My DD and I are taking a friend to WDW in January. We booked AP rate for Jan. 2-8, then bought AP vouchers for DD and I at the local Disney store (we will be going back in the summer), planned to order a 7-day ticket for the friend.

The new 4/3 package came out, we already have two AP vouchers in hand! We can delay our check-in date to Jan. 4, but we have to check out by Jan. 10, as we are driving from Missouri and DD has to be back at college on Jan. 12. So, it would be a 4/2 deal for us. Still a decent price, with the gift card, but I'm not sure what to do about tickets.

Do we book a pkg. with 7-day hoppers for the three of us, use them, then activate our AP vouchers later? Do we purchase 1-day base tickets for the 3 of us, save two for later, and upgrade the friend's ticket to a hopper pass? I've never done a ticket upgrade, so I can't figure this out!

Thanks in advance for any advice. I so wish this thing had started one day earlier, I hate not getting the full benefit of the pkg.

It depends on how you want to spend your money. In order to get 3 free days on the tickets, you must purchase a 7 day ticket (the 3 free days will then automatically be added, for about a $9 per ticket savings).

You choices are to buy all of you 7 day tickets, and allow the friend to use one and save the other two while you activate the APs. You can all use the 7 day tickets and save the APs. You can purchase all of you 1 day tickets, save two, activate the APs and upgrade the friend’s ticket on arrival.

What is the long term best use of funds is to buy 7 day tickets for all and save two.

Thanks for the response, rt2dz. So, purchasing the 7-day hoppers for the three of us, using one and activating our already-purchased APs (saving 2 for later) would be the best overall? I was thinking about this after I posted, and we will probably take another friend with us later in the year - we could use another 7-day ticket then, leaving only one ticket to use in the future. I couldn't figure out if it would be better to use the pkg. tickets and activate the APs later. Of course, if I did that, I couldn't buy a DDE (or whatever acronym it has now) card, right?

I'm getting a headache.

Without an AP you can't take advantage of any discounts or other perks like the TIW/DDE card.

I had to think on what was better to save the AP vouchors or the 7 day MYW tickets. Because of the discounts and the fact that regular tickets are raised at a higher rate and more often the APs (usually), I figured cost wise it was better to save the 7 day tickets. You can give them away (very nice of you) or wait until you need a new AP or other ticket.
