WELCOME YOUNG FAMILY!!

I guess I spoke too soon, kileybeth. Last report I saw showed 25 inches at the airport in New Castle. If there were no snow, I could walk there from here.

Chili's going on the stove. Cornbread soon.

Well then! How did I miss you were in New Castle? The DH and I were both born and raised in New Castle. We moved back there for about 10 years (Penn Acres) but we now live down near the Canal.

Hello all,

Our first post just to say Hi. We are the Youngs....

Karl ....Dad
Amanda....Mum
Liberty ..... DD 4 Years
Amelie ...... DD 2 Years
Chesterfield UK

We'll be flying out to Orlando the day before our cruise, driving over to the cape and crashing the night in a Ramada ready to join the Magic on the Saturday morning.

This will be our first trip on DCL but our second TA. We did the Independance last April after 8 days in WDW. To say the kids are excited would be an understatement.
I'ts also our sixth cruise and our 13th trip across the pond (flying).

We'll also be stopping for a couple of days in Barcelona at the end of the cruise, although it's our second vist there.

We are really looking forward to getting to know you all. And maybe getting a little more knowledge of DCL. We won't be making loads of posts, looking after two kids takes up a lot of time, but we will be reading your posts.

Great to meet you all

The Youngs

Welcome! You are going to  DCL! and the Magic! Look forward to meeting you on the ship!

Our first post just to say Hi. We are the Youngs...

:welcome:

I agree ... once you :boat: Disney, you'll never go back to another cruise line!

Make sure you look at page 1 of this thread, for lots of helpful information. There is additional information posted in a link under AuntLynne's signature (on first page).

If you would like to be able to send PM's (private messages), you will need to have at least 10 public messages posted. The quickest way to get to 10 posts, is to make a few quick posts with just a little information in each. Feel free to make several posts with information like ...
- where you sailed previously
- which cruise line you sailed previously
- what are you looking forward to, the most
- where you are staying in Orlando (pre-cruise)
- where you are staying (post cruise)

I believe there are a few people from the UK on this thread.

Enjoy! See you soon!

I'm thinking about tea at Reids Palace in Madeira....that's about all the engergy I'll have to expend after six days lazing around on the ship. I've posted a question on cruise critic about the cost of a cab ride. Don't know what my more energetic cabin mates will be looking to do. :confused3 I'm picturing them doing the wicker 'toboggan' run! :scared1:

Jackie, would you be interested in going on a tour with the "taking it slow" group in Madeira? There are 3 of us wanting to go with www.danielmadeirataxis.com but we'd like at least one more to go with us. Email or pm me if you're interested.

We (DS and I) are also signed up for 9:30......and its a surpirse too! So. if you don't tell, I won't tell either!

We will be doing it in tandem.

Eleasa

Just signed up Karen (16) and me for the 11:30 parasailing (changed this from 9:30 when I originally posted it). Anyone else want to move their 9:30 times to 11:30 and make it an all-DISers sail? Maybe then it would take away some of the concern about tandem with strangers.

She really has been waiting to do the waverunners - for a while they were posting a minimum age of 18 to do single rider; now it is showing 16 years. The sign-up page lists all the times as available, but never any that have space for 2 single riders and I can't book her alone.

I'll keep my fingers crossed to get both waverunner and parasail in on one day. My sister will only let me take her on these activities at Castaway Cay.

Speaking of drinks ... does anyone know what is in the after dinner "shot" offered at Palo's? I know I said I would ask when I board the ship ... would love to know, to try to replicate for home use.

OK, I am not positive but it seemed to me like limoncello with a tiny scoop of lemon sorbet. If you try this out, let us know how it goes!

Linda - can you possibly email me (or pm) the itinerary and cost? I can share it w/ Jackie....we have a planning phone call set up for tomorrow morning :goodvibes I've had 2 knee surgeries so might be interested in this myself :thumbsup2

I just read great things about Daniel on cruise critic earlier today. :thumbsup2 Would you be willing to move up to their larger vehicle if three of us joined you? If you are and PM the info to Monica we can discuss it in our planning conference call tomorrow. Were you looking a one of their set itineraries, or 'customizing' it? Medeira is all new territory so it doesn't really matter to me.

---Okay ... is this for real? Is it r-e-a-l-l-y called a SNOWFALL? Do you know what it's made of? Looks like a Costco Smoothee.

Yes, it's really called a snowfall and Monica will have to tell you what's in it....I just know it's strawberry flavored and has chunks of granola. They also have it's mango flavored counterpart.

My favorite shipboard 'cruise' drink is a BBC...Baileys banana colada. Oh Yum!

Not sure specifically - another DISer (Nan) introduced me to these this past September. Very YUMMY!! It's basically a smoothie...strawberry & banana, raisons, granola, swig of mint on top...and yogurt. I believe that's it....but don't drink them all! :lmao:

here is the recipe from when I asked earlier on the main board:

Dh and I have been on three cruises and love that drink. I don't know what Palo calls it, but we found a recipe for Sgroppino that is just like it.

1 large scoop lemon sorbet
0.5 oz vodka (we keep it in the freezer)
0.25 oz Limoncello (lemon liqueur - kept in the freezer as well)
2 oz Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine - chilled in fridge)

Use a blender to mix together.

This makes a small amount, so multiply by how many drinks you want. DH doesn't even measure anymore. Just pours. Experiment a little. It may take more sorbet to get the thickness you want, more or less vodka/prosecco, etc. Different brands of sorbet can have different intensities/pucker powers. Find your favorite. The local liquor store also carries Orangecello. Haven't tried that with orange sorbet, but I'm sure it would be just as good. Our friends have been on 9 cruises and got us hooked on DCL. We have dinners at their house and make a whole blender full. YUM!! Memories of Palo.

I would definately get a bigger van! More is always better! As long as you don't mind slow. I am pretty broken... I don't know anything about Madeira so anything we see would be great. I had asked if they would drop us off at the flower festival and they will. But I don't think I could walk back to the ship.

That snowfall sounds great! I'm going to have to try it. Where do we find one? My favorite cruise drink is a Passion Margarita. Can't wait! That's the first drink I'm going to have - right after the sailaway one! :thumbsup2

Kileybeth, I'm glad you guys are safe and warm! Sorry about your beautiful bush. I hope it bounces back in more ways than one! :thumbsup2

I've got a total of 5 people so far interested in a Palo Brunch (second group. First group is full). Any other takers? We need 12 - 14 to request the private room. PM me if interested.

9 WEEKS!!!!!!

Welcome all newcomers! It's great to have more people join us!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

As part of what I am making for my FE gift, I need to know if there are any solo guys traveling with us. If you are a solo guy, are you in a cabin by yourself or traveling with family? It makes a difference in part of what I'm making.

I told you it was a strange question.

Kristi

My 2 cents on parasailing.....Kathe & I did it together on the WBPC (meaning same boat, but parasailed solo not tandem :)).....I'm scared of heights & can get motion sickness watching a movie on tv....but...I LOVED IT!! It was so cool!! I couldn't look down once at the top (had to look side to side) but am so glad I did this. Highly recommend it :thumbsup2

Yes, it was great :thumbsup2 I was just plain scared until I went up!!! But I loved it, only reason I'm not repeating the experience is because I need to save the $$$ for the excursions at the new ports this cruise.

Lynne,

My group of four for 11:30 is now a group of 6. Me, dh, dd18, dd15, dd13 and dd8. Dd8 will have to tandem with me or dh and maybe dd13 too. How much do you think they have to weigh to go solo if it's windy lol? Dd18 and Dd15 will not want to go tandem unless they are forced into it.

We also couldn't get any waverunner times that worked so will skip it but my girls are really looking forward to Segway in Barcelona.

THIS sounds yummy. Where do I get it?

Kristi

Any bar on the ship!

One cruise five of us went straight to Signals after getting on the ship and ordered them. The bartender didn't have any bananas yet so he put in a call to get some, in the meantime one of us ran to topsiders and grabbed a bunch. He had all five blended by the time his bananas were delivered. The bartender said, you girls must have been really thirsty!
:lmao:

I'd be interested in a Palo brunch.

Yeah! MORE PALO BRUNCH PEOPLE! Don't be shy, we love meeting new people and sharing wonderful Palo treats! AND we'll probably be visited by Handsome Daniel! That in itself is worth the price of admission.
