4/21/20 podcast

This is misinformation.

ABD has currently canceled all trips through June 31st. 2020.

You can book any trip scheduled to go after June 30th.

There is a chance any trip may be canceled.

Thats true of WDW, DCL, DL and ABD.
I was talking about Disney resort vacations and starting rebooking for June 1st. The chances of then opening by June is low especially if the rumored measures do happen. There is going to be a lot of upset people.

While I understand both "sides" of the ABD debate, I'm more inclined to side with the "clear communication" camp. One of the reasons Disney is able to charge the prices it can over its competitors is because of its brand reputation ("Leave it to Disney-Dependability" as they market it), so along with all of the other "elements" of my vacation, I also expect a level of guest service that is far above their competitors at all steps in the process, and clear communication is at the heart of that. I understand I'm in the minority of this but I also think that if Disney cancels an ABD, then my money should be promptly refunded. I didn't cancel; ABD did, so I shouldn't be penalized. Just my opinion. I'm glad they're finally refunding people though. @WebmasterJohn is right that Disney (every unit) almost always gets to the right place, even if it takes a bit more time or nudging.

Well, to be fair, we have to remember that Disney made that offer back in mid-March when there were many of these Boards even that said an early May opening was almost certain; we've all developed better understandings of the situation as things evolve and we learn more. While I still think a June opening for certain parts of WDW (one park and/or DS and/or a few resorts) is very possible, I agree many (even those who booked those packages) won't have an appetite for it for a variety of reasons at that point (whether it be because they don't want to wear a mask, they don't want to go to only one park, they don't want to be in a spot with so many people, they don't have the financial means to go anymore, or whatever else).

Yes FWIW, I figured that’s what you meant. :) June 1st just seemed too soon and somewhat unknown. I agree.

This is again why I don’t understand why Pete is coming down so hard on ABD and DVC. ABD has currently canceled further out then any Disney brand. Is that not right? They canceled adventures in June in places in the US like Wyoming where they could have justified a “wait and see” attitude. DCL still has May cruises. Pete’s rant baffled me.
I also give Disney a little slack on DVC, frankly that’s the most likely one to end up in court.

Yea DVC is a disaster which is not going to end well.

Watched the cast last night. When Pete was going through the "Secure Circuit" list, he said he wanted to come back to the part about Epcot, but after the ABD discussion start it never happened. I would be curious to know what his thoughts are on the point about Epcot not opening if the other parks open before September.

I agree. What they should be on them for is allowing people to rebook starting June 1st. If the rumored measures are implemented a lot of people will have to rebook again.
Or it just might be the best evidence that all the million and one rumors floating around aren't true. I have no clue when they'll open but the free dining offer for those of us who were cancelled wasn't released until 3/28. By that time all I was reading were reports Disney might be closed for a very long time.

They may not be true but opening rebooking so soon or at all wasn't a good idea. Universal hasn't offered any booking dates yet and I am sure they were in the same boat with hotels booked.

Sorry for what may be a stupid question, but... if one has a temperature of 100.4 would one know that one was ill? Would one feel unwell? 🤒
I’m not a doctor, so I’d have to defer to one for the scientific answer. Anecdotally, I will say that I myself have had instances where I’ve had a temperature and hadn’t starting “feeling” sick until later. Not a dumb question btw; sorry if I couldn’t be of more help!

Uh...yikes. Calling people of one state idiots deserving of death is not a good look for a major representative of a travel agency.

i think I'm done with these podcasts until the crisis is over and Pete can stop using Covid19 as a means to soap box for his political views.
Perhaps you should listen again? He didn’t target any particular state. He expressed his frustrations at a group of people (protestors) who have demonstrated in many states. He named two states as an example (Michigan and Florida). At no point did he label all Michiganders or Floridians as “idiots.” He had very strong feelings about calls for an immediate full-scale reopening, as many do; there are immensely strong opinions on both sides of the debate. While I am not going to speak for him, it seemed like he was angry about some putting themselves and others in danger to declare a right that the Constitution doesn’t grant them by most conventional interpretations of it. You can disagree with that, that’s totally alright. The way I see it, this debate is not political or at least it shouldn’t be. I know people on both sides of that debate and their positions are not necessarily correlated with the expected political leanings.

What health marking or tattooing are the Japanese doing? Tattoos in Japan are frowned upon because they are related to organized crime there. So I have no idea what you are talking about.
Hi Tom: Did you watch the podcast? Pete mentioned it on there. I think it went something like this: People are checked out healthwise and give a stamp of (just an example) G3 and their stamp is checked at the gate/store/etc. If it is the one classified as no admittance due to health concerns (that they have), then they are denied service. I think I stated this poorly. Just watch the podcast. I have read of this elsewhere. Maybe that is the way they have to do it in their culture, I don't know, but I (and just me) think it wouldn't work in the US. Just my opinion.

They will have to do something here or there is a good chance we will be back where we started.

DisneyKevin, could you message me when you have an opportunity? I have a question that only a moderator can help with. Thank you

I know in China they are using a QR code system that indicates if your health is green, yellow, or red and access to places is based on your coding

No idea if that could work in the U.S. - people might push back on invation of privacy and having to share medical information. Also, how does one get their QR code? Would everyone have the same level of access to getting one?

I enjoyed the podcast and really am not interested in ABD but I would be selfish if I thought the entire podcast had to interest me every single week. Unrealistic. As far as Pete's rant about protesters... I agree with him 100%. But, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I'd rather stick to the discussion regarding the parks and resorts opening. I don't think it'll be as long January 2021. I think, as we all do, when the parks opening we are looking at masks, temp checks, limited capacity, limited attractions ... etc. That said, I don't think I would go unless there was some sort of discount, and not a shabby one. But, if I lived there and had an annual pass I would go for sure. The masks are going to be hot and in pain in the **** but again, it's just the way it is. I think the parks will open sometime between 6/1 and 7/1. and if there is a second wave in the fall/winter - we'll be back in the same situation again. I pray that doesn't happen. All that said, we all want Disney to re-open but we have to think about the consequences not only for ourselves but to others and especially those with compromised health issues. AND, lastly I'll say Pete can rant on whatever topic he wants. It's his show.

Wow, I must be reading the wrong threads. My general sense from the boards is everybody (or the most vocal) is convinced Disney can't possibly open this summer. So I find the podcasters' optimism refreshing. I wouldn't be shocked if we had to wait until 2021, but I don't want to resign myself to that thinking.
