If finances work out we may decided to slip in a week this year. DH works for an airline so we get around 40% discount (it used to be 50%). We usually tend to stay at the pop but this year we were thinking of upgrading to a Mod. I was wondering what would be better Free Dining or the 40% discount. There are 4 of us 2 Adults and 2 Children aged 15 & 13.

Well, the free dining saves you $41.99 per day, per person, so a total of $167.69.

In order to have the 40% work out better, you need to stay in a room whose rack rate would be more than $419.00 per night.

Since the mods are no where near that, free dining will be a better discount than 40% off.

If you stay at one of the deluxe resorts where the price of the rooms can be up around $450.00 a night, then your 40% would be the way to go.

This depends , when you plan on staying (time of year), where you plan on staying and how many people in your party.


For example:

CBR for 6 days during fall is 1,361 (Pirate room!).

Dining for 2 adults plus 2 children over 10 = 1007.76

For us it was 2 adults plus 1 child under 10= 553

40 percent discount on the room is = 544.

So you come out way ahead on free dining. For us, for our first trip, it was only a 9 dollar difference. If we would have stayed during winter, the room would have been 100 dollars more, so it would have been better to go with the 40 percent discount in our case were that an option. But not in yours.

Keep in mind that you also might be able to get tickets through the under cover tourist for cheaper than disney if you have free dining (can someone clarify this for me?), which might also lower your over all package.



At GF- 3139 for 6 days.

40 percent= 1252

DD= 1007.76

Coming out a couple hundred ahead.

No, because the OP's dh is an airline employee. Different discount program.

I also work for the airlines and for us it works out cheaper with the free dining at a moderate. There is me, dh and ds11. If you take the 40% off airline discount you can't do it as a package so all your meals are oop. We like to do at least 1 TS/character meal a day.
