Can anyone tell me what this 40% discount is that I keep reading about. Is it for certain resorts and time periods? Please help looking to go this summer.
Thanks

The code I got came in the mail in January. We had to book by March 31, so it's really a moot point.

Can you go late August into September? If so, as of this week, you can get FREE DINING--that's HUGE!!

See the link at the top of the resorts for info. If you don't have a Disney Visa card, the general date for booking is Thursday, so you haven't missed a thing.

How does Disney decide who gets the 40% off code? MY MIL got one for our October trip. I am just glad she is taking the rest of us with her!!! We have never had a code sent our way.

I sort of have the same question as the OP and then saw this post so... So, although you had to book by 3/31, still curious. Was there a choice of any resort and any dates in the year, even like say into Nov? Or did they have dates you had to pick from? Thanks! :)

My code came by postcard, although others have gotten it by email. It was good for any level of resort. We booked Deluxe; my friend got one and booked moderate. And the dates were limited, mostly to the slower times of year when much of the country is in school. The window we chose started August 10th.

My best suggestion is this: go to the Disney website, order the trip planning DVD. Then go to the reservations website and price out a variety of options-- everything from Deluxe to Value, for your dates. Both actions will let Disney know you're thinking of a trip, and get your info into the system. Beyond that, cross your fingers and hope for luck.

As an aside: are you guys AAA members? AAA offers room discounts ranging from 10-20%, depending on the resort and the season. It's not 40%, but it's more of a sure thing. We had the AAA discount before we lucked into the PIN. (Then we had to switch, since Disney doesn't allow you to stack codes.)

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for you info. Looks like I missed out on a huge discount. Maybe next time.

Thanks for the info. Was still wondering, if you had wanted to could you have booked sometime in Nov, (thinking vicariously, that's when I would have picked :) )? Wondering how restrictive the codes are. Like, if you call and have a code or pin, seems like they could be very limited like to a month or two that's not too far away and not giving a good choice of times in the year, where as it'd be great if the code worked anytime you could go or at least some dates availbable each month. Okay, wishful thinking I guess. That's hard to fit into if you only have very limited times you can go. It'd be my like I'd get one that's quite limited and I wouldn't be able to use it!

Anyway, I did call tonight to see if I had a pin but no disney magic tonight! :sad2: Oh well. The CM was actually very nice and seemed glad to look up for me. I was worried I'd get somebody who wasn't having a magical day! But, he was very friendly and said they are are always changing things and new ones come up all the time so I should call back often to see if one has been added. I thought he was really nice, even though he didn't have a code for me! :)

Oh, and yes I do have AAA. Have had it for many years and used it a couple of times for a 15% discount. That is after I figured that out. I didn't used to know that they ever had any kind of discounts! Anyway, I can always use that if I don't get anything else, though I'm hopeful about the codes they will probably release in mid Aug. Okay, done now - finally!

There was a list of dates; I have it somewhere, but not near the computer.

Basically, they boiled down to the times when things were slow-- nowhere near any school vacations. The window we chose started August 10, when many of the schools across the country are starting up again.(Fortunately for us, not the schools we work at or the ones our kids attend.)

So if there were November dates, they would have missed election day and Thanksgiving weekend.

If I can find the exact dates somewhere, I'll add them in here.

edited to add:
I found this on someone else's post... I think it was the later half of the group of dates on my PIN:
Aug 10-Sept 27
oct 19- Nov 1
Nov 9-15
Dec 7-17

Just out of curiousity (I don't imagine I'll get the code), we may be planning a trip from Oct 30 through Nov 4th - would they apply the discount to the whole stay, or just for the first three days?

I've read that with free dining, as long as you book by the last day of the promotion, it's good for your entire stay. So, I was just wondering if they do the same thing with these codes. :confused3

Mine came by postcard. It had the same dates as listed in a previous post and I had to book by 3/31. Since I wasn't locked into any specific time and can take my vacation whenever I want I just picked a time frame that fell between the offered dates.

Re Pin codes: Disney knows how people get picked -- they just ain't telling!

We received a 40% resort code in the mail last year - I think it was january or february ... havent gotten one this year, sure would like to get ahold of one. We stayed at WL last OCT instead of ASM ;)

I imagine a simple code isn't enough, but that its shows on your account. Probably made a mistake doing those surveys your hounded at every entrance and telling them we come every year.

I recieved 40% AKL during a peak time in July. They didn't tell me it was 40% off, I just calculated it by comparing normal rates versus what I was paying it it came out to 40 percent. I didn't have a code, didn't receive anything in the mail, I just called an inquired about one of the more popular resorts and was offered a discounted room at another resort. I took the discount and then called back 2 weeks later and asked if the discount could apply to AKL and it did. Not sure how it all works but I believe it was an "upsell." All I can suggest is to call and get a quote (calculate what the varoius levels of resorts would cost you online first, including whatever your adding on, tickets, didning, insurance, etc so you can know if you are being offered a discount or not) and hope for the best. If the quote doesn't work for you, try again later.
