First, thanks to Pete and the Crew for their weekly podcasts. I have always enjoyed the back and forth and the great information.

On today's podcast, I found some points that I would like to address. This is from the view point of a non-Disney associated person. I am a yearly visitor who lives many miles away and must fly to Florida. We save to be able to go to Disney every year, like many other people. So, this is a viewpoint from someone who is a fan but doesn't have lots of Disney insider knowledge. I am just someone who enjoys going to our favorite place to visit, WDW.

There are a few things that I would like to expand on or offer a different take on the subject:
1) It was brought up that temps would probably have to be taken to get into the parks. That sounds fine, but I don't know how that will work in the real world. Ex: You pay thousands for flights and room and board and tickets. You get to the entrance and you might have a low grade fever (who determines what temp they will use to deny entrance?). That could be from only drinking a hot beverage before entering? or if the outside temp is hot and you got warm from you hike from the parking lot, or some other physical reason? I think this could get dicey as the person is asked about the origins of this? Disney can't even ask over one or two questions about service dogs due to laws.
That brings up the discussion of face masks. It sounds easy, just wear one or just stay home?? Some people honestly cannot abide wearing them for whatever reason. An who can keep one on during Florida's heat and humidity?
I can see signing some form of release paper on Disney's part. THAT I think is reasonable and covers them.
The argument comes up that at some point people need to have personal responsibility, just like they have had before. Ex: washing hands frequently, not using handrails, coughing in the elbow, hand sanitizers, etc, etc. These things have been done before. At what point does it have to be mandated? Things are going to open up eventually and people will go back to personal responsibility in these regards. Most people adhere to personal responsibility in these situations, and there will always be those who do not.

2) AS far as Japan's culture and ours? Not the same thing. They are a small country that is over populated. They have been wearing masks for a long time. The health marking or tattooing on their bodies is not something our country would tolerate. Think about it. It works for Japan's culture, but not for our country. IMO I don't think you can just expect to adopt another countries way of life, when we are two completely different cultures with different values and freedoms.

3) As far as Disney reopening next year, I don't see it either. Disney needs to make money and therefor the parks will open ASAP, IMO. They can't afford to wait a long time. And theme parks are a different animal than other vacations (ie the beach, etc) and will find it difficult to impose some rules on their paying customers. Just my opinion again .

These are just a few of the things that I thought of while the podcast was going on, right or wrong, but I feel worth discussion.
Again, I enjoy the weekly podcasts and the work that all of you do. Pete's imput on controversial issues is always appreciated, as well as the discussions by the cast. This is just another viewpoint of questions that came up to ME during the podcast.

Of course Disney doesn't want to be closed but they don't have much of a choice. Disney also can't just open as normal though either. They are going to open when safely to do so but in a way that isn't as our normal before this. They will have to impose rules when they reopen there is no way around that. I fully expect fireworks and parades to not happen or be very limited.

For what it's worth, DCL was screening guest's temperatures prior to embarking their ships in the weeks leading up to the suspension of sailings, and it didn't seem to cause many issues at all. Some parks in Asia (like Universal Studios Singapore) were also having success with the temperature checks. My understanding is that both those parks and DCL set a standard of 100.4 degrees and above as a fever. There is no scientific evidence that drinking a hot beverage or even engaging in a reasonable level of physically intense activity (that you'd be typically be doing in or around a theme park) would result in a temperature above 100.4 degrees. If you scan above that, they'll probably have you sit and wait for 15 minutes and try again. Sorry, but if you're maintaining a temperature of over 100.4 degrees after 15 minutes, you're sick. They don't have to ask you any questions; they don't need any more information than that. Yeah, it sucks that you'd be out all that money (Disney might try to refund your park tickets), but the same thing happens if you get sick right before you travel and can't go. Unless you've bought travel insurance, you're out of luck generally speaking. And again, I defer back to the instances before the closures where they were using these screenings and we didn't hear about many issues. With DCL, you were flat up denied boarding. At least at WDW, they could just send you back to your hotel room (provided they're not taking temps upon check-in at WDW). Unfortunately, that's the reality of where we are. If you don't want to have your temperature taken, then you shouldn't go.

Actually you can, but the issue is that many Americans don't care. Many don't understand that we are only as strong as the weakest link. America is just too selfish to conquer this virus. Look at the people carrying rifles and "protesting". They are legit protesting because they don't want to save humanity? Think about the train of thought that must come from. Look at the crowd protesting? Do you think they care about the fact that black women are at the highest rate to die from this? That our elderly are possibly going to lose care when it becomes time to choose whose worth saving? There is a reason other countries have been successful, they are lead by intelligent and empathic people and therefore they are doing what is right. We sadly are not. Our medical system isn't built to help the poor, we were always going to fail at this. We simply lack a culture of caring and love for all.

What health marking or tattooing are the Japanese doing? Tattoos in Japan are frowned upon because they are related to organized crime there. So I have no idea what you are talking about.

I am for the mask idea but I do wonder about the practicalities. What if you have an ice cream cone, hot coffee or popcorn, can you walk around the park as you indulge sans mask? So as long as you have food in hand are you exempt? Or would you need to consume any food quickly before leaving that food cart?

I know this seems trivia, but I wonder about it, especially where snack credits are a big part of dining plans and the Disney experience.

Even drinking enough water to stay hydrated, I think you would be touching the mask/face constantly negating the benefit.

well you won’t be back, but my point was it kind of defeats the purpose of wearing it if you constantly take it off.

I agree. Everything I have read says not to touch your mask except to remove one or put a clean one on. I found some fabric around the house and I am hoping to get 24 masks out of it, so I can wear one in the morning, remove it long enough to eat lunch someplace where I can distance, and put a clean one on for the afternoon. I usually go back to the resort for dinner, so I can get something to go on the way to the room, where I can remove the afternoon mask and sterilize my hands. It will take the fun out of snacks though, since technically every time you snack you should be replacing your mask. That’s why I am making a few extra.

I have a feeling you are going to be required to eat in one place and not on the run for the time being. I can see the food carts not out for the time being.

I still don’t understand why Pete is so hard on ABD. I agree, they haven’t been great but aren’t they way ahead of cruise line on cancellations currently???

Why he keeps calling DCL wonderful but wanting to unseat ABD leadership doesn’t make any sense to me. There isn’t that much daylight between their reactions. It just seems Disney is taking their time on all fronts but eventually making guests whole.

I agree. What they should be on them for is allowing people to rebook starting June 1st. If the rumored measures are implemented a lot of people will have to rebook again.

I can't speak for Pete but, any Disney vacation is a very expensive proposition. An ABD vacation is a whole different animal. These are truly once in a lifetime trips for most family's and very expensive. I just don't think that any ABD discussion is appropriate at this time and I believe that was why Pete was hesitant.

Totally and completely agree with you.

This is misinformation.

ABD has currently canceled all trips through June 30st. 2020.

You can book any trip scheduled to go after June 30th.

There is a chance any trip may be canceled.

Thats true of WDW, DCL, DL and ABD.
