SUNDAY 13th May 2001

Cast list: -

Me (Shaun) - Wallet opener, chauffeur and bag carrier
DW (Alison) - Chief planner, navigator and mother
DD # 1 (Alexandra 7) - Cautious, shy and parking lot number guru
DD # 2 (Laura 5) - Daredevil, chatterbox and sleeper

Mothers Day (USA), Animal Kingdom.

We were all awake at 3 am, but we managed to persuade the girls to go back to sleep until 5:45 am. We dressed and tidied up and drove over to OPR for breakfast at 7am. Nothing fancy to eat but DD's have Coke to drink for breakfast! - Thinks…….what will their teeth be like by the end of the trip?

Jump in the car and drove to AK and arrived by 7:50! - What is going on here? We are not early risers by nature so this is all a bit of a shock to us. We went into AK only to be halted by some CMs carrying creepy-crawlies in Perspex boxes. "This is a lesser spotted hairy venom thing" and such like.

NO!……go away we have a plan, we've been on the DIS and you're not stopping us!

But although some of the worlds most poisonous and scary animals do not put us off, there's Baloo and DDs go wild with their first character spot. The trouble is the CM "handler" is nowhere in sight and Baloo is a bit off balance. DD's and other kids think it's all part of an act as Baloo wanders around aimlessly.

DDs satisfied with photos and autographs and it's back to the plans…hmmm…..Kilamanjaro Safaris here we come! This is a good experience and we enjoy it - the girls look a bit overawed at the thought of poachers being on the loose and we have a quiet word in their ear to calm them down!

Next on the list is Kali River Rapids, so off we trot…..But wait……Asia is not open until 9am…..we look over the plan again……No one told us that it didn't open until 9am!!!!!!

That's torn it, off the plan already, you know, the one we've been working on for over a year - am I happy, no I am not!

Ok, get head together and go to Dinoland USA to do Dinosaur for the first time. Wow, what a great ride but much too extreme for both DDs so we babyswapped on this one. (Dinosaur ended up being our favourite ride in AK).

Still no queues for anything yet so jumped on Kali River Rapids. This ride was GOOD, and w the theming was great but we were a bit disappointed that the ride was so short.

Next stop, Camp Minnie Mickey with pens and autograph books at the ready. - still no queues and the character's were just wandering aimlessly at the end of the trails. DDs just went and CHARRRRGGGGGE into the characters. You could just hear them saying "Uh oh, Coke for breakfast crazed kids incoming!" - Pooh and Eeyore soon retreated back into their huts and I don't blame them.

Time to re-group so we hit Pocahontas (not literally) for a show that was better suited to pre-schoolers but hey, the CM playing Pocahontas was a bit of a babe! - Sorry DW. Moved onto Lion King show, still no queues…..this I like, the lack of queues that is. So we're in the Lion King show, very impressive. We end up in the Giraffe section and have to make Giraffe noises - now, I've been around the block a few times but never heard one make a noise at all…..but we were soon put right. DDs loved the show.

Exhaustion and hunger (and crowds/queues) had set in and we were well off the plan now (Shock, horror, gasp).

Off to the much maligned Rainforest Café as it was about mid-day. Well, we waited for less than 10 mins and had great food and great service! - not what we were expecting at all.

However is was NOT cheap! - Kids had hot dogs and chicken, we had burgers and fries and I had some Sam Adams Spring Ale (very tasty). Total cost about $57.

Overall we enjoyed it's food, service and atmosphere - nothing bad to report at all.

Stepped back outside……woooooof…….90 degrees today!

Off to Walmart for those "essential" items : -

2-way radios
Polystyrene cooler
Squeeze Breezes
Breakfast things - cereals, butter, bread etc
Sun shield for the car
Plus many other "things"
Oh, and beers - do I detect a theme here?

Why is everything SO cheap here?

Drive back to CBR with the shopping and big excitement from DDs. The maid had lined up all of the cuddly toys in our room so that they were looking out of the window as if they were waiting for us! - This was the start to a special relationship with the CBR maids.

Had a long swim in the CBR main pool and got drinks all round in the re-fillable mugs - that’s it - we've made our money back in under 24 hours - is this a record?

Popped out for a snack at Wendys and bought some shoes for DDs. Back to the room and crashed out.

Tomorrow, early entry MK, Villains Dinner.

Sounds like yall had a great day. Hope Walmart had everything you needed!

Hi,

We sure did have a good day although on reflection we should have stayed there all day.

Walmart had more than we needed but due to luggage restrictions we had to be strong! - LOL

I'm glad that someone's reading this as so far it's a bit dull but it does pick up soon.

I REALLY love your clip-art tribute to Sylvia.

Oh dont worry about your report being read. Its the weekend...everybodys out playing.:)

Can't wait to read your next report. I am enjoying them. :D

Thanks,

It's 01:45 am here in the UK and just started the last of the Duty Free - LOL

I must get to bed and not wake DW! - LOL

DD Laura's 6th Birthday on Sunday 10th June so I'd better scoot!

Tell your dd happy birthday for us. Get a goodnights rest. :)

I am another one loving your trip reports...I am following them everyday!! I don't think they are dull at all...I am fascinated by them!! :)

Happy Birthday to your DD too!! :)

Hi! Me again, enjoying your report, keep them coming. All the reports I've been reading from those of you from across the pond keep talking about prices, is it the exchange rate? Does that mean we're going to be in for a rude shock when my parents take the entire family(18 of us) to Scotland next April for their 50th anniversary? My trip in the mid 70's the pound was worth something like $2.60.

I'm really enjoying your reports. Thank you for taking the time to write them. We are planning on going to the Rainforest Cafe at the AK in August, I was please to hear positive comments about it.

Please keep them coming.

Great Reports!! I can't wait to read the rest. I laughed out loud at the Pocahontas comment! LoL. Hope your daughter had a great birthday!

Bonzo thanks for a great trip report. Laughed at the beginning when you woke at 3am. I can relate to that!

Bonzo, I agree about not being happy about Asia not opening until 9am. I did not know about it either. Sounds like your trip was great anyway, on to day three.

What a great report. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Animal Kingdom was a success! Funny about the characters being unattended; can't say I've seen that!
