4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

Great costumes Rebecca. Do you sew them?

Thanks!! I can sew but honestly, I don't like to oddly enough! :rotfl2:

We are definitely going to try to do the beer tasting. We're not really drinkers so we're already worried how drunk that will get us!!

I just finished printing 40 door magnets for our door! I guess you could say I'm going the lots-of-small-magnets route, instead of a few big ones!! :rotfl:

We will be meeting at the Promenade Lounge at 3 pm on the first day. Sandy also bought wristbands but I'm not sure if she'll have extra.

Thanks! I'll be there!

The cosplay thing sounds so cool! It's like make-believe, but more elaborate and for grown-ups. I love it.

"What interests, other than all things Disney, do you have?"

Not many. I love the Muppets (well, puppetering in general); the internet....um...I don't know. Disney is just my thing, you know? I collect pins (with a passion), I read Disney travel books (with a passion), and I make plans (with a passion).

And my mom is sick of it. With a passion. :rotfl:

Wait, just another question...is this the day we board, or the first full day on the ship?

Rebecca: Thanks for the wonderful video link. I wish I could have heard the singing better, but I got the jest of what was going on. It is "priceless".

Dh and I are not big "drinkers" - but I thought I might try the drink of the day each day - depends. DH may have a glass of wine at dinner. Or not :confused3 I do remember enjoying the Konk Koolers at CC.

As for other ship activities, we really don't have any plans just yet - except to enjoy!!

I still have all the packing to do (I'm having to wear some of the items I'll be bringing with me :rotfl:) and fe gifts to complete. Next week will be plenty of time to pack. I do have a box started of things I don't want to forget. And we have the suitcases identified. Oh yea - I still need to.......

finish the plans for my Dh's 50th birthday party on Saturday - this week :scared1::scared1:

Congratulations to Lisa for posting the 1000th post!!

Tomorrow will be our 10 days and counting day :dance3::dance3::dance3:
I'm sure there will be some serious dancing. We leave on Friday, the 24th!

We found this website this afternoon for the skyride at St Thomas.

http://www.stthomasskyride.com/location.html

They also have a webcam. We can't wait to ride the skyride :yay:

So funny... I just looked at this too. You beat me to posting!

This is probably what we will do too. I'm a little unsure of how the taxis work. Honestly , I am not well travelled, and because there are 6 of us (three kids), I'm not sure we can fit into one cab. So we''ll see when we get there.

I have been told to go to the K Mart in St. Thomas for a great prices on booze. ( Just follow all the crew!)

DH and I attend anime cons and I cosplay (or dress up) as various anime/video game/comic book characters. We also collect statues and figures from our favorite series. We watch a lot of TV and our favorite shows are "Heroes", "LOST", "The Office", as well as others. We also like to eat out and try different restaurants. DH is also an import car enthusiaist.

I am a "Lost" and "The Office" fan also. We don't watch much TV but these are on our auto record list:thumbsup2

Hey Rebecca -- that was adorable ! LOL. I want to see you walking around the ship in your costume now :) Thanks for the giggle.
Sandy

I agree!!! Rebecca, your skit was absolutely fantastic! I'm assuming everyone in your skit is from your area? I am fascinated by the whole thing. How fun and hope we can talk about it on the ship.

We don't have many plans for onboard activities. We have a couples massage booked and will probably try the different tasting sessions. Oh, and I would like to do tea with Wendy which I understand we have to sign up for. The girls and I like to play Bingo. DD got excited when she saw the movie selection previously posted. I don't remember Konk Koolers at CC...maybe I missed something? I'm going to look up some past navigators to get an idea of what is happening on the 7 day cruises.

Just need to get through tomorrow, which may well be my last day of work until we get back:dance3: I need to finish my FE gifts and start packing. Do a few more magnets...

A party the week before you sail! You are a brave woman! I don't know if I could do it all. Your special DH has a special DW.

I don't usually do sky ride types of activities, but we may do this one also. We are still very much up in the air as to what to do on St. Thomas.:confused3 I think a few people may have booked this one. Did everyone book this through Disney or on their own?

Everyone have a magical day!

Hi Everyone,

i am sure you are all getting really excited about your cruise as it is coming around really fast!

I am booked on the August 15th Tortola cruise so will await your reports with interest.

I wondered if someone would mind doing me a favour. I have a 19 month old and I am trying to find out what times Flounders is likely to be open on our cruise so I can plan things like Palo brunch and some time with our older child also I know the leaflet also lists what excursions can be taken while your child is in Flounders.

Here on the Dis there is a copy of a flounders opening times sheet

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/photos/Flounders-Reef-Nursery.html

but it is for an old Western. If anyone had chance I would love if someone would pick up the opening times leaflet and scan it in \ post a photo on their return.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me.
Have a great cruise :)

Just need to get through tomorrow, which may well be my last day of work until we get back:dance3:

Linda

How lucky are you! I have until next week. We leave Wednesday the 22nd.
Have a great time!

I booked the sky ride ride through Disney. It was the same price as booking from the company direct. It says " All day" - no meeting time. Anyone know how we get there? Walk? ( I hope) or take a cab? Anyone know for sure?:confused3

Most of them live in Southern California. I used to live in LA before moving to Texas 2 years ago. :)

From my research, the sky ride is very close to the port and it easily walkable. I'm assuming they will give you directions on how to walk there on your own.

I wish we were leaving this week! We are not leaving until the 24th so no fun time in Disney World for us this trip. I just don't have any work scheduled until the first week of May.:thumbsup2 But that could change with a phone call. I am a subcontractor in construction. It has slowed down, but since I am the final person through and get the properties ready for occupancy, I am sometimes the last to know and get frantic phone calls at the last minute.

I saw the map on the website and it looked fairly easy to walk to...the length of a very large cruise ship according to the map? http://www.stthomasskyride.com/location.html Looks like you can do this and take another short tour also.:confused3

Here is the direct link to the map http://www.stthomasskyride.com/map.html
It really close to the port so you should be able to walk there.

Leaving tonight, a little golf in florida and then Vero Beach Resort before the cruise.

I took the Magic to St Thomas a few years ago and I remember the tram being right by the ship. My sister and I did a boat to St. John and got back to the ship around lunch time. We changed and took a jitney town in St Thomas. We walked right past the tram. The jitneys hold a number of people and there are a lot of them and they leave right at the ship as I recall. You can go into town and grab one back - I forget the cost but it was cheap. It's an interesting experience - the roads are crowded.
I'm terrified of heights or I would consider it - it looks nice and it sounds like you can spend as little or as much time at the top as you want.

Tomorrow - laundry and getting started on the packing - :dance3:

Oh --a warning to those who don't drink much - I did the tequila tasting the last time and I'm not really a drinker -- my quiet table of people was very noisy by the end of the tasting and my sister and I sloshed back to our cabin and napped......:rotfl: - - we had fun tho.:woohoo: I was going to do the martini tasting this time but I think I'll skip it. I like Bingo.

As for tv shows - - I love Lost and American Idol. Gary likes those plus House and 24.

Sandy

Hi Everyone,
We have a late flight home on Sat 6:55pm when we get back. I thought we might do Kennedy Space Center. I have also heard that Ron Jon's Hotel is very nice. Does anyone know if they have a day pass. I'm thinking something a little more relaxing than hoofing it around KSC. Anyone else have a late flight. Didn't think it was enough time to go up to WDW for the day, but maybe Downtown Disney if we can't get there earlier in the trip. Anybody ever hit crazy traffic headed back to MCO on Sat afternoon????

Thanks
PS Lisa pictures look great so far!!
We are huge Lost and Heros fans. Love that DVR.

Welcome Aboard!

I am hoping for a Palo ressie also. We booked late and everything was already booked. It is my understanding that we can check on reservations upon check-in..don't know exactly where to check on Palo reservations, or where to sign up...someone here probably knows. When we had our Palo Brunch reservations last trip, Palo was probably only 1/3 full if that. We were surprised. They even turned a couple away that didn't have reservations, but it was full to capacity at all. So I was surprised that there were no reservations when I booked.

Our girls are the same age! Hope we can meet up.

Linda

Just wanted to pop in and say that those of us heading to Tortola on the May 23rd cruise will be anxiously awaiting any reports!!

It IS an easy walk to the Sky Ride. After exiting the port shopping area, outside the fence, you just turn left and keep walking. You can't miss it. I don't think it even took us 5 minutes to get there. :thumbsup2

I think it's at the Rockin' D Bar when you get onboard. From what I read, not all of the reservations are available online, so there are always some that first day.

Our flight back is at 4:40 pm. We currently have DCL transfers but I'm toying around with the idea of getting a rental car and going to Downtown Disney before the airport too.

According to the Passporter book, you can easily spend 2 days at the Space Center so I don't want to go there for only a few hours and feel like I didn't get to do everything.

Another option is beaches near the port but considering DH already doesn't like beaches that much and we're visiting one at each port of call, I think we'll be beached out at that point!
