!
