4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

Question of the week: What pets do you have and their name?

I had 3 cats - Tigger, Smokey and Shelley. Tigger and Shelley did not get along so one of my daughters took Tigger and I can at least visit him.....he is happy as an only kitty. So we have 2 kitties at home and they are very sweet.

Sandy

Our pets are two rescue dogs (Bindi & Sioux) that our DD bestowed upon us after our dear beagles of 12 and 13 years (Kinsey & Ziggy) passed away. The really funny thing is B & S behave just like K & Z. They have almost identical personalities and have become the masters of our house over the past three years.

Tick-tock-tick-tock...I wonder if that crocodile is still lurking out there waiting for Capt. Hook? Time is growing short!!!

We have 5 cats (recently down from 6). Salt, Pepper, Fudge, Carrot and Sweetie.

Sandy, my mom has lived in Oshawa most of her life and I was born there...small world.

It's 2:15 pm and still snowing.

I forgot to relate this little story about our "Q". Last night I thought I would try to get something stirring in our little girl's head about our upcoming Disney cruise. I got out the FE and showed it to her. I also explained how it works to her. She didn't quite get it... lastly I used a magnet and hung it on the fridge. I completely forgot about it after that. I thought she had too. This morning when she got up up though, before anything else, she made a beeline to the FE. My wife and I were both at a loss as to what she was up to. She grabbed it, started going through all the pockets and finally proclaimed "Santa hasn't come yet!". As you can imagine, my wife and I were both rolling on the floor laughing:lmao:... I guess something is stirring in that brain of hers.:yay:
Adorable! They are so cute at this age.

CKCruising - you poor thing! I thoght 43 was cold here today -- but that picture gives me instant chills!

the story about Q is pricless;)

Question of the week: What pets do you have and their name?

6 cats, no special type: Cookie, J R, Gumdrop, Hi-5 (mommie is the name we use, she is only teh mother to Gumdrop), Evie, and Trinity

2 dogs - Lady (mix of lab and malamut) and Gizmo (long hair chiwawa)

Mini hampster - Max

:laundy:

We had an older cat named Jessie that we got from the Humane Society when she was like 8. So we had her for a while and one day she did not come home, she was around 12. She either died or was taken by a fisher cat.

So we went to a place that only has cats to adopt/pet shelter. We wanted ONLY ONE kitten. They were cleaning the kitten room that was housed inside the older cat room. Inside this room, they had cat climbing things plus a couch, rocker, etc for us to sit on. There are three of us. One cat just came to each one of us and did not want to leave, even after we put them down to see other older cats. Well, we went into the kitten room and they all hid. But the big cats that had come up to each one of us, we ended up adopting. So there are three of us, so how did we adopt 4! :rolleyes1 One of the older cats had a son who needed to go together. So there was Dusty (she did not come home 2 years ago), Cookie (he looked like he was 2-3 years old but was only 6 months old:scared1:) Hi-5, mommie to Gumdrop. Then a college girl we knew of, had a cat that was declawed, and she could not take him to college with her, and her mom was moving away, so we took him - JR. Then a friend of Casey's had a litter and we took one of the kittens - Evie. She finally got her kitten. Last year, a different friend of Casey's had a litter, and the LAST ONE is Trinity.

Ages range from 12 down to 1 1/2. They are all indoor cats since I seem to have lost enough out in the woods. They all have their own personalitites.

One thing about going away (yes I will miss them) is there is no cat/dog hair all over my bedroom on the ship!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Rebbecca, I see you are a fan of manga/anime/cosplay. Is there anything particular you would like from Japan? We live in a small town, but I can usually get my hands on most things I want. We always travel with our suitcases mostly empty on the forward part on any trip so it wouldn't be any
trouble. Just let me know.:thumbsup2

Thank you, QRS!! I like Sailor Moon, Chobits, and Ah My Goddess. Chris likes Initial D, Ghost in the Shell, and Evangelion. Most of these are pretty old so if you don't easily find anything, don't worry about it!! :) Japanese Disney stuff is just as cool!!

Question of the week: What pets do you have and their name?

We probably have the most unusual pets. We have 6 rats: Oreo, Colby, Cheddar, Provolone, Roquefort, and Nacho. Yes, they are named after cheeses, except Oreo who was named that before we got him.

We also have 2 hamsters: Lettuce and Tomato. We used to have Bacon too but he passed away recently. So our BLT sandwich is missing the Bacon now. :( All of our rats and hamsters were adopted through rescues and shelters! We're huge supporters of pet adoption!

DH also keeps an assortment of freshwater fish.

Welcome to the FE list!!

Hi everyone,
We have 2 border collies. Lexi 11 who is from a cattle ranch in Nevada and Kess 9 who is from a farm in NH. They are very busy dogs and will herd anything that moves. They both play defense when we are playing soccer in the backyard:rotfl: We also have fresh water fish. Lexi hates when the suitcases come out. She knows we are going away and gets very depressed. Lexi we got before kids and Kess came after Amanda to keep Lexi busy. :rotfl2:

Someone mentioned FLT as a good place to use for ground transportation. When going through the online reservations do I choose "Orlando area" or "Cruise Transfers"? We need transportation to and from POP Century and the Port.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone.:dance3:

Robert, We are going to the port on Saturday using FLT, but they have to pick us up at 8 am (I wanted 9) but they are at the port for pick ups for the ones coming home. So you may have to leave the hotel early or around 11 am. I wanted to get their early, so I may have to sit outside the port for a while:rotfl2:

Silly :rolleyes1:rolleyes1 fe question: Since I've never participated in the fe exchange before, can someone share with me - when you prepare your surprises do you indicate who the surprise is from? And if so, how? Real name, screen name, etc, etc Thanks :worship::worship:

OK for those that want a brief on the FE here's something I posted for our Pirate cruise in March:

Hi All,

Here's some info on how the FE have worked on other cruises. Simply hang your FE on the metal fish outside your cabin door (the fish is usually used by DCL to leave envelopes, messages, etc.), a wire tie is helpful for attaching your FE to help keep it from "walking off" (use the wire tie to tighten the string loop that goes over the fish so the FE can't just be lifted off). FE don't need to be elaborate, we've seen some that have been a bag labeled "FE" (maybe the original was lost with the luggage??)

Those participating in the FE exchange bring along whatever gift, trinket, etc. they want. Some of the things we've received on past cruises include candy, postcards from home, a ziplock bag with paper clips, band aids, elastic bands, mini-post-its {all the little things you forget}, homemade luggage tags, little pirate rubber duckies, pirate eye patches, pirate tattos, glow stick necklaces, homemade magnets, bubbles, playing cards, etc. A lot of folks use Oriental Trading Co. or your local party supply store for ideas. Some of the best have been homemade.

Depending on what you give it can be one per cabin or one for each person in the cabin (especially candy); some give different things for adults and children. You don't need to make more than one delivery, i.e. you don't need a new thing each night (on some cruises there have been over a 100 cabins involved!!!)

When to delivery the FE gifts is up to those doing the giving. There is no assigned day or time, that is part of the fun - coming back to your cabin and seeing what has appeared in your FE. Some deliver early in the cruise, others later, some deliveries are timed to events like Pirate Night. We usually deliver ours on a sea day, it is fun to walk around the ship making the deliveries and seeing others FE and door decorations. (Hint: it is easier to start on the top deck and work your way down)

Some folks add their disboard name, or first names to the gift, others are left secretly.

FE are a fun way to do some more planning before and during the cruise. It started as another way for Disboarders to interact.

So have fun, be creative and remember the luggage weight limits if flying.

Less than 3 weeks till cruising. :cool1::cool1:

dvc2themax: we might need to finalize the list a bit earlier since there may be folks who will be leaving home to vacation before we depart on the cruise. How 'bout Friday, April 17?

Hi All,

I'd like to suggest the absolute final FE list be no later than this Friday (10th); that is 2 weeks before the cruise. That way those leaving early or those wanting to mail/ship to the ship still have time. Also, as we get closer things always get more hectic with work, etc. so that is one less thing you have to worry about.

Bob

Steve and I (Donna) will be the only ones going on this cruise. Son 21 and girlfriend came with us on 15 day Panama 8/08. We had an incredible time - always do on Disney. Incredible service, entertainment, food, etc. We have one pet (dog) Penny. She recently scared us silly and spend two days in the hospital - she's all better now thank goodness. It is difficult when you know they can not tell you what is wrong. The only time we ever had the need to board her was when our son became a Marine in 2007 as our entire family went to the ceremony. We have been DVC members since 1993 and we recently purchased additional points with membership attached to Animal Kingdom Villas. We will be going on another DCL cruise 12/09 and will stay at Animal Kingdom a few days as well during that vacation.

To everyone that this is there first cruise you could not pick a better cruiseline what you will experience will be top notch service. :thumbsup2

Bob: thanks for the answer to my question about identifying the "giver". I kind of like the "it's a secret" idea.

And I second Bob's suggestion that we cut off the fe list this Friday. How do the others feel about that suggestion?

I'm loving the pet stories :love:. Our only children have fur :cool1::cool1: and I love talking about my babies.

And Woo Hoo :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:, thanks to LSU playing baseball out of town this past weekend, I got our FE made!!! It has character, ie - not perfect, but I like the way it came out.

I think the 10th is good. We leave the 21st and that last weekend is going to be crazy.:scared1:

Rebecca...that is an unusual assortment of pets, but I love the names! How original and clever.

Our girls would love to have hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, chicks any thing we would say "yes" to.

And cats....we love cats! But DD & DH are allergic to cats...we get our kitty fixes on the neighbors' cats. Anyway, I love hearing the pet stories. They are just like children to us.

Hello all... I will be on the May 23rd cruise to Tortola....and since you are the first group to go... I was hoping someone could help me out...we are thinking of doing the Island drive and beach break or the Forest and beach is anyone going to do either of these and if so could you please let me know when you get back about them..you could PM me that would be great thanks in advance...Renee

We have 4 cats - Toby, Max, Abby and Jasmine.

Toby, who we swear has ADD. He will be doing something then stop and kind of look around with the "what was I doing" look!

Max is the "talkative" one. He let's us know when the food container needs to be filled (even though is it full but he can still see some empty space at the top). He's like Lassie - What is it boy? Timmy fell into a well?

Abby sucks her paw! Not her entire paw just the top of it.

Jasmine loves people food. She will beg just like a dog! Every Sunday when we have gravy for breakfast she gets her own small dish of gravy!
