My family and I will be crusing and we are all so excited to be a part of the Fish Extenders. We are 4 adults my husband and I, our son and his girlfriend. Looking forward to a great 2 weeks and meeting some new friends, sure wish time would fly by.

FE UPDATE FOR AUGUST 24, 2013


For all of you "first timers", here's an explanation of a "Fish Extender Gift Exchange" that I have modified from a tablemate on my April 2012 cruise who is also a Platinum Castaway Club Member and active DIS-er. Thanks to DebT!

Beside every cabin door is a large metal silver fish (or starfish or seahorse) with an indentation in the back for cruise personnel to leave information, invitations, etc. Teenagers receive invitations to Teen Club activities and we've also received "rebooking onboard" price quotes tucked in our fish.

DISboarders have taken the silver fish (starfish, seahorse) one step further... by creating hanging pockets (much like cloth letter holders) to hang from the fish (or starfish, or seahorse) - thus the name, "Fish Extender". The Fish Extenders (FEs) can be made of practically anything (cloth, plastic, paper gift bags, etc.), as long as they have at least one pocket that can hold surprises. Many are personalized with the names of those in the cabin and there are even sellers on ebay who will create them for you.

On each "Cruise Meets" thread (such as this 10-20-13 one) someone usually organizes a little gift exchange during the cruise. So folks, this time around that someone is me! People sign up by giving their cabin number, names of everyone in their cabin, and ages of the kids so that everyone will know how many goodies to bring and where to deliver them. Some people give one gift per family, some people give a little gift to each person. It's totally up to the giver to decide what to give and when to give it during the cruise.

There are several threads on the main cruise boards that discuss ideas for FE gifts. Some gifts are from Dollar Stores, some are handmade, and some are bought in bulk from websites that sell trinkets like the Oriental Trading Company. Often, they are stickers, candy, glow sticks, lanyards, etc., with themes such as pirates, beach, cruise, tropical, hometown, holiday, etc. The main idea is just to have fun finding little goodies in your FE throughout the cruise. Kids LOVE running back to their cabin to see if anything's been left in their FE. As an adult, I have to admit that I love it, too!!!

Deadline for signing up for the FE Exchange is Friday September 20, 2013. This will allow a full 4 weeks for people to complete any personalization of gifts that they may be choosing to do and ensure that there is not last minute stress just before the vacation.

I will monitor the size of the group closely and if it begins to grow rather large, we will look at dividing it into smaller groups if that is what is desired.

The main point of this is to have some fun while on board as well as having some fun in the preparation and anticipation of the cruise ahead. So let's have fun!

With the previous posting we are currently at 16 cabins with the potential of reaching 19 once I hear from the 3 people at the bottom of the list.

There are still 4 weeks left to sign up for the FE, and as we get closer to sailing, others will likely ask to join.

I wish to poll the current participants regarding how we wish to proceed choosing from the following:

1. Allow the FE list to grow and keep as 1 group
2. Divide the group into 2 to reduces the number of cabins/people that need to prepare items for and make deliveries

If we choose to divide it into two groups, some people may opt to participate in both groups if they are so inclined.

I have enough gifts prepared for 20 rooms. If the group gets any larger than that I would like to split it up. I just don't have time for making more gifts at this point. The idea of moving up the cut off date is ok with me, but I know from my last cruise that there will be people even the week before the cruise that will ask to join late. I hate to disappoint those with small kids, so I did give out a small bag of stuff I had extra (stickers and candy) to them.

Hello all. I don't mind up to 20 cabins (not that I have any idea if that's reasonable lol). Can't wait for the cruise now. It's our 2nd time at Disney but first cruise. Complete novice so any tips much appreciated!!

There is so much to do on the cruise. that you probably wont have time to do it all the most important thing is just have fun and enjoy the cruise. each cabin is allow to items to get signed at guest services.

Thanks. We are staying at OKW before the cruise and have the Disney transportation booked to take us to the cruise. Does anyone know what time they pick us up at? Just wondering what time we will get to the ship

I haven't booked any excursions for Nassu. We were thinking to stay on board and enjoy the ship.

Hubby is worried about the sea sickness, any tips? I am worried a bit about the weather as when we were in Florida in Oct 2011 we had two/three days of continuous torrential rain (oh well nothing we can do if that happens again).

Have Paulo brunch booked for 12 to 2pm. I'm not sure if the kids will be able to go the the kids club during this time so not sure whether to cancel it or see how it goes?

My kids don't know about the cruise, they now know (after keeping it a secret for over 14 months) that they are going to Disney world. Going to tell them about the cruise on the day!

Can you tell I am a little excited?
