4 Wisdom teeth pulled, can't smoke...Help!

I am sorry that I don't have any good advice for you. Just wanted to say Way to go! You are on the right track! Quitting smoking is by far the hardest thing to do, in my opinion. I quit two years ago when I was pregnant and it was extremely hard. Have you gotten any support or help from your dr? Good luck to you!

You CAN do it and I'm sure that you will. If I can quit than you can - it's hard but so freeing when an addiction is no longer running your life. Keep it up!

Good luck to you. I smoked after having four impacted wisdom teeth removed and the result was 4 dry sockets. And I was still in the Air Force at the time and the oral surgeon was not particularly sympathetic! It is a very, very painful thing to go through.

Giving up smoking is tough. I finally managed to quit about 2 1/2 years ago using Chantix. Hardest thing I've ever done. If you haven't got the nicotine patch yet, you might want to give it a try - they helped other times when I quit. And if quitting doesn't "stick" this time, keep trying. Eventually it will take! I can't count the number of tries I had before I was successful. And even now there are definitely times when I would love to start smoking again!

Quitting is a PAIN!

Many have tried and failed many have tried and been successful, I find you cant base yourself quitting off of them. You cant do it over a bet or for someone else, you have to do it for yourself. You gotta do it for yourself!

The biggest pain that keeps me trying again and again is that I work around smokers and that how they take breaks; so unless I want to be anti social I end up falling into the trap again.

Chantix is the best thing I think of but next would be Commit lounges. So if you have a hard time with nico craving run yourself to the local wal greens and get a bottle or two, should help you get though it.The patch did nothing for me.

I am trying to quit again this weekend so good luck to you, you can do it. Wish me luck as well, I know I can do the weekend but next week that will be FUN! LOL

Stick in there! If you like to eat like I do get it a week or two and then go to your favorite restraunt and see how much better the food tastes! It that after meal you gotta be careful with...

One day at a time....one hour at a time...one minute at a time.

My wife quit 20+ years ago and she has always said that if she gave in at any time it would be like she'd have to start the clock all over again.

The cravings lessen the more time that passes. They may never go away completely, but won't it feel good to know that you are the boss of this relationship, not the cigarettes?

YOU CAN DO IT.

And please keep posting back and let us know how you are doing.

See you at WDW with all that money you save!!!!

3 Days and still going strong. I am feeling a little dizzy oddly enough but I have had many more cups of coffee then I normally do so I am wondering if that is what caused the dissiness. DH said he feels the same way. Anyone know why we are dizzy?
I haven't had a smoke since 11;30am on Thursdays.:cool1: Its 1;51pm Saturday afternoon.
Thank you all for all the support and its nice to know I have so many people behind me. Thank you for sharing your storys with me and entrusten us with the things you have gone through with this struggle. Its not an easy thing to do at all and for all of you who have gone I take my hat off to you all bigtime cause this is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself. I am proud of all of you and I can't wait until I beat this thing and I can say I am a quiter too.(and my DH, he is the best) he could easily be smoking right now, the only reason he is not is for my sake and I can't tell you how much easier it is without him smoking in my face. We too have decided we are putting the money into the saving account and that is how we will pay for our vacations from now on. :woohoo:
Keep the info, storys and support coming. It is helping me so much!:grouphug:

Yoohoo for both of you. :cheer2:
The dizziness is probably from the effects of not smoking. Your bodies are trying to heal and rid themselves from the toxins. ;)

Keep up the good work. I am proud of both of you!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!

You are both doing great! Keep it up. Before you know it a week will have pasted then a month and when you hit that one year mark!!!!! Whhhooo hoo:)

Perhaps the dizziness could be from the extra surge of oxygen through your blood stream because the cigarette and all the toxins deprive your body from getting the oxygen it needs! I amnot a medical professional but I think I remember reading that smoking actually does this.

So your body may be finally getting the oxygen it needs and you are not sex to it. There are tonsof toxins in cigs so it is like a detox thing.

You are doing GREAT!!!!! :thumbsup2

We are all pulling for you!

I won't go into the long story about how I smoked since I was about 16, and smoked like a construction worker until I was 30.

So I found a book called The Only Way to Stop Smoking Permanently by Penguin Publishers. I can't remember the author but his book changed my life in about 2 chapters. I'm tired right now, but everytime I see a mom smoking near her kids I always tell her about the book, in case they want to find a way to stop.

ALLEN CARR. now I remember his name, Sadly he died in November last year of cancer.

His book is approximately 200 pages and cost $20 few years ago. Look for the older longer version.

If you really are ready to stop, find his book, and get on line and check out the kind of damage you are doing to your body with every inhaling of the thousands of chemicals directly into your lungs.

Forget about the money, you can always find an extra job to pay for disney, think about the very possible irreversible damage to your lungs and heart.

I actually used Allen Carr's book many years before both Ashton Kucher and Ellen Degeneres praised his writing as they quit because of his book.

Enough preaching, but another suggestion is to pick up some of the nicotine patches. They work great. Just don't keep one on when sleeping. Weird things happen. Who figured nicotine could have such strange effects.

I did not have withdrawl symptoms, and this author is virtually unknown. You absolutely do not have to suffer while you end your smoking.

I smoked for more than 15 years and continued until my dd was 2, and even smoked through breast-feeding. That tells you how hooked I was.

The book is called THE ONLY WAY TO STOP SMOKING PERMANENTLY, author is Allen Carr (now dead from lung cancer - sadly), penguin publishers.

Cost is about $20 and only few hours of your time.

I guarantee that if you really want to stop, his book will make all the difference, and you'll never want to smoke again.

When I see people smoking, even though I really believed all those years how much I enjoyed it, I really just feel sorry for them, since I remember how much I depended on cigarettes.

Others things that helped me before I read his book - go online and read about nicotine effects on your body - that's how I found the link to Allen Carr... and buy some nicotine patches to help you get over the habit.

good luck

Commit Lozenges and water- I am a smoker - I have tried many things to quit and I have to say, a co-worker was working on quitting- he had the lozenges and let me try a few- It really did work as far as the crave to smoke a cigarrette- I have a more oral fixation with smoking though and I am not a gum chewer or a candy eater- the lozenges let the cravings leave but I would want the "pull" of a cigarette because that is what my addiction is (believe it or not- and after smoking 19 years) I still haven't quit- mainly due to the environment I work and Dh also does smoke- but we have both cut way back and should hopefully be cigarette free by April when we go to Disney...
YOU CAN do it- this is probably the sign you needed and Yes, God is there to help you through this- By asking us here you are taking the right steps in getting the support- Track what made you smoke before- is it a "ritual" cigarette ... i.e. as soon as you wake up, right after teeth brushing, etc- If so replace that with a different "habit"/ activity until it subsides and if needed- pop a lozenge... the feeling will pass
Also, water is suppposed to help flush the nicotine from your system more quickly- so grab a bottle and flush away- also, commit to no more smoking indoors (we quit smoking in our house 13 years ago) Again, it didn't get me to quit (Dh did for awhile)- but it took me from smoking 2 1/2 packs a day to now I may smoke about 8 cigs a day- still too many- most are burnt out rather than smoked but to actually be free from the cigs would be a Godsend...
Again, YOU CAN do it!! We are praying for you & wishing you the best- also hope you are feeling better- (I also had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once) not for a fun week-
We're pullin for ya! :wizard: pixiedust:

I am so sorry that you are going through this pain at the moment.
My FIL in law was a heavy smoker for 25 years (he worked for a cigarette company). He gave it up cold turkey and he says it was without a doubt the hardest thing he has every done. He is now in his 70's and has been cigarette free for 30 years. I know you can do this.

I am sending you some big Koala cuddles.

Trish

Oh Wow! Hats off to you and your DH both! This is an awesome thing you are doing!!!

Keep it up, it WILL be worth it!

I smoked for over 30 years. It's been almost 2 years since I quit :cool1:

If I pick one up right now, I know I'll be hooked again. I still get cravings, but I think about something else, and they go away.

At first, I put the $100 a month in an envelope decorated with Disney stickers. We had a very nice vacation without going into debt for it!

Previous posters are right. You have to make up your own mind that.....

YOU CAN DO THIS!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

DH said that when he quit that EVERYTHING tasted and smelled better. He gnawed on sunflower seeds when he was craving.

Also - I spy 7 good reasons in your signature line for why you want to do this - yourself, DH, and 5 kids.

Just wanted to say YOU CAN DO IT! What a great start already and what a great lesson for your kids. Hope your gums heal up soon and your cravings lessen. :goodvibes

You can do it! Quitting is the best gift you could ever give your family.

Almost 3 years ago, my dad died suddenly from a massive heart attack. Besides smoking, he was in excellent health. He was putting away towels for my mom and dropped to the floor and died right there. The doc said he didn't even have a chance. I had to speak with the medical examiner and he said smoking likely led to his heart attack. I wish he would've listened years ago when I begged both my parents to quit. After my dad died my mom started smoking again. Watching her smoke is like watching a few minutes of her life get taken away.

I quite 5 weeks ago. It's still pretty hard. I think all the physical cravings are gone but the mental part is harder!

There are 2 or 3 threads on here that I've been posting on ......do a search on this board for "quit smoking" or some variation and you'll find them. It's so helpful to have others to commiserate with!
