4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

I've tried the 21st, the 22nd, and the 23rd PHL to BCN for 4 seats on USAirways.com and it all shows sold out or not available. Not sure why others are able to see seat availability

Have you tried looking for two seats? You fly with one child, your DH with another. Not the most convienent, but it might get you there.

Well, we woke up this morning to find that our flight for today has been cancelled. I don't want to have to tell my son when he gets up that we are not going but I'm not having any luck with finding a flight to Europe before Monday. It is going to be a very long and sad day around this house. FOr the families that are able to make it to the ship have a great time.

Well, we were flying Aer Lingus through Dublin. I just got off the phone with them and they can't get us to Barcelona or Madrid until Monday. Doesn't work so they have refunded our money.

Oh well, can't continue to sob over not going. Have to pick up the pieces and do something fun today.

I'm sorry to hear about the continued cancellations. Don't give up hope just yet. Amsterdam is opened now. The flights here in Singapore to Amsterdam are showing as re-timed rather than the cancelled that is showing for the rest of the European cities. Rome I think is also open again.

It sounds insane, but try Morocco again. I found cheap flights from there into Spain.

We've arrived safely in Singapore and were relieved to find out that our flight to Barcelona is departing in 2 hours as scheduled. After continued persistance at the moment we got our original flight! We are all separated but very grateful that we are on. They are trying to help us so that someone else won't be stuck with my 18 month old.

Once again, praying and sending heaps of pixie dust to everyone who needs to get to Barcelona.

So happy to hear things are looking good, "A" would have been very disappointed to hear his new friends couldn't make it. He often talks about seeing them at kids club. Hope you have a smooth flight!

I am glad that you safely made it to Singapore. Lets hope that the second leg of the journey is a charm.

BBC news is reporting that the winds are shifting towards North America and sending the ash our way. Luckily, it appears to be headed towards low population/traffic areas in Labrador and Northern Quebec.

Just checked the forecast for our ports. Looks good - mostly sunny & daytime highs of:

Tunis 22-24
Naples 24-25
Rome 23
La Spezia 23-25
Corsica 23
Monaco 23

I don't see availability at US Air either and I've tried their site many times and so many other web sites including looking at other airports that we could drive or take a train from that are within a reasonable distance. We also need 4 seats so would love to know who is seeing seat availability on US Air over next few days unless in reality there is 1 seat on a flight or two.

We have talked with American several times this morning. As much as they are helpful and try, given the discussions we are not optimistic that something is going to break loose. Disney won't put us on the May 5th cruise. We've tried that already as we could swing that. And they indicated that we are likely months in going through a refund process is what they are hearing though they don't know as its another company (I wonder if there are so many claims expected that there could be a huge backlog driving that). We already know that worse case scenario is Disney will step in and honor a credit for a future cruise since we did the trip insurance with them.

I hope you find something. We keep looking and still "wishing for a miracle". For those that haven't gone yet, good luck. This is a wonderful cruise and I hope everyone has a nice time.

I know if we can find a way to get to Barcelona in time, we will be ready to have a good time.

Has anyone checked the the flights via Germany?

And I'm telling you, Royal Air Maroc. Casa is probably closer to Barcelona than Frankfurt or Paris and you'll be coming in from the south if you fly from Casa to Spain.

Belinda- glad you made the first leg successfully, and I'm sure someone will give up a seat to avoid your sweet baby.

Have to pack last minute things, get a shower, and get out of the house by 2:00.

So I hope to see you all on the ship on Saturday, and will try to check in once we get to Barcelona.

I tried 1 adult, 1 child - I found nothing on US Air site. Good idea though for thinking outside the box on options to get there.

Though I'm not sure I would want to split us up and end up with only some of us make it if they did have 2 seats on 2 different flights. It would be my luck that only part of us would make it.

I'm sorry the US Air flight is not working-I had tried two adults and then just clicked on the view seats and it showed 4 seats available-but it may just be a computer glitch. Try typing in ITA Flight Search in google-this website shows several airlines at once and you can then go to the individual site to check availability. Several airports are opening back up-so availability is constantly changing...
